Cleaning procedure. choosing tools
- A piece of thin plastic.
- Microfiber fabric.
- Second glue.
- Alcohol-based glass cleaner.
- The printer itself.
We turn on the printer, as soon as the print head moves to the center, we disconnect the printer from the network. We move the print head so that it does not interfere with us, and measure the size of the diaper.
Cut off a piece of soft plastic (I took plastic from melted cheese) slightly larger than the size of a diaper. This is to prevent ink from getting inside the printer.
Apply quick-drying or instant glue to the edges of the plastic, and wrap the edges of the microfiber on the back of the plastic.
We spray the detergent onto the microfiber with plastic, it is necessary that the fabric is well saturated. After that we put the soaked cloth with plastic on the diaper of the Epson printer. Holding the plastic, we pass the print head left and right several times, and leave it on the microfiber to bake off for 6-8 hours.
After that, we remove the microfiber and you can connect the printer.
How to clean the Epson printer head?
Epson printers get clogged quite often and this is a fact. over, the cause of such a problem can be a wide variety of factors: air bubbles, paper dust and some other reasons.
Most often, the cause of some problems when printing is too long idle time of the printer without using it in work. This usually applies to home printers, since in office conditions this technique is still used much more often.
After a long break, you should definitely make sure that the print head of your printer is working normally. This can be done in a simple way. use a nozzle template. In order to display this template, you need to run the standard driver of your printer by pressing certain buttons located on the body of the printer itself. On a specific printer model, this button may be located in its place, so use the instructions to find it.

How to clean the head of an Epson printer?
It is impossible to clean (that is, through the standard cleaning function) for a long time. Three, four, but five times is already the limit. Further, unwanted temperature processes will begin to occur in the head, and then you will definitely have to put the printer aside for a week.
Pay attention to a few things when cleaning.
The entire route of the printhead must be kept clean.
The paralon should not bristle, and, of course, there should be no debris. The photo shows a sample of a rather dirty printer, and of course the percentage of blockages is higher. It is recommended to arrange for the waste ink to be discharged outside, and not into the internal diaper.
How to clean the nozzles of an Epson printer. the way for the most difficult cases
This method is also intended for “severe cases”. If your printer completely refuses to print, that is, the head nozzles are tightly blocked by the clogging plug, then use this method.
- Remove the printhead.
- It is necessary to find a small box, rinse it with distilled water and fill in the resuscitation liquid so that the height of the liquid column in the box is
3-4 mm, then put the print head there with the nozzles down. It is also necessary to put a cotton swab, abundantly moistened with the flushing liquid, on the upper fittings of the head. To prevent the liquid from evaporating, we put all this in a bag or wrap it with food cellophane and leave it for 5-6 days.
How to clean the head of an Epson printer using the system method?
If you notice a deterioration in the operation of the printer, for example, the print quality has dropped, documents start to strip, there is no color when printing, then you need to start cleaning the print head.
In the Start menu, select the printers section, select the device and go to the print settings. Open the “Service” tab and find the “Printhead cleaning” option. If you are using an MFP, then on the touch panel of the device, select the menu “Settings, then” Maintenance and “Head cleaning, press” Start. Delay printing a test document for 30 minutes.
Remember that this method cannot be used on a permanent basis. It is relevant only for the first time after purchasing a new printer.
We offer you the proven Epson SG cleaning methods. How to properly flush an Epson printer head?
There are many different ways of flushing, but we will consider here only the most useful and most effective, namely flushing the Epson printer.
If your Epson device “got sick with horizontal streaks” then debris has entered the printhead (PG). You can get rid of it in the following ways. They should be used exactly in the order in which they are proposed here! Let’s start flushing the Epson head!
There are various methods for flushing the Epson print head and printer. Let’s consider one of them. Use Epson Print Head Cleaning from the device utility. Click “Start”, then “Printers and Faxes”, select your device, right-click on it, select “Printing Preferences” from the offered one, and you will have the following menu, click “Service”. Select the Epson print head cleaning mode, and print the test, if your test lacks the necessary “lines”, you should not do the cleaning again. Do the following:
“A sandwich”. as a method for cleaning the print head of Epson printers. Its essence lies in passive soaking with active chemical detergents. Hereinafter, under the soaking liquid, we mean the liquid “Mister Muscle” (MM), green or blue, but only for washing glass! Before installing the “sandwich”, ALWAYS remove the cartridges, or CISS.
To install the “sandwich”, turn on the device, select to replace the cartridge, when the carriage with the steam generator moves to the position of replacing the cartridge, unplug the plug from the power outlet, move the carriage to the left, in the lower right part of the device you will see the seat of the steam generator when parking, it looks like a foam-rubber rectangle edged with a rubber rim, called a mouth guard. You need to make a template for further procedures. Attach a piece of heavy paper or a plastic bottle to the mouthguard, on which the outline of the mouthguard will be printed
Take a thick, lint-free cloth, attach a pattern print to it, and cut this print out of the fabric.
Glue the fabric to the paper on double-sided tape, or with glue. Moment, the fabric to the paper, so it does not move out of place; wet fabric sticks to metal, and it will be difficult to peel it off from the PG of this strip, put the resulting strip on the mouthguard, with the fabric up, draw 5 ml of MM into the syringe, and drip it onto the fabric,
wait a while, and then drip some more. this is the “sandwich”. do not be afraid that a certain amount of MM will pour out of the mouthguard, everything is designed for an excess of liquid. Without turning on the printer, move the PG carriage with your hands to the maximum right position, i.e. “Park” manually. After 12 hours without turning on the device, move the carriage manually and remove the “sandwich”, install cartridges or CISS, return the carriage to the position of replacing cartridges, and connect the device to the network. After turning on, the device will automatically go into cleaning mode, then do step 1. If the position with the non-printing nozzles has improved, and there are fewer of them, then continue this daily. If some nozzles have not worked within 14 days, proceed to the next level. To enhance the effectiveness, put on dropper pieces at the time of soaking, on the PG needles, and fill these pieces with rinsing, i.e. MM, this is how the cleaning works from both sides.
Forced cleaning with a syringe. All subsequent actions are recommended if you have technical skills. Take a 5 ml syringe, cut off 5 cm of the tube from the blood transfusion system, put one end of the tube on the nozzle of the syringe without a needle. Set the PG in the position of replacing cartridges, remove cartridges or CISS, remove the device plug from the network. Move the steam generator to the left in the middle, so that the rinse falls on the foam sponge and does not drain onto the gears. Draw 2 ml of MM and 2 ml of air into the syringe (i.e. 50:50 air to flush ratio). Slide the free end of the tube over the PG needle. Press down on the syringe plunger by squeezing the air in it from 2ml to 1ml.
Attention! When flushing the Epson printer, do not push very hard, the SG has adhesive bonds that break under strong pressure! If the ink begins to leave the syringe, it means that the nozzles are partially clogged and it is recommended to push through the syringe until the syringe is empty, at the end of the rinsing in the syringe, without removing the syringe, pull the plunger up, 2 ml, then press it all the way down, creating bubbles at the outlet PG. Such actions create a cavitation effect at the steam generator outlet, enhancing the cleaning efficiency. Pump the Epson print head with foam 10. 20 times, then type MM and air again and push through the entire MM, trying not to let air into the SG, leaving 0.3 ml of MM in the syringe. Repeat for the remaining colors. Important! Do not allow flushing to spray on the carriage surface, a small amount is allowed in the cavity around the PG needles, spread toilet paper around the needles, and change it when it gets wet. If rinsing is copious, dry the Epson printhead carriage with a hair dryer, do not overheat. But if the ink does not come from the syringe, and you have already made a “sandwich”, there is another way.
Ultrasonic bath syringe. From the name it is clear that this method will require an ultrasonic bath, into which MM must be poured 5mm from the bottom. The use of MM in this case is of great importance. when it hits the surface of the internal parts of the steam generator, it minimizes electrical short-circuits, probably due to low electrical conductivity. Attention! Constantly control the amount of flushing in the bath, pump out the excess with a syringe, if the flush gets inside the steam generator, on the surface of the printed circuit board, it will irreversibly disable it forever! We will not describe the removal of the print head when flushing the Epson printer here, look for the removal scheme in the corresponding section. Type MM 50:50 into the syringe with air, turn on the bath, lower the PG by 2-3 mm into the liquid, do not put the PG at the bottom of the bath, keep the PG suspended in the liquid and pump it with a syringe, repeat for each color.
Perform quality control visually, lift the Epson printhead out of the tray, and carefully look at the nozzle section. When pushing with a syringe, you should see rain from the rinse. A high-quality flushing is one in which the rain from MM consists of parallel non-“oblique” streams, without gaps.
If it is not possible to blow through all the nozzles in 10-15 pumpings, use the “back and forth” system, but only in air, i.e. not in liquid, because sucking liquid from below through the nozzles will cause debris to enter the print head of the Epson printer, which will disable it! Some nozzles still do not work. put the steam generator in the tray, cover it with a cloth (since the condensate resulting from the lid will get inside the steam generator) unplug it and leave it overnight, check the immersion depth of the steam generator. no more than 5 mm. Then repeat the whole cleaning again.
In some cases, it is sometimes very difficult to clean one or two curved nozzles, and in such cases, cleaning helps. finger that simulates cleaning with a rubber scraper on the printer. Pressing the syringe into the problematic MM color, make cleaning movements with your finger along the surface of the nozzle plate, then visually control the rain, after such procedures, uneven beating nozzles very often break through. If, as a result of cleaning within 14 days, the nozzles did not break through, then the PG will remain unrefined. Due to the fact that the cost of GHG in the service sometimes exceeds the cost of the device, the choice is yours. Well, we congratulate those who have cleaned all their nozzles! After cleaning, dry with a PG hairdryer and place on a windowsill on the sunny side. Dry the steam generator for 3-5 days, then place the steam generator very carefully on the device. Repeat step 1.
“Pampers” of Epson printers. Waste ink counter. Resetting the counter using SSC Service Utility
In this article, you will learn what a ‘diaper’ is, how to clean it and how to reset the waste ink counter in Epson printers.
This article will not tell you how to refill original (native) Epson cartridges. I recommend reading this article: ‘What is a chip in an Epson cartridge?’
Ever wondered where ink goes, which for some reason did not get on the sheet? What is their number and is it necessary to do anything about it?
How does ink get into a diaper and why is it needed at all?
When printing with an inkjet printer, not all of the ink reaches the paper. Quite a lot of ink is purged by the printer during head cleaning. The principle of cleaning consists in the forced drive of ink from the cartridge through the nozzles into the printer mouth, connected to the pump, from where the ink is already drained into the diaper.
The printer performs cleaning of the print head automatically after a certain time, the frequency of cleaning is determined by the aLGorithm built into the printer’s memory and depends on the frequency of switching on the printer, the number of printed sheets and the print mode. Typically, nozzle cleaning is necessary to ensure print quality when not all of the nozzles are present on the test print. those. are contaminated and require forced flushing. Since the design of the printers does not provide for anything else, the nozzles are flushed with ink from the cartridge. At the same time, in the composition of the ink itself there are substances with good detergency. Also, a certain amount of ink is drained into the diaper when replacing the cartridge. since the printer pumps ink from the cartridge to the print head and the excess ink is disposed of.
In addition to routine cleanings, the user can also force cleaning the print head using the graphic shell of the printer driver.
Also, when printing borderless photos, the printer fills not only the photo itself, but also 2-3 mm around it. All this unclaimed ink ends up in a special printer sump, the so-called “pampers”.
So what exactly is a printer pampers? And why exactly ‘diapers’?
Epson inkjet printers (by the way, not only Epson) have a special place where ink is drained during cleaning the print head. This place is called. absorber or ‘diaper’ (colloquial). a spongy part made of highly hydroscopic material, located at the bottom of the printer, designed to absorb waste (not used for its intended purpose) ink when printing and cleaning the print head.
Physically, a diaper is an absorbent material with a high degree of absorption and retention of liquid substances. The main task of the material is to keep the liquid in itself in order not to get it inside the printer, which is why this material is called a diaper. similar to baby diapers, performing a similar role in childcare.
Structurally, the printer pampers can be made in different ways. Typically, the inkjet pad is located at the bottom of the printer under the bed of the entire printing mechanism and is a few strips of porous “felt” material. In Epson printers, a diaper is a plastic container filled with absorbent material. The capacity of the pampers is different for different printers. expensive models designed for a larger print volume have more pampers than cheap home inkjets.
Pampers have a very high absorbency and can take up to 200 ml of liquid at a time (practically a glass of water). Since with a large number of cleanings (with intensive use of the printer), the diaper gradually fills up and there is a possibility of ink overflow, the designers provided for a virtual waste ink counter system, which sums up all milliliters of ink that enter the diaper with each cleaning or pumping to a certain value, upon reaching which, the printer displays a message about the need for printer maintenance. When you see a message (on your computer screen or printer display) such as, ‘Some parts of your printer have reached the end of their life and need to be replaced. Contact the service center ‘, then most likely we are talking about changing the diaper.
Printers do not have built-in sensors for the filling level of the diaper and determine its critical value by software, counting the print volume in non-volatile memory. When this value is reached, the printer refuses to work, signaling an error. Epson printers signal the proximity of a critical value in advance.
Each time the ink is drained, the printer stores the amount of ink drained into the pampers. Through the individual number of cleanings for each Epson printer model, the value of the pad filling counter reaches a critical level and the printer stops printing, informing you that parts of your printer require maintenance or replacement and suggests contacting the Epson service center.
In fact, especially in areas with dry air, the diaper absorber is only half full and in fact can last one more period, and in some cases even two times, since the ink that gets into the absorber dries up, and the absorber dries with it. Nevertheless, in order not to risk it, it is best to contact a specialist who will not only check the fullness of the printer pampers and determine the need to replace it, but also perform software reset of the waste ink counter. Otherwise, the printer will refuse to work and you will not be able to bypass this protection by any means other than software resetting the counter.
If an overflow error occurs, follow the instructions for the printer and take the printer to a service center to physically replace the pads with a new one. However, you can try to do it yourself without going anywhere.
Cleaning the ‘diaper’ consists of two stages:
1) Software reset of waste ink level from computer via USB cable
2) Physical cleaning (washing or replacement) of the felt
You will need a service program to reset. You can download it for free from the official website of the program www.sscLG.com or via the direct link SSC Service Utility (v4.30).
SSC Service Utility has a number of useful functions for working with your Epson printer:
1) Works directly with CSIC in cartridges of Epson Stylus printers
2) Reset and flashing any chips using an additional device
3) Allows you to ‘freeze’ internal ink counters
4) Reset internal ink counters (even with empty cartridges)
5) Separate cleaning of color and b / w heads for all models of Epson inkjet printers, forced cleaning mode
6) Supports hot swapping of cartridges
7) Reset the counter of the discharged ink (pampers), even if it is already full
8) Support for over 100 different Epson printers
The program is especially useful for people who print large volumes of documents, as it allows you to significantly save on ink and cartridges.
A complete list of supported printer models can be found here.
At the moment the program works in Windows 95/98 / ME / 2K2 / XP with both LPT and USB printers.
In the future, in order not to wash the ‘diaper’, you can organize the discharge of waste ink into a separate container.
To reset printers that do not use chip cartridges and have buttons for ‘paper feed’ and ‘change / clean cartridge’, you must press a certain key combination. Turn on the printer with the ‘sheet feed’ and ‘change / clean cartridge’ buttons pressed simultaneously, after the printer blinks three lights, press the ‘change / clean cartridge’ button and hold it pressed for 2 to 10 seconds (depending on printer model), then it will blink all the lights again and reset the diaper counter.
When dropping the pampers, it should be borne in mind that printer manufacturers are reinsured for a reason. A real overflow of ink in the diaper can cause it to flood the table, paper during printing, as well as the print head.
Removing the diaper from the printer is quite time consuming and requires almost complete disassembly of the printer. You should not try to do this without having experience of similar work. However, if you still dare to pull it out, you should not throw out the old diaper. It is enough to wash it thoroughly in plain water and then dry it. The diaper is washed simply under running water from the tap. You can do without removing the diaper from the printer. You can gently blot a wet diaper with a large number of tissues.
This operation should be performed with extreme care so as not to damage other parts of the printer.

This is an overflow error of the absorber counter (working off, diaper). This is a software error, and in order to continue working, it is enough to reset this error using one of the special programs. Most likely, you will have to part with a small amount of money in order to save time on the trip to the service center, where you will most likely leave even more money.
The situation is decisive, the error can be reset very quickly. Let’s consider one optimal reusable option
