How to change ink in a Canon printer

Instructions for refilling cartridges for the Canon PIXMA-MP280 printer

change, Canon, printer

Canon PIXMA-MP280 belongs to the budget class of the printer and MFP, with built-in printheads (hereinafter PG) in the cartridge. When users purchase printing devices at a relatively low price, after using up ink, they learn about the cost of new consumables and think about how to save on printing. One of the ways not to waste extra money is refilling Canon MP280 cartridges at home.

The printer contains two ink cartridges, Canon PG-510 and CL-511 black and color ink cartridges. Using their example, we will show you how to refuel the Canon PIXMA-MP280 printer yourself. For a successful refueling result, you need to make sure that the cartridges are working properly. The most common problems are a dry print head or an electronics failure. In the first case, it is necessary to clean the steam generator with a special flushing liquid, and in the second case, you need to buy a new one.
Refilling a Canon MP280 cartridge with your own hands is not a difficult process, below we will show how this can be done. In a black cartridge, insert the needle through a single hole. In the color position of the colors in the cartridge you can see below, just as if you make a print on a sheet, then the color in the middle of the print is always at the top, and the colors on the left and right of the print are respectively of the print. (Figure 2)

  • We start refueling Canon MP280 cartridges, we collect paint in the syringes, it is better to take 4 syringes and fill them with ink (Black, Magenta, Yellow, Cyan), you can use insulin 1 ml. or, as in our case, 10-20 ml. syringes.
  • Carefully remove the stickers from the top, if you have not done so before.
  • If you use insulin syringes, the needle can go into the factory hole for refueling, if you use others, then a 4-mm needle is needed. drill or utility knife to widen the hole.
  • We insert the needle of the syringe into the filling hole. It is not necessary to enter deeply, 10-15 mm is enough. (Figure 3)
  • Inject ink slowly until ink appears in the filling port, approximately 9 ml is needed. for black and 12 ml. (4 ml. in each color) for color, then pump the excess ink back into the syringe, it is always better not to add ink than to pour it over.
  • We fill in all colors and clean the surface of ink with a dry napkin.
  • Stick the labels in place (If necessary, it is possible to use an adhesive tape).
  • We make an imprint of the printheads on the sheet, they should be clear.
  • We install the refilled cartridges in the printer, we do the cleaning of the steam generator.
  • Pay attention to the contacts (Figure 4), they must be dry, if you install consumables with wet contacts in the printer, your electronics will burn out.
  • If you are refueling for the first time, then you need to cancel the tracking of consumables, to do this, press and hold the Cancel button (Red X or Triangle) on the printer for 15 seconds. After canceling tracking, your printing device will signal that the ink has run out, but it will print.

How to change ink in a Canon printer

Canon is one of the most renowned printer companies. Among all the models, there are several series and modifications, so any user will find the ideal option for their needs. Each owner of such a device is faced with the need to replace the cartridge, which is associated with the end of ink or breakdown. Today we would like to describe this procedure step by step, telling about all the subtleties and nuances.

cartridges

Which cartridges are right for your product? See the Canon website at http://www.Canon.com/printers/inkjet/ink-cartridge-finder/. on the website of your device or in the user manual. And who is better to buy them from, you can find out on the company’s website http://www.Canon.ru/where_to_buy/for_home/.

And remember that only genuine products and consumables will provide the most reliable device performance and the best print quality.

How to start the printer after refueling

After refilling ink cans with ink, there are often situations where the printer shows that the cartridge is empty, when in fact we just refilled it. The fact is that the fingerprint counter was triggered. It is embedded in a special chip or is located inside the printer system.

Initially, it is assumed that the cartridge can print a certain number of sheets at one refueling. A portion of the dye is allocated to each sheet. And in the counter, a decrease in paint is noted. Even when we added dye, the counter does not automatically increase.

Note that disabling ink control will void the product warranty. Therefore, consider this point before performing the steps described below.

For Canon Pixma devices, you can reset the counter by pressing and holding the Stop or Cancel button for 5–20 seconds, depending on the model. This process is also called “reboot printer”. After the procedure, turn off and then turn on the printing device.

Canon Cartridge Color Arrangement

For a black (black) cartridge, this is practically irrelevant. Only black paint goes inside, and the hole is in the center of the case under the sticker. For color, the location of the shades is a big issue. If you confuse and pour the wrong paint into the desired compartment, then you can simply ruin the cartridge.

  • At the top is red (magenta).
  • Bottom left. blue (cyan).
  • Bottom right. yellow.

Changing cartridges in Canon printers

Canon has two types of printers in its product list. inkjet and laser. As you know, they differ not only in their implementation of paint application and printing procedure, but also in the type of cartridges and inks used. For example, laser equipment supports printing only in black, and the ink itself is powder. At the same time, inkjet devices print in different colors and contain several cartridges with liquid ink inside. However, the replacement procedure is almost identical, this will be discussed further.

4How to care
behind the printing
head

So, you have settled your PIXMA in the most convenient place in the house, you regularly change cartridges and use only branded inks, you print a lot on it and you won’t get enough of it. But one day this idyll can be broken. Suddenly, you will notice thin white horizontal streaks or irregularities in some colors on your prints. Do not be alarmed. some of the print head nozzles may be clogged. To test whether this is the case or not, print a special test page that contains print samples for each ink color. This simple test not only confirms the blockage, but also helps you see which ink colors are causing problems.

This procedure is provided both in the printer driver on the PC and in the menu of the device itself. you will find it in the “Maintenance” section. If the check page confirms that any nozzles are clogged, your next step is to clean the printhead.

Is it difficult? Not at all. Cleaning is started from the computer or from the menu of the printer itself and takes about one minute. Cleaning the print head nozzles uses a small amount of ink of the color that clogs the nozzles. They dissolve and flush out dried dye residues. It all looks like a print, so do not forget to insert a draft A4 sheet of paper into the tray.

And after the procedure, do another verification test. If there are gaps in color and thin white lines on the samples, repeat the cleaning of the nozzles. Usually two times is enough. But if this does not help, there is also a deep cleaning of the print head. Of course, more ink will be needed here than with the usual.

Sometimes print quality deteriorates not only because the print head is dirty, but also because it has moved. For example, this can happen after replacing cartridges. Most likely, you will see shifts of straight lines, pictures or letters on the printouts.

In this case, there is only one solution. to align the printhead. To do this, insert one sheet of A4 office paper into the tray and run “Automatic Head Alignment” in the “Maintenance” menu item. The printer then prints a page with special head alignment patterns. What’s next?

Alignment can be done “manually”. To do this, use the PC driver or the built-in menu to tell the device the numbers of the highest quality samples. Based on this information, the printer will correct the head position. To improve the tuning, such a cycle can be repeated.

Many multifunctional devices have a semi-automatic head alignment procedure. All you need to do is print a sample page and scan it, and the MFP will complete the print head alignment by itself. But the most advanced PIXMA devices are able to read information from the page right at the time of printing. Miracles, and only.

Take care of your PIXMA and your collaboration will be long and fruitful.

Refilling Canon cartridges is quite within the power of the user himself, even if he does not have the relevant experience or skills. Refilling a color or black “consumable” of an inkjet printer is not so difficult if you know how to do it correctly, how much ink you need, have a color scheme in the cartridge case.

From this manual, you will learn what you will need to carry out the procedure, the features and nuances of the process itself, what actions should be performed after installing the consumables in the printer. Separately, we will consider the possibility of changing the type of ink used for Canon inkjet printing devices.

1Where to place
a printer

Gone are the days of bulky home printers. Canon designers have long understood that every person wants a printer to be not only functional, but also beautiful. Relatively small size, streamlined shape, prominent buttons and versatile body color. all these are the characteristics of the Canon PIXMA family. Definitely, they will decorate any interior.

If you plan to use your printer frequently, we recommend placing it in a spacious area within arm’s reach. It is best not to place it on a bookshelf or in a cramped niche. space will be needed for the cables and the paper feed tray. Typically, the power and USB cables connect to the rear of PIXMA printers, and it is best not to bend the cables too much. you do not want to cause damage, short circuits or even fire.?

In addition, heavy photo paper, and on some models plain office paper, is loaded into the printer through the rear vertical tray. So you will need free space above the printer. How many? About A4 sheet. This also applies to MFPs. after all, you have to open the lid to scan and copy.

Please do not place your printer on the aisle, on the edge of the table or in any other dangerous places where it is easy to touch the wires or trays connected to it, or even the device itself.

Heat from sunlight or heaters, strong electromagnetic fields, vibration and shock will not be useful for the printer. Also, do not leave it outdoors. extremely high or low temperatures, precipitation and direct sunlight will definitely not benefit the printer.

We believe that by following these simple rules of technical feng shui, finding the coziest and most comfortable place in the room for your PIXMA will not be difficult.

How to change ink in a Canon printer

There is enough ink or toner to print a certain number of pages, and then every printer owner is faced with the need to change or refill the cartridge. Therefore, you need to know how to change cartridges in a Canon printer. And although the design of different models of printing equipment differs from each other, individual units have much in common.

Drum cartridge

The unit is also called a copy cartridge. Although its resource is 7,000 pages, repair or replacement will still be required. When removing it, it is important not to touch the drum unit and contacts to avoid damaging them. Store the drum cartridge only in opaque packaging and should not be exposed to direct sunlight or strong light. To get the block, you need to sequentially do the following operations:

  • close the sub tray and open the printer cover;
  • remove the top of the multi-purpose tray and remove the paper;
  • open the front cover;
  • lift the levers on both sides to unlock;
  • pull out the drum cartridge by the handle.

Laser Color Printers

The location and design of the cartridges depends on the technology used in the particular device. For example, the Canon i-SENSYS LBP7110Cw printer uses a single-pass printing method and includes four separate print engines. The cartridges are located one after the other in a special tray. Their replacement is carried out as follows:

  • pull towards you and lower the cover on the front wall of the device;
  • pull the block out by the handle;
  • get out the cartridge that needs refilling;
  • install full.

Important: do not leave the cover open in the printer, remember that the drum unit may light up.

Monochrome Laser Printers

Probably the easiest way is to get a monochrome laser cartridge, it does not even require a network connection. The main thing here is to get to the very detail. For printers with a paper tray at the bottom, lift up the top cover (often made of translucent plastic) that receives the printed pages. Then open the second one that covers the internal mechanism of the device. This lid has a small notch (it can be located either on the left or on the right), under which your fingertips can easily be slipped.

Some Canon printer models, such as the LBP810, load paper from the top. In such a printer, the cartridge is usually placed behind a cover located on the front of the housing. It is necessary to pull it towards you and fold it down. The path is now clear and the cartridge can be easily pulled out by the handle.

It is also easy to return the part back, but if something does not work out, you should never use force. A bias is possible, and in order to avoid breakage, it is better to make a second attempt. When the cartridge is brought straight to the guides, it practically falls into its intended place. The final stage: press until a characteristic click, so that the contacts are in place.

2How to replace
cartridges

Canon PIXMA inkjet printers and MFPs use liquid ink for printing, which, horribly, periodically runs out. To replenish the stock, in most models it is necessary to replace special ink containers. cartridges, and in some (PIXMA G series). to top up branded ink into the containers built right into the body. It is very easy to find out when ink is low. the printer itself will tell you about it. Of course, not by voice, but by a special message on the computer screen or the device itself.

How do you know how much ink is left? The software on your computer or the on-screen menu on the built-in screen, and for some models, the Canon Print Inkjet / SELPHY mobile app will help you with this. In addition, you can open the cover or lift the scanning unit of the device and look at the printhead with the cartridges inserted into it. On those that are low on ink, the red light will flash slowly at intervals of about 3 seconds.

When the ink is completely empty, you will see a message stating that printing is no longer possible, and the red indicator at the end of the empty ink tank will flash at 1 second intervals.

Replacing cartridges is quite simple. First, you need to move the printhead to a special service position on the carriage. How to do it? On some PIXMA models, you will need to send the command via the PC software or OSD. In other models, just lift the top cover or scanning module and lock them in a slightly open position.

After that, the print head will automatically move to a certain position and stop. the magic of automation.

How do you know which cartridge needs to be replaced? If in PIXMA printers, two cartridges are used. black and color. then the one you need is easy to recognize by marking.

In models where separate cartridges are used, the same fast blinking red light will help to find an empty one.

It is better to prepare a new cartridge in advance. To do this, simply unpack it according to the instructions and put it somewhere nearby. Then press the release lever on the empty cartridge and pull it up and toward you. a couple of light strokes, and the old cartridge is already in your hands. Now place a new cartridge on the vacant place and press it down with your finger, until it clicks. If the cartridge is functional and full, then a red light will light up on it.

If the light is off or blinking rapidly, it means the following: either the cartridge is defective, the function for detecting the remaining ink level is disabled, or the cartridge is not installed correctly. Take it out and reinsert it.

You may face a situation where the ink has run out not in one, but in several cartridges at once. When replacing, do not remove all of them at once, otherwise confusion may result. Well, if that happens, it doesn’t matter. Bright color markings on the cartridge and on the printhead will help you know where which belongs.

By the way, in the models of the PIXMA G series, the ink level is visible to the naked eye. right on the front of the case through transparent Windows. And ink is added in three movements. open the printer lid, open the lid of the built-in ink tank and fill the container. No manipulation of the print head is required here.

This video tutorial will help you fill in the ink correctly.

Well, the ink supply has been replenished, now you can close the lid. Just a few minutes for preparatory actions. the printer will do them itself. and you can continue working.

Inkjet printing technology

Here you cannot do without turning on the device, since the cartridges are located in the parking area and are not available for removal. After pressing the ON button, you need to wait until the printer is ready for operation (indicator is on) and open the cover. The carriage moves to the cartridge replacement position.

It should be noted that Canon’s instruction manuals do not recommend turning off the printer. over, on the first pages of the user manual there is a warning that the power cord must not be disconnected while the power indicator is on or flashing. However, if you press the ON button now, the carriage will move back to the parking area. The only way to disconnect power from the printer is to unplug the power cord.

Cartridges may have latches that you need to push. Or the carriage has covers that must be lifted to replace the cartridge, just like the Canon PIXMA iP2700. If there is no lever, just pull the cartridge towards you and remove it from the slot. Reinstallation is carried out in the reverse order:

There is enough ink or toner to print a certain number of pages, and then every printer owner is faced with the need to change or refill the cartridge. Therefore, you need to know how to change cartridges in a Canon printer. And although the design of different models of printing equipment differs from each other, individual units have much in common.

How to pump CISS in Canon and Epson printers. How to remove air from CISS. Rules for using CISS

An eternal problem for owners of inkjet printers with CISS is air in the tubes. have not used the printer for a long time or have not refilled the system with ink on time. Often, these are Epson and Canon, tk. It is on printers of these manufacturers that users most often install the Continuous Ink Supply System for economical and hassle-free printing. But this printing does not always become such, if it is careless and not caring about this device, then printer repair is inevitable.!

General rules for using a printer with CISS

The first and most important thing is that CISS containers with ink, they are donors, should stand on the same plane with the printer (there are rare exceptions, but this is a separate conversation), i.e. if the printer is on the table, then donors should also be there. Under no circumstances should the user lift the ink containers higher as this threatens with ink leakage into the inside of the printer.

Often, containers are placed on the printer during transportation of the device, wiping dust from the table, and then they forget to return to their place, and the most common case is when they see air gaps in the ink plume and try to drive them into the cartridges, raising the donors up.

Dear friends, do not do this if you do not have extra money or extra time to repair the printer.

Refill on time with CISS ink. As I wrote above, very often they forget to refuel or put it off for later and forget again. Try to refill CISS donors when the ink level has reached about 1.5 cm from the bottom of the containers. It is not necessary to fill up to the eyeballs, it is advisable not to add about 1 cm to the top, so that the ink does not flow from all the slots of the donors and they remain clean.

The donors of CISS should be clean and without a layer of dust. Please keep an eye on the purity of the CISS, as. dirt can get into your ink, then into the print head, resulting in poor print quality, and subsequently a print head replacement. Dirt enters the air holes of the donors, thereby preventing air from entering the donors and the release of ink into the cartridges. If during refilling with ink, you accidentally spill it on the CISS, do not be too lazy to immediately wipe off the leaked ink, without leaving it for later.

Make sure that the ink train is not bent, squeezed along its entire length. I often meet printers with not very neatly installed CISS, namely, not always reasonably laid ink trains. This is very important because correct operation of the printer and stable supply of ink to the print head depend on a correctly laid cable. Correctly laid and securely attached ink ribbon will not interfere with the movement of the carriage with cartridges, thereby causing various errors in the operation of the printer. The ink ribbon should not be pinched, for example, by the scanner unit of the printer, because because of this, ink will not flow and, accordingly, the printer will not give you high-quality printing.

Clean air filters. I highlight this as a separate item, because users do not care when the air filter is painted in the color of ink, but in vain!

The direct purpose of the CISS air filter is to prevent dust from entering the inside of the donors and, in the event of a donor coup, not to allow ink to flow through the air holes of the donors.

The air filter painted in the color of the ink sometimes does not allow air to pass through and, accordingly, for this reason, the color that protects this filter will stop printing. Therefore, either wash the filters with running water, or it is better to change.

It seems that everything with regards to the rules for using the CISS, if you missed something, or wrote it incorrectly, tell me in the comments to the article.

The most important rule that I have learned for myself is that fresh ink must be refilled in the printer, regardless of the manufacturer.!

What does fresh ink mean, this is ink that is up to about 6 months from the moment of refilling it in the CISS or from the moment the container containing this ink is opened. It is advisable to spend the ink filled in the CISS in 8 months, tk. by the year there will most likely be problems with print quality.

Do not refill printers with old ink, the printer can and will print, but due to old ink, there is a constant loss of colors, complete or partial, and as a result, the number of head cleaning increases, as a result an overfilled diaper. Not the best color reproduction due to old ink.

When is it worth pumping the CISS, and when it is not worth doing it

CISS should be pumped in the following cases:

Part of the color or one of the colors is missing during printing. Perhaps there is little ink left in the cartridge (s) and there is a shortage of ink during printing, as a result of which part of the color or one of the colors, or several, disappears.

Does not print one or more colors. Cartridge or capsule is completely out of ink.

The ink plume is filled with air for a third or more of its length. In this case, it would still not be bad to check the system for leaks.

You should not pump the CISS in the following cases:

When you saw air gaps up to 5cm in the ink trail. This may be due to raising and lowering the ink tanks.

How to pump ink into CISS of Epson printer

The usual cartridge CISS of Epson printers can be pumped in two ways:

It is necessary to insert a medical syringe into this hole, tilt it at an angle of about 60-70 degrees (see photo 2), pull the syringe plunger towards you and remove the syringe from the cartridge at the moment the syringe starts filling with ink. This will fill the ink loop and the CISS cartridge with ink. Follow the procedure with each of the cartridges.

The air / filling hole in CISS cartridges is always closed with a sealed plug. Having pulled out this plug, it is necessary to insert the syringe tightly into the hole and pull the syringe plunger until the syringe is filled with ink, then close the hole back with a plug.

Attention! Very often, users make a serious mistake by punching the plug that closes the air / filling hole with a syringe needle (see photo 4), thereby breaking the tightness of the CISS. As a result, the ink in the cartridge eventually runs out of ink, and the ink escapes from the ink plume back to the CISS donors.

How to pump ink into a Canon CISS printer

If with Epson printers everything is already clear in principle: a separate print head and separately cartridges, then with Canon printers everything is a little more complicated. Canon printers have models where the print head is located directly on the cartridges (see photo 5), and there are models in which like Epson printers: separate cartridges, separate print head (see photo 6).

How to bleed CISS in Canon printers where the print head is built into the cartridge

Disconnect the CISS from the cartridges, refill the cartridges in the usual way, fill the CISS loop and connect it back to the cartridges. Note that in CISS based on original cartridges with a built-in print head, air appears in the ink plume, often due to leaky connections, and sometimes due to a leaky cartridge.

READ  How to clean the epson l222 printer head

With the help of a special platform or clip, unfortunately I do not know its exact name (see photo 7). A very handy tool and makes work very easy. You insert the cartridge into the mouthpiece, turn the cartridge over so that the print head is at the top and draw out the ink with a syringe. Pull the ink out until no more air escapes from the cartridge.

Filling platform (clip) for pumping cartridges universal

The disadvantage of this method is the high consumption of ink, because not all colors are filled evenly.

How to bleed CISS in Canon printers, where the print head is separate from the cartridges

As in the previous case, I fill the cartridges, fill the ink loop with ink, connect one to the other, put it back into the printer.

The second method is probably for the lazy, but you need to get used to it, the point is that you raise the ink containers above the cartridges by about 20 cm. and the ink begins to flow by gravity into the cartridge. But since cartridges are not always filled evenly, then you have to cover the outlet openings of the cartridges with something, often your fingers 🙂

In conclusion, I note that CISS works stably on fresh ink and when it is sealed, if this is not the case, then there will be constant air in the tubes, and any other problems with print quality.

Approach any business with reason and you will succeed.!

Features of refilling and replacing inkjet cartridges in Canon Pixma and MP

Recently, all Canon mid-range and high-end inkjet printers and MFPs use separate ink tanks (cartridges) (except for the cheap PIXMA iP1800 / 1900/2600 series printers), each of which contains only one color ink, and a single print head is mounted on carriage.
Each ink tank (cartridge) has a chip used as a counter for the number of printed pages.

These ink tanks are labeled PGI-5Bk, CLI-8, PGI-520Bk, CLI-521.

This technology is more economical. it allows you to manage each color separately, regardless of their number, the amount of remaining ink in each of the ink tanks (cartridges) and replace any of them separately. In addition, the new single print head allows you to control the size of the drop applied to the paper. from 2 to 1 pl!

It also has a positive effect on print quality and color mixing. However, due to the fact that the ink tanks are chip-based, after the end of the ink, the device stops and does not allow printing further until the cartridge is replaced.

Many users refill ink tanks, but after refueling such a cartridge will still not be detected by the printer as full.

Disabling ink level control and replacing ink (cartridges) in Canon Pixma printers and Canon MP MFPs in the standard way

The ink level information for the chips installed in the ink cartridges of Canon Pixma printers that use separate ink tanks cannot be reset or cleared. In order not to block the operation of the printer when reaching zero values of the ink level in the cartridges, as well as after replacing the cartridges, according to the chip, it is necessary to disable the printer’s control system for the level of ink in the cartridges. To do this, after the printer displays a message that some cartridge has run out of ink. it is necessary to press the paper feed button (middle button with a triangle and a blinking indicator) and hold it down for 10 seconds.

After that, the printer will turn off the ink level control system for this ink tank. Now the printer will not block the job.

If you occasionally receive a message stating that the ink cartridges are low on ink. just ignore them.

The cartridges PGI-520Bk, CLI-521 have their own characteristics, and you may not be able to turn off the ink level control using the method described above.

In this case, you need to disable it programmatically in Windows.
It does it like this: Start = Control Panel = Printers = Right-click on your printer = properties = on the ports tab, uncheck the “Allow two-way communication” checkbox.

Problems in detecting refilled ink tanks in Canon printers and MFPs

Depending on the model of the device, the chips of the cartridges (and “pampers” of the devices) can be: reset, reset using the programmer or turn off tracking at the counter in the menu of the device or in the settings of device drivers. In this article, we’ll show you how to deal with chips on Canon cartridges.

Do not confuse the ink counter in the cartridge and the waste ink counter. the so-called diaper counter. They are reset in different ways.

Resetting the cartridge chip PGI-5Bk, CLI-8, PGI-520Bk, CLI-521 using the programmer

Disabling ink control in Canon Pixma printers and Canon MP MFPs

Information about the ink level in the chips installed in the cartridges of Canon Pixma printers that use separate ink tanks, such as iP4200, iP5200, etc. cannot be reset or zeroed.

In order not to block the operation of the printer when the ink level in the cartridges reaches zero values according to the chip data, it is necessary to disable the printer control system for the ink level in the cartridges.

If occasionally you get a message that the ink cartridges are low on ink. just ignore them.
