How to connect a printer to an access point

5210G Connection in AP Client Router Mode

Open the Operation Mode menu, select the AP Client Router operation mode and press the Save button.

Go to the Network → WAN menu and indicate how TP-Link 5210G will receive network settings from a Wi-Fi point. Usually settings are assigned via DHCP, so select Dynamic IP and click Save.

If the provider blocks access to the Wi-Fi point by its MAC address, go to the Network → MAC Clone menu and in the WAN MAC Address field: specify the allowed MAC address.

Open the DHCP menu and check that DHCP Server is enabled. Enable must be selected and the Start IP Address and End IP Address fields indicate the range of IP addresses that will be allocated to computers connected via a cable from the LAN port of the 5210G.

Go to the Wireless → Wireless Mode menu, select the Client operating mode and press the Survey button.

Find the necessary Wi-Fi point in the list and click Connect.

In the Client field, the name of the point (SSID) to which we will connect and its MAC address (MAC of AP) will appear. After that, click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Enter the password for accessing the Wi-Fi access point, if any. Go to the Wireless → Security Settings menu and specify the security parameters, as on the Wi-Fi point:

  • choose the type of encryption. Our point uses WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK
  • Version: select the encryption version. We used WPA2-PSK.
  • Encryption: encryption aLGorithm. We chose Automatic.
  • PSK Passphrase: in this field, specify the password to access the access point at least 8 characters and press the Save button to save the settings

After the completed steps, go to the Status menu and check that the TP-Link 5210G is connected to the access point. The SSID field should be the name of the point you connected to. When you click on the Refresh button, the channel numbers in the Channel field should not change. If the channel numbers change, then you have entered the wrong security parameters (password for the access point or encryption parameters). The WAN field will show the network settings that were automatically assigned to the 5210G via DHCP.

Now you can connect TP-Link 5210G to the switch and computers connected via cable will have Internet access.

Configuring the network card to receive automatic settings

Regardless of which client mode you configured the TP-Link 5210G in, now we need to change the settings of the computer’s network card so that it receives the settings automatically via DHCP.

Go to “Start” → “Control Panel” → “Network and Sharing Center”.

“Local Area Connection” → “Properties”

Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)” → “Properties”

In the new window, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and click on the OK button.

Now the computer will receive network settings via DHCP and an Internet connection will appear on the computer.

You will no longer be able to enter the settings of the access point at 192.168.1.254. To enter the settings, you will first need to manually register the address of the computer’s network card 192.168.1.20.

To connect to a Wi-Fi access point using TP-Link TL-WA5210G as a client, we need:

  • Access point TP-Link TL-WA5210G;
  • Two straight crimped mains cables (with their help they make a connection like a switch computer);
  • Laptop or personal computer.

We connect the equipment as follows:

  • We connect the power supply to the POE injector;
  • We connect one network cable to the network card of the computer and to the POE injector to the LAN connector;
  • We connect the second network cable to the POE injector in the POE connector and to the TP-Link TL-WA5210G access point in the LAN connector.

Change administrator password

To prevent anyone other than the administrator from entering the TP-Link 5210G settings, you need to change the login password.

Go to the System Tools → Password menu and enter the settings:
Old User Name: old username, enter admin;
Old Password: old password, enter admin;
New User Name: enter a new username, you can leave it as admin;
New Password: enter a new password;
Confirm New Password: confirm the new password.

After that, click the Save button to save the password.

5210G connection in AP Client Bridge mode

Open the Operation Mode menu and check that the AP operating mode is selected. If this mode is not selected, select AP, press the Save button and wait for the point to reboot.

In the window that appears, find the desired point and click Connect.

In the Client field, the name of the point (SSID) to which we will connect and its MAC address (MAC of AP) should appear. Next, click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Now we will configure the access point password, if it is set. To do this, go to the Wireless → Security Settings menu and configure the security settings, as on the access point:

  • choose the type of encryption. Our point uses WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK
  • Version: select the encryption version. We used WPA2-PSK.
  • Encryption: encryption aLGorithm. We chose Automatic.
  • PSK Passphrase: in this field, specify the password to access the access point at least 8 characters and press the Save button to save the settings

After the completed steps, go to the Status menu and check that the TP-Link 5210G is connected to the access point. In the Operating Mode field there should be Client mode, in the SSID field there should be the name of the point to which you connected, in the Traffic Statistics field there should be data packets. When you click on the Refresh button, the channel numbers in the Channel field should not change. If the channel numbers change, then you did not enter the security parameters correctly (password for the access point or encryption parameters).

Configuring the network card of a personal computer

The setting is shown for the operating system Windows 7.

Go to “Start” → “Control Panel” → “Network and Sharing Center”.

“Local Area Connection” → “Properties”.

Select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)” → “Properties”.

Select in the new window “Use the following IP address”, write the IP address 192.168.1.21, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and click “OK”.

Configuring 5210G Connection to Wi-Fi Access Point

TP-Link TL-WA5210G can be configured as a Wi-Fi access point client in two modes:

AP Client Router. this mode is used when you need to connect to an access point and hide the subnet behind it. For example, you can connect to the provider’s base Wi-Fi station, turn on the 5210G point in the switch and distribute the Internet to other computers via cable. At the same time, the provider will not know that there are more computers behind your point, and the 5210G will act as a gateway to the Internet. In this mode, a DHCP server is configured on the 5210G access point, and it will distribute network settings to computers in its subnet.

AP Client Bridge. you will not find the name of this mode in the settings of the 5210G point, but this is what is meant when you want to “transparently” connect to the provider. In this mode, the 5210G transparently passes traffic from computers located behind the point to the provider’s equipment. The provider sees all connected computers and distributes network settings to them from its DHCP server. If the provider will not block access of computers to the network, then it is preferable to use this mode.
