After Installation Does Not See The Printer

Windows does not see the second hard drive

If after reinstalling Windows 7 or 8.1, or after updating them to Windows 10, your computer does not see the second hard drive or the second logical partition on the drive (drive D, conditionally), in this manual you will find two SIMple solutions to the problem, as well as a guide to its elimination. Also, the described methods should help if you installed a second hard drive or SSD, it is visible in BIOS (UEFI), but not visible in Windows Explorer.

If the second hard drive is NOT shown in the BIOS, but this happened after some action inside the computer or just after installing the second hard drive, then I recommend first of all to check if all the connections are correct: How to connect a hard drive to a computer or laptop.

Below is a small guide, where all the steps that allow you to add a second disk to the system (enable it in the explorer), Described above are shown graphically and with some additional explanations.

How to “enable” a second hard drive or SSD in Windows

All we need to fix the problem with the disk, which is NOT visible, is the built-in Disk Management utility, which is present in Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10.

To start it, press the Windows R keys on the keyboard (where Windows is the key with the corresponding logo), and in the Run window that appears, type diskmgmt.Msc and then press Enter.

After a short initialization, the Disk Management window will open. In it, you should pay attention to the following things at the bottom of the window: are there disks there, the information about which contains the following information.

  • “There is no data. NOT initialized “(in case your physical HDD or SSD is not visible).
  • Are there areas on the hard disk in which it says “Not allocated” (in case you cannot see a partition on one physical disk).
  • If there is neither one nor the other, and instead you see a RAW partition (on a physical disk or a logical partition), as well as an NTFS or FAT32 partition, which is NOT displayed in Explorer and does not have a drive letter. just right-click on it on such a partition and select either “Format” (for RAW) or “Assign a drive letter” (for an already formatted partition). If there was data on the disk, see How to recover a RAW disk.

In the first case, right-click on the disk name and select the “initialize disk” menu item. In the window that appears after this, you must select the partition structure. GPT (GUID) or MBR (in Windows 7, this choice may NOT appear).

After Installation Does Not See The Printer

I recommend using MBR for Windows 7 and GPT for Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 (assuming they are installed on a modern computer). If not sure, choose MBR.

When the disk is initialized, you will get an “Not Allocated” area on it. ie. The second of the two cases described above.

The next step for the first case and the only one for the second. will name the unallocated area with the right mouse button, select the “Create SIMple volume” menu item.

After that, all that remains is to follow the instructions of the volume creation wizard: assign a letter, select a file system (if in doubt, then NTFS) and size.

As for the size. by default, a new disk or partition will take up all the free space. If you need to create several partitions on one disk, specify the size manually (less than the available free space), and then do the same with the remaining NOT allocated space.

Upon completion of all THESE actions, the second disk will appear in Windows Explorer and will be usable.

Making the second disk visible using the command line

Note: The following command line method to fix the missing second disk is for informational purposes only. If the above methods did not help you, and you do not understand the essence of the commands below, it is better not to use them.

Also note that the above steps without changes are applicable for basic (not dynamic or RAID disks) without extended partitions.

Run Command Timeline as administrator, then enter the following commands in order:

Remember the number of the disk, which is NOT visible, or the number of the disk (hereinafter. N), the partition on which is NOT displayed in the explorer. Enter the command select disk N and press Enter.

In the first case, when the second physical disk is NOT visible, Use the following commands (attention: data will be deleted. If the disk is no longer displayed, but there was data on it, and do not do the described, it may be enough just to assign a drive letter or use programs to recover lost sections):

  • Clean (Cleans the disk. Data will be lost.)
  • Create partition primary (here you can also set the size = S parameter, set the size of the partition in megabytes if you need to make several partitions).
  • Format fs = ntfs quick
  • Assign letter = D (assigns letter D).
  • Exit

In the second case (there is an unallocated area on one hard disk that is not visible in the explorer), we use all the same commands, with the exception of clean (disk cleaning), as a result, the partition creation operation will be performed exactly on the unallocated space of the selected physical disk.

Note: in the methods using the command line, I described only two basic, most probable options, however, others are also possible, so do the described only if you understand and are confident in your actions, and also took care of the safety of the data. You can read more about working with partitions using Diskpart on the official Microsoft page Creating a partition or logical disk.

Diagnosing Microsoft Printer Problems

First of all, you can try to automatically solve problems with the printer, using the diagnostic utility in the Windows 10 control panel or downloaded it from the official Microsoft website (note that I don’t know for sure if the result will differ, but as far as I could understand, both options are equivalent).

To start from the control panel, go into it, then open the “Troubleshoot” item, then in the “Hardware and Sound” section, select the “Using the printer” item (another way is “go to devices and printers”, and then, by clicking on need a printer, if it is in the list, select “Troubleshoot”). Also, to run the printer troubleshooter, you can download the file from the official Microsoft website here.

As a result, a diagnostic utility will be launched, which automatically checks for all typical problems that may interfere with the correct operation of your printer and, if such problems are found, will fix them.

Among other things, it will be checked: the presence of drivers and driver errors, the operation of the necessary services, problems with the connection with the printer and the print queue. Despite the fact that it is impossible to guarantee a positive result here, I recommend trying this method in the first place.

What to do if the printer does not work in Windows 10?

After the Windows 10 Noyabrsk update, many users had problems with printing devices. The network printer does not work, and does not print pages, or the PC SIMply does not see the device. If you are facing a SIMilar issue on Windows 10 then you should check out some of the guidelines.

Windows 10 developer support guidelines.

You can also read the information of developers on the Internet in the functioning of their printers in Windows 10.

For example, HP claims that most of their devices shouldn’t have problems. For devices that worked properly before the Windows 10 update, the driver does not need to be updated. But if you still have a problem, you can download a suitable program from Printeros.RU or from the manufacturer’s official website. It also contains information on how to troubleshoot problems when the computer does NOT find the printer.

Printer manufacturer Epson also supports users. The company’s website contains all the necessary drivers and you can download them at any time.

Canon’s printer makers, like HP, say most printers will run on the new operating system without issue. Drivers can also be downloaded from their official resource.

After installing the drivers, problems should not arise. But if none of the above helped you, you can look for a solution to the problem for a specific device model. Maybe someone had SIMilar problems and shared their solution on the forums. There are also English-language sites, but this requires knowledge of English.

How to install drivers manually.

If after installing Windows 10 the printer does not work and the above options to solve this problem did NOT help, then you should do everything manually. You need to download and install the printer drivers yourself. To do this, go to the drivers section or the device manufacturer’s website and select a driver for your model. It must be downloaded for Windows 10.

After identifying problems with Windows 10, users have already published printer drivers from many manufacturers, and therefore it will NOT be difficult to find them on the Internet.

If you could not find a suitable driver for Windows 10, then download it for Windows 7 or 8.

It is better to uninstall the old one before installing the new driver, otherwise some errors may occur. To do this, go to “Options”, then “Devices”. Remove the printer by clicking on the right mouse button and selecting “Remove device”.

Windows 10 stopped seeing the printer. Solution

For most Windows users, after updating the operating system to Windows 10, the problem of detecting a printer or MFP connected to a PC occurs. The computer SIMply does not see it. Let’s face this problem.

Printer manufacturers and Windows 10 support

Many printer manufacturers are already working on support for Windows 10. So it’s worth highlighting a few highlights:

  • HP (Hewlett-Packard) already has a number of drivers for its printing devices. You can download them from the official website of the company.
  • Epson promises support for MFPs in Windows 10. The required drivers for some models can be downloaded from the link
  • Canon also keeps up with the leaders. Drivers for most models are already available on the official website of the manufacturer
  • The equally popular Panasonic printers, unfortunately, will only receive support in the next 2016. Therefore, you can configure the printer under Windows 10 by downloading and installing drivers in compatibility mode.
  • Xerox Management Confirms No OS Compatibility Issues with Printing Devices.

Also, if a Windows 10 computer does not see the printer after a clean installation or update, and the drivers are up-to-date, the system developers recommend downloading a utility on the device manufacturer’s website to solve the problem. For example, in HP it is the HP Aio Printer Remote program. After installing it, the connection problem should disappear.

Search for problems

You can start searching for problems using the system utility. It may also try to fix the problem automatically.

Right-click on the “Start” icon and select “Control Panel”.

In the Hardware and Sound section, select Printer Usage.

In the new window Click “Next”.

Wait for the scan to finish.

After searching for errors, the utility will provide you with a report and solutions to the problem.

The standard troubleshooter will in most cases solve basic problems and some crashes.

Inspection of the USB port and connecting cable.

To begin with, just in case, we need to check the health of the USB port (suddenly you accidentally pulled the cord and it went wrong) You also need to check if the wire is plugged into the device, as it may be disconnected from the PC.

You should also inspect the printer itself: is it turned on, has ink in it, etc. If any of this happens, then Fix the problem and check the connection of the device to the computer again.

If everything is in order, then let’s move on to troubleshooting the Windows 10 operating system itself.

What to do when none of the suggested options worked?

There are also cases when the device does not print after all the manipulations performed. Why doesn’t it work?

If you are reading this, then most likely the Windows 10 operating system will not be able to accept your printer. If in any doubt, consult experienced professionals for advice.

You may NOT be able to find the correct drivers for your device. And if you DO NOT want to buy a new printer, then you just have to return the previous OS. Look on the Internet for how to do this.

Ways to Activate Printer Display

Most modern printers when connected to a computer should be visible by Windows 7 by default, but there are exceptions caused by the following factors:

  • Damage to the printer;
  • Damaged connector or cable;
  • Incorrect network configuration;
  • Lack of up-to-date drivers for this printing device in the system;
  • USB device visibility problems;
  • Incorrect settings in Windows 7.

First of all, you need to make sure that the printer itself is in good working order, all the PC connectors to which it is connected are intact, and there is no physical damage to the cable (with a wired connection). If a LAN connection is used for printing, you must also check that it is configured correctly.

When using a USB connection, you need to check if the computer sees other devices connected through this connector. If they are also NOT displayed, this is already a separate problem, the solution to which is described in our other lessons.

In the same material, we focus on setting up the system itself and installing the correct drivers to solve the problem with the visibility of the printer. Specific solutions are described below.

Installing drivers

The problem with the visibility of the printer may arise due to the fact that the Corresponding drivers are either absent altogether, or their instance is not installed correctly. Then you need to install the current driver.

Click “Start” and go to “Control Panel”.

Click “Device Manager” in the “System” block.

If you DO NOT see equipment for printing among the list of device types, try SIMple manipulations: Click the “Action” menu item and select “Update configuration.” from the list that opens.

Search for devices.

Perhaps, after that, a group of equipment for printing will be displayed in the “Device Manager”, and the printer will become visible and available for performing tasks.

If this group is initially present in the “Task Manager” or its appearance did not bring a solution to the problem described in this article, you should proceed as described below. Click on the name of this group. Most often it is called “Imaging Devices”.

If you DO NOT find a separate target group in the list, open the “Other devices” section. Equipment with incorrect drivers is often placed there.

After opening a device group Click on the name of the printer itself located in it.

Next, go to the “Driver” section, which is located in the printer properties window.

Pay attention to the name of the driver vendor, its version and release date.

Next, go to the developer’s site for the printer and check this data against the information about the current drivers for your model. As a rule, it is located in the software section of the manufacturer’s web resource. If this data does NOT coincide with the topics that are displayed in the printer properties window, you need to reinstall the corresponding item. To do this, download the latest version of the driver to your computer from the developer’s official website, but do not rush to install it, since you first need to uninstall the previous copy. Next Click the “Delete” button in the printer properties window.

READ  How To Photocopy A Document On A Printer

After that Confirm your actions by clicking in the “OK” dialog box.

Now run the installer of the current driver, previously downloaded from the official site. Follow the recommendations that will be displayed in the installer window. After the installation is complete, restart your computer and check if it sees the printer.

Some users cannot find the official website of the printer manufacturer for various reasons. There is also a possibility that it has ceased to be supported by the developer altogether. Then it makes sense to search for drivers by hardware ID.

As a last resort, you can try to use a special program to find and install drivers. It will find the current copy and install it automatically. But this option is still not as preferable as manual installation, since it does not provide such a high level of guarantee of the correctness of the procedure.

Solving Printer Visibility Problems on Windows 7 Computers

After connecting the printer to a computer, users may face a situation that their PC SIMply does not see it and does NOT display it in the list of available devices. Naturally, in this state of affairs, there can be no question of using a device for printing documents for the intended purpose. Let’s see how to solve this problem in Windows 7.

Activating Print Service

The reason that the computer does not see the printer may be the deactivation of the print service. Then you should turn it on.

In the “Control Panel” in the “System and Security” section, navigate to the “Administration”.

In the list of utilities find the name of the snap-in “Services” and click on it.

A list of all system services will open. In order not to get lost in it, Click on the name of the “Name” column. This way you build the list in alphabetical order. Now it will be easier for you to find the “Print Manager” item in it. When you find it, notice the value in the Status column. If it says “Running”, then the service is running. If it is empty, it is stopped. In the latter case, it is required to start it so that the system can see the printer.

Click on the name of the “Print Manager” service.

In the properties window that opens, select “Automatic” from the “Startup type” drop-down list. Then click “Apply” and “OK”.

Now, returning to the main window “Service Manager”, select the name “Print Manager” and on the left side of the interface Click on the item “Start.”.

The activation procedure will be performed.

After its completion, “Print Manager” will start. In the “Status” field opposite it will be the value “Running”, and your computer will now see the connected printers.

There are quite a few factors as to why the computer cannot see the printer. But if the reason lies not in physical hardware breakdown or incorrect network settings, most likely the problem can be solved by reinstalling the drivers or activating the appropriate system service.

Solving the problem with displaying the printer in Windows 10

First, make sure that the cause of the problem is not a physical breakdown. Check the integrity of the USB cable, ports.

  • Try plugging the cable into a different port on your computer.
  • Make sure the cable is firmly plugged into the printer and PC.
  • If everything is physically correct, most likely a failure has occurred.

If this is your first time connecting a device, then there is a possibility that it is not supported at all or the necessary drivers are missing from the system.

Solving the problem with displaying the printer in Windows 10

After installing updates for the Windows 10 operating system, users may find that the system cannot see the printer. Mostly the causes of this problem can be a system or driver failure.

Adding a printer

You can do otherwise and try adding the printer yourself. Usually the system automatically downloads the necessary components for the device from the official website.

Open the Start Menu and select Settings.

Now go to “device”.

In the first section Click on “Add Printer or Scanner”.

  • The system may find the device itself. If this did not happen, click on the item “Required printer.”.
  • Check “Select a shared printer by name” or your preferred option.
  • Enter the device name and click “Next”.
  • If after THESE manipulations the printer still does not connect, try installing the drivers manually. Just go to the manufacturer’s website and find the drivers for your printer model in the appropriate section. Download and install them.
