Setting up the printer
The printer is not always ready to print right away, especially when it comes to non-standard paper sizes or the most manufactured products. Then you need to refer to the printer settings in the operating system or use an application from the developers for this. Our site has a complete guide dedicated to this topic, in which you will find answers to all your questions.
Now many users have Windows 10 installed on their computer or laptop, and in this version of the operating system, the automatic driver search function works well, which starts immediately after connecting a printer or second equipment. This process is accompanied by the appearance of appropriate notifications, including the one that will pop up after the device has been successfully configured. If the device was detected and its name is normally detected, but at the same time it is not ready for work, perhaps the problem lies in the established restriction on downloading software via metered connections, which must be disabled as follows:
- Open “Start” and go to “Settings”.
On the left panel you are interested in the category “Printers and Scanners”.
Among the settings in this window, check the box next to the “Download over metered connections”.
Once the drivers for the HP printer are installed, it will appear in the list of devices in the same menu and you can proceed to start the test print.
Drivers do not always start downloading immediately after activating the download via metered connection option. Most often, for this you have to either reconnect the printer, preferably by choosing a different USB connector, or send the computer to reboot and wait for the software to download when the next session starts.
If the printer is NOT detected by the operating system at all, therefore, drivers are not loaded either, you will need to use alternative software download options. This can be an official website or a third-party application, which can be found in the universal instructions below, or find an article dedicated to a specific printer model from HP by searching on our website.
Unpacking and Connecting Cables
The first priority is to unpack the printer, choose a suitable location for it, and connect the cables. If there are usually no problems with the power supply manual, since it is standard, then providing a connection between printing equipment and a computer for inexperienced users causes difficulties. This requires a cable, which is also included.
One side of it has an unusual USB Type B connector, which you see in the following image. This side must be inserted into the port located on the printer itself. Usually it is located on the back or side in the form of a depression, so you will have to examine the external parts of the device to find it.
Next comes the second side of the wire with a standard USB connector. Insert it into any Corresponding port on the laptop, and after turning on the printer by pressing the button, a notification about the detection of a new device should appear in the operating system.
Please note that when using personal computers, preference should be given to the USB port, which is located on the motherboard, that is, located at the back of the case. If you connect the printer to the front panel, in most cases there will be no problems, but sometimes the signal is still available due to a lack of power going to that connector.

Configuring Your Device for Networking
When you plan to use several PCs or laptops in order to print to an HP printer, it is best to immediately set up its general access and allow printing within the local network. To do this, we suggest using a separate guide on our website, follow the following link.
In addition to setting up sharing on the second computers, you need to organize a network connection. To do this, the local network must be configured, and the device is already in it. The rest of the steps are NOT time-consuming and very easy to do. Check them out in our other article.
Beginning of work
After completing all the operations to connect and configure the equipment, you can immediately proceed to interact with it. At the same time, users should take into account that printing of certain document formats is carried out in different ways, and there are also other nuances in which you need to know.
We also have help guides dedicated to maintaining the device, which will also need to be addressed sooner or later. Find a topic that suits you and read it to know more about the task ahead.
If errors occur during interaction with the printing equipment, they need to be solved by choosing the Appropriate method. Available fixes for common printing problems.
