    How does ink get into a diaper and why is it needed at all?

    When printing with an inkjet printer, not all of the ink reaches the paper. Quite a lot of ink is purged by the printer during head cleaning. The principle of cleaning consists in the forced drive of ink from the cartridge through the nozzles into the printer mouth, connected to the pump, from where the ink is already drained into the diaper.

    The printer performs cleaning of the print head automatically after a certain time, the frequency of cleaning is determined by the aLGorithm built into the printer’s memory and depends on the frequency of switching on the printer, the number of printed sheets and the print mode. Typically, nozzle cleaning is necessary to ensure print quality when not all of the nozzles are present on the test print. those. are contaminated and require forced flushing. Since the design of the printers does not provide for anything else, the nozzles are flushed with ink from the cartridge. At the same time, in the composition of the ink itself there are substances with good detergency. The main task of the material is to keep the liquid in itself in order not to get it inside the printer, which is why this material is called a diaper. similar to baby diapers, performing a similar role in childcare.

    Structurally, the printer pampers can be made in different ways. Typically, the inkjet pad is located at the bottom of the printer under the bed of the entire printing mechanism and is a few strips of porous “felt” material. In Epson printers, a diaper is a plastic container filled with absorbent material. The capacity of the pampers is different for different printers. expensive models designed for a larger print volume have more pampers than cheap home inkjets.

    Pampers have a very high absorbency and can take up to 200 ml of liquid at a time (practically a glass of water). Since with a large number of cleanings (with intensive use of the printer), the diaper gradually fills up and there is a possibility of ink overflow, the designers provided for a virtual waste ink counter system, which sums up all milliliters of ink that enter the diaper with each cleaning or pumping to a certain value, upon reaching which, the printer displays a message about the need for printer maintenance. The diaper is washed simply under running water from the tap. You can do without removing the diaper from the printer. You can gently blot a wet diaper with a large number of tissues.
