Everyone faced a problem when the sheets were wrapped around the feed rollers. A jam occurred and the operation was stopped. In addition, the damaged paper could no longer be used.

How to prevent and clear paper jams in the printer, read this resource.

    What Can Cause Jams?

To understand how to remove the sheets and fix the problem, you need to understand why this happened. Depending on the cause, damage can be eliminated and prevented in different ways. The main causes of breakdowns include:

    • the use of low-quality paper. it leads to the formation of “paper dust”, which accumulates on the details of the device and leads to its malfunction;
    • wear of rollers. This part in the printer helps you remove sheets from the tray and feed them for printing. If the rollers are used longer than the lifespan specified in the instructions, they may cause paper jams;
    • use of non-original and incompatible cartridges. Original cartridges from manufacturers will help improve print quality and avoid jams.

Correct connection and operation of the device is also of great importance. Carefully read the instructions for the technique and do not violate the recommended mode of use.

    How to prevent printer problems?

To avoid having to disassemble the printing device in parts, use it correctly. There are several “preventative” measures to avoid printer malfunctions and paper jams:

    • one of the paper classes A, B, C is suitable for each printer. Carefully read the instructions for the device and select the appropriate paper type;
    • do not use cardboard, landscape and foil paper for printing;
    • Do not place wrinkled, damp, or stapled paper in the tray.
    • do not overload the paper compartment;
    • use sheets of the same density.

These simple steps can reduce the risk of printer malfunctions.

Step-by-step plan: clear the jam in the printer

What if the paper is jammed inside the printer? When you are faced with a breakdown, do not panic, in most cases it is fixable. Follow these steps:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Open the cover through which you usually insert the cartridge.
    • Let the printer cool down. In some printers, such as laser printers, the paper passes through the fuser. It consists of two rollers and is heated to a high temperature. Wait 10-30 minutes for the fuser to cool down. You can then proceed to clear the jam without the risk of scalding.
    • If you do not see the jammed sheet, remove the cartridge. Open the cover on the top or front of the printer. Remove the cartridge by simply pulling it out. In some printer models, you first need to open the cap that secures the cartridge.
    • Take out the crumpled paper. Grasp the sheet with both hands and gently pull towards you.
    • Check the condition of the rollers. Jams are often caused by pinching the rollers. Try rotating the rollers by hand. If they are stuck, check the side mechanisms, and then remove one of the rollers and take out a sheet of paper.
    • If these methods do not work, disassemble the printer to find the jammed paper. Read the documentation for your printer. If the printer does not work, take it to a workshop.

With the correct use of printing technology, jams are extremely rare. To make your device last longer, initially choose printers from leading manufacturers, as well as high-quality consumables for them. paper and cartridges.

Removing Jammed Paper from the Output Tray Exit

Follow these steps to clear the jammed sheet from the output tray. The first is to open the printer’s exit cover.

Remove the jammed sheet slowly from the printer. Make sure there are no scraps of paper left in the product.

    Xerox Phaser Exit Cover Clogged

If you cannot see the jammed sheet under the top cover of the printer, try to locate it under the front cover and in the input tray of the machine.

If the above methods did not help you clear the jammed paper from the printer, trust the professionals and take your Xerox Phaser printer to the nearest Xerox service center. And remember that the main causes of paper jams are using the wrong type of paper and loading it incorrectly into the printer.

Removing Jammed Paper from Under the Front Cover

Releasing the latch on the front of the printer

Pull the jammed media out of the printer slowly. Make sure there are no torn pieces of paper left in the product.

Removing Jammed Media from the Printer

When pulling the paper out of the printer, do not use brute force or pull the sheet out of the device. Remove the media slowly and carefully, grasping the sides of the sheet as close to the printer as possible. If, when pulling out the paper, you feel that the sheet is taut and may tear, change the position of your hands, grab it more comfortably.

    Clogged printer front cover

When reloading media, remember that most Xerox Phaser printers only use paper weights between 60 gsm and 220 gsm.

If you cannot see the jammed paper under the front cover of the printer, try to locate it under the top cover or in the input tray of the machine.

    Jam reasons

So why is this failure occurring? In fact, there are many reasons why a sheet of paper may remain in the printer. If you know in advance about possible problems with office equipment, most of them can be easily avoided.

    • Poor quality paper is perhaps one of the most common reasons. If you have purchased cheap paper, use old, previously used sheets, then be prepared for possible consequences. Poor quality products can be easily damaged and be “eaten” by printing equipment.
    • Damage to paper pages: wrinkled edges, tears, folds very often lead to the fact that the transfer mechanism of the printing device chews them up.
    • Excessive moisture in the paper. If the paper has been stored improperly (damp, high humidity), or you have spilled something on it before, be careful: the sheets may stick to each other and become jammed as a result.
    • On the contrary, excessive dryness of the paper. Due to static voltage, the sheets easily electrify and begin to stick to each other.
    • Very thin or thick paper of the wrong standard required by a particular brand of printer. Before using the printer, check the information on what sheet density it can accept.
    • Foreign objects inside. Sometimes the smallest office debris (paper clips, caps, staples, pencil lead, dust, etc.) can get into the inside of the equipment, this will also sooner or later lead to malfunctions.
    • Normal wear and tear of rotating rollers, their mechanical damage, and other violations of the rules for working with the printer.

    Laser

The above instructions on how to pull out the paper are also relevant for laser printers. Everything is much simpler here: laser printers, unlike inkjet printers, do not have to be disconnected from the power supply and turned on again. The most important thing is not to pull out the page abruptly, jerkily, otherwise it may tear. Modern models of laser printers (for example, Epson, Brother, etc.) come with a detailed manual, which describes how to solve this problem for a specific model. You can also set the settings for the loaded paper.

How to clear a paper jam in the printer

    Removing a jammed sheet

    • First you need to disconnect your printing device from the power source. You may need to open the internal structure of the appliance while removing the paper. for example, check the paper feed rollers. If the printer remains connected to the mains, there is a considerable risk of electric shock, and it is better not to joke with electricity.
    • Cancel all jobs in the print queue.
    • Some office equipment such as Canon, Xerox 3010 and Laserjet 6L, after disconnecting from the power source, immediately feed the paper to the receiving tray. If this does not happen, try to turn the device on and off again.
    • Often, printers do not have the function described in the previous paragraph (for example, HP machines). Then it is necessary to open the cover, which covers access to the inner parts of the printing device. Estimate how deep the jammed sheet is.
    • If a significant part of the sheet is located at the very beginning of the paper feed roller, then it is recommended to pull it out against the movement of the rotating rollers. Gently grasp both edges of the sheet and slowly pull it out of the printer.
    • It happens that the paper is jammed already at the exit from the press. In this case, we will have to pull the sheet in the direction of movement of the rollers. For laser printers, before this you need to get the cartridge, as it interferes with access to the pressing mechanism.
    • After you remove the paper, make sure that it has not torn and that a piece of the sheet is not left inside. We reconnect the printing device to the power supply, inspect the on and readiness indicators. They are usually located on the front of the printer. If the light blinks red and the problem still persists, try pulling out and then reinstalling the cartridge.
    • If the paper is damaged during the removal process, carefully inspect the rotating rollers. To do this, carefully, slowly disassemble the printer, taking out the removable elements and the ink cartridge. Provide yourself with good lighting when looking at the inside of the appliance. Find the remainder of the paper and gently grasp the edge and pull it out. When doing this, do not forget to rotate the pressure roller.

    Extraction nuances in different printers

Remember that different types of printers have slightly different troubleshooting methods.

The paper size in the settings does not match the actual

It happens that there are A4 sheets in the paper feed tray, and a different size is specified in the print settings, for example, 10×15 cm. In such a situation, the printer will refuse to print and may display a “jam” as an error. The problem is harmless and is eliminated by restarting printing with the correct settings.

Encoder (raster) tape is not read correctly

The encoder tape is a dashed strip along which the device determines the position of the print carriage in space. The carriage mileage is set by the number of lines read on the encoder. So if dirt or ink gets on the ribbon, the positioning gets confused and the carriage can bury itself on the side of the printer. The printer will perceive this as an obstacle to printing and will issue a “paper jam”.

The problem is solved by cleaning the encoder tape from contaminants. Wipe it with a dry cloth. If it does not help. slightly moistened with water, but then the tape still needs to be wiped dry. You cannot use a service liquid to clean the encoder. you can damage the shading, which will cause the tape to be discarded altogether.

Feed roller does not pick up paper

The roller, which is responsible for feeding the paper, gets dirty over time and loses its former elasticity, which can cause the printer to stop picking sheets from the tray. The print device driver may interpret this as a jam and generate a corresponding error, although this does not happen often.

If the sheet does not want to go into the printer after sending a print job, try cleaning the feed roller with a cleaning agent. Please note that alcohol-based cleaners are not suitable for working with rubber. it dries out and becomes unusable even faster.

Error “paper jam” on printers Epson, Canon, HP. how to clear (even if there is no jam)

Owners of printers sooner or later face the problem of paper jams. Ways to eliminate it are usually detailed in the official instructions: you need to turn off the device, allow the hot parts to cool, and then carefully remove the jammed sheet. Oftentimes, however, the printer reports a paper jam error when there is no jam. The problem is relevant not only for Epson, Canon or HP, but also for Samsung, Brother, Kyocera and others.

First, we advise you to try restarting printing or restarting the printer and trying to print something again. If the error persists, the cause must be looked for inside the device. Below are possible options.

The carriage is stuck due to an incorrectly stretched CISS cable

If you are using a continuous ink supply system for Canon, Epson or HP, it is possible that the plume inside is overtightened or tangled, thereby obstructing the movement of the carriage. The printing device, detecting interference in printing, may write an error “paper jam”.

Open the printer and check the ribbon cable. Roll the carriage inside (with the device off) and check that it moves smoothly.

Foreign objects are caught in the paper tray

It happens that some household trifle gets into the paper tray, interfering with printing. In this case, the printer may also stop printing and display an error.

Open the printer, remove all sheets and make sure there are no foreign objects inside, including on the bottom or sides of the tray.

Foreign objects hit the carriage parking space

If you have recently opened the printer cover and, for example, changed cartridges, small foreign objects may have gotten inside: a pen cap, a paper clip, or something similar. As a result, there will be an obstacle to the movement of the carriage, the printer will detect it and stop printing with an error.

Open the printer and make sure there are no foreign objects inside.

    Foreign object

A variant of why the printer writes “paper jam” may be a foreign object that interferes with the normal operation of the MFP. A paper clip or piece of duct tape may cause the device to stop working. The easiest way to fix the problem is if the third-party item lies directly on the stack of sheets. But from time to time it gets caught in the path of the sheets.

There is only one option, how to clear a paper jam in the printer without the help of others, if a foreign object is stuck.

    • Turn off the printer.
    • Take cardboard.
    • Slowly push it on your own until it goes all the way through the paper and pushes out the foreign body.

You should be extremely careful. A staple jammed between the carriage and the brake method can not only cause paper jams in the Epson printer. It can destroy the device itself.

The reason is in the printer

    • The rollers are dirty. The make consists of small plastic cylinders covered with rough rubber. Dirt gets between the roughness, paint residues, as a result, stripes are visible on the printed sheet. Sheets are unevenly pulled through the rollers and wrinkled. In case of contamination, remove the chewed sheet and wipe the cylinders with a damp, lint-free cloth. Over time, the roughness on the rubber is erased, and the rollers begin to wrinkle the pages even without contamination. Exit. substitution of videos.
    • Parts of the feed mechanism are worn out. The paper is fed by nine parts of the printer. If any of the parts fails, there may be a jam. If there is a rustling and creaking sound during a jam, the thermo unit is broken. Corrects the situation of replacing a part in a service center.
    • Printer overheating. If the printer has been running for a long time and has jammed the paper, overheating may be a prerequisite. Clear the jam, turn off the machine, and let it cool and rest. In the future, print in small batches to prevent re-overheating.
    • Foreign objects in the feed unit. Paper clips, keys and other small objects can get inside. Open the printer cover to remove them. Shine a flashlight, examine the contents of the printer, especially in the corners, where all the debris that the carriage drives there during movement accumulates. Excessive items can also be found behind the carriage. Pull them out and close the lid.
    • Incorrect cartridge assembly. Inappropriate installation of the ink tank leads to deformation of the units and parts of the printing device. When printing, imperfections (stripes, daubs) appear on the page, the movement line changes and the paper wrinkles. The installation of the cartridge must be done strictly according to the annotation or give work to specialists.
    • Open paper tray. Opening the tray during printing may not only freeze printing, but also jam the paper.
READ  Cartridge Cb435a For Which Printers

    Jam causes and remedies

An error occurs when the sheet is chewed. Instead of a smooth page with text or an image, the user gets an “accordion”, which is difficult to get from the MFP. It is unrealistic to completely avoid such a task, but you can quickly fix it so that all other pages are printed without jams.

If the printer chews at the entrance

Paper jams at the entrance to the printer are most often related to paper quality and characteristics.

    • Low-grade paper. A paper jam occurs due to the extra thinness of the sheets.
    • A very thick bundle of sheets. The device captures several pages at once or hooks the 2nd leaf not completely, jamming it.
    • Foreign objects. So that the jam does not come out, first check the presence of paper clips, keys, staples between the sheets.
    • Curled edges on single sheets. Before placing pages in the tray, even from an unpacked stack, check for jammed corners or crumpled pages. Remove such pages from the pack right away.

    Laser

When removing pages, there is no need to disconnect the device from the network. The main thing is to remove the sheet without sudden movements, so as not to tear the paper.

Since the oven of the laser printer during operation can heat up to 200 ° C, they begin to remove it only after the fuser cools down.

In almost all models, the cover is not only in front, but also at the back, but is less often at the bottom. Make sure there are no wrinkled sheets on either side.

Erasing the paper feed rollers is a major contributor to jams in inkjet printers.

    Inkjet

For inkjets, the rotating rollers are located behind the cartridge. When a jam occurs, first pull out the cartridge to gain access to the rest of the parts. You must first disconnect the power supply.

Almost all inkjet machines have functions to facilitate the work of users. For example, HP printers have sensors that indicate the position of the carriage at the beginning and end of the printing process. Printer wrinkles paper if the Encoder strip sensor is clogged or damaged. For his resuscitation, an alcohol-coated napkin is used. The jammed sheet is removed from the machine beforehand.

Error “paper jam” on printers Epson, Canon, HP. how to solve?

Paper jams in an Epson, Canon or HP printer can be caused by various reasons. Some of them can be solved without the help of others at home. But if none of the method described in the article helped, you should contact the service center for diagnostics and repair.
