Connecting the printer via Wi-Fi, Ethernet and USB
Multifunctional devices for printing and scanning documents and graphics are becoming more affordable every day. The development of technology and the reduction in the cost of production processes have given rise to the formation of the market for consumer printing devices. Indeed, now more and more often you can find an MFP or a SIMple printer not in a printing center, but somewhere at home or on a visit.
In addition to the process of choosing a printer for home, and no less important and pressing is the question of how to connect the MFP to the computer. Actually, our article is devoted to this topic.
How to connect a printer via Wi-Fi
Most modern printing devices are equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi module, with which the consumer can connect several laptops, PCs and gadgets to the MFP at once.
The main condition is that the connected device must also have a Wi-Fi module and an adapter (usually used in personal computers).
To connect a PC to an MFP, you must:
- Connect the MFP to your home local network (roughly speaking, set up a connection to your Wi-Fi router).
- On a computer (or laptop), install the driver and software from the manufacturer of the MFP (usually the software disc is included with the device, but the necessary drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s official website).
There is another “wireless” way to connect the MFP to a PC: Wi-Fi Direct technology allows you to connect a PC and a printer “over the air” without a local Wi-Fi network.
In addition to the wireless Wi-Fi module, most of the manufactured MFPs have an Ethernet port for wired connection to the network.
Before connecting the printer and computer with a network cable, make sure that both devices are connected to the same local area network. After that, on the computer, you must perform the steps from the method above (install drivers, etc.).
The wired method is much more reliable than the wireless one, however, and less practical: the connection cost is higher, it requires additional steps to lay the cable.
Connecting a Printer via USB
The MFP connection option via the built-in USB port is the most SIMple and popular. Most home printers connect to PCs this way.
This method is BASED on using an AM / BM type USB cable, one end of which is connected to the connector of the computer, the other to the MFP.
Our XP-330 did NOT come with a cable, but the cost of a 1.5m AM / BM type cord is 2-3.
How to connect an MFP to a computer. Connecting the Printer to a Computer: All Methods
Manufacturers of printing technicians have provided several ways to connect their products to laptops, computers and all kinds of smart-gadgets of consumers. Let’s consider them using the example of the Epson Expression Home XP-330 MFP (lucky-print.Biz/xp-330.html), the happy owner of which we became just the other day.
Can I connect multiple printers to my computer via USB?
Theoretically. there is. Almost yes!
Indeed, the limitation of only one USB port in the MFP allows you to connect only one computer, and the use of all kinds of “tees” and hubs adversely affects the performance.
However, there is a way out of this situation. To do this, you need to connect the printer to one of the computers and make settings (install drivers, programs, etc.), after which you need to GRANT the second users access to this printer over the network. In this case, other computers on your local network will see the USB printer as a network printer and will be able to work with it remotely!
The main disadvantage: if the main PC to which the MFP is connected is turned off, other users will NOT be able to use the printer.

Configuring a local network Windows 10: ways to create a LAN, Possible problems
A local area network between two computers is a great way to transfer files quickly and easily. It can be used both for home use by connecting several computers at your home, and for work purposes. And despite the fact that Windows 10, like previous versions of Windows, has all the necessary tools to create and configure a local network, the very procedure for creating it is somewhat complicated for ordinary users.
Removing LAN in Windows 10
Despite the fact that in most cases it is enough to disable the detection of a device in the local network using the method indicated above in this article, there is no need to keep local connections on the computer that are not used.
Therefore, we will consider how to delete an already created local network that we do not need.
This can be done in Windows 10 through the registry. To call it, press WinR and in the window that appears, enter the regedit command.
Attention, any incorrect registry change can harm your computer. You doing these actions at your own peril and risk.
In the registry, follow this path:
There you will find many traces of past network connections with specific names. Just delete the subsections that point you to unnecessary network connections.
Creating a local network in the Windows 10 operating system
There are two main ways you can create a local area network. This is the creation of a wireless LAN via wi-fi, or the creation of a local network using a network cable. Both methods have their pros and cons.
Your IT assistant
Connection problems in Windows 10
If you’ve created and configured your local network correctly, you shouldn’t have much of a problem. Just Make Sure:
- You enter the security key correctly when connecting to a local network via wi-fi
- The cable is securely connected to both computers.
- You have given all the necessary access and security rights.
- All connected devices have correct IP addresses, if it is not set automatically.
- Network discovery of your device is enabled in the settings.
In addition, there are a number of specific problems when connecting devices.
For example, if, when trying to connect to a device, you receive a standard Windows error in the impossibility of this action, you should take the following steps:
- Click WinX
- In the list that appears, select “Computer Management”
- Next, you need to go to the “Services” section and find in the list “Print Manager”.
- Disable this service, restart your computer and enable the service again. Most likely your problem will be resolved.
Create LAN between computers in Windows
Configuring access to folders on the created network
Now that the local network between the two computers has been established, let’s figure out how to open shared access to certain folders. Sharing can be configured either to any individual folder or to the entire disk, depending on your goals and the level of trust in the user of the second computer. For this:
- Click the right mouse button on any folder in which you want to change access settings and absorb the “Properties” section.
- Go to “Access” and select Advanced access settings.
- You will only have the option to share this folder. Check it.
Now all that remains is to make the security settings. To do this, in the same place, in the folder properties, go to the appropriate tab and do the following:
- In the permissions menu for SEPARATE groups, click “Change”.
- In the next, choose to add a new group.
Thus, access was configured for users to the specified folder. You can do this for any number of folders and users.
Adding a new device
If you have already set up a local network according to the instructions above, then adding a new device for general use will NOT be difficult. To do this, just open the control panel of your computer, and go to the “Hardware and Sound” section, and then select “Devices and Printers”. In this folder, you will see all connected devices. We do the following:
- We select the device for which you want to set up shared access. For example, it could be a printer.
- By right-clicking, calling the context menu of this device and select the “Printer Properties”.
- There, we go, as before, to the “Access” tab and find the item for sharing settings for this printer. Check the boxes to give this access.
Now that the general access to the device is open, you only need to connect it by acting through a computer in the local network. This is done like this:
- Select the user whose device you want to use and you should see the device in the public domain.
- Right click on it and select “Connect”.
Creating a LAN using a cable
It is worth pointing out right away that you have a wi-fi router at home and all computers are connected to it, no additional effort is required to create a network. There is already a connection between your computers, so there is a need to connect them additionally to each other. But in most cases, the need to create a local network arises when such a connection is available. In this case, you will need to connect computers directly to each other (modern models are easily connected with a SIMple Internet cable). Then, the first step is to make sure that the “Workgroup” parameter is assigned the same name on each of the connected devices. To do this, you should do the following:
Press the WinX key combination and select the “System” section from the list (you can also right-click in the lower left corner of the screen to call this list).
Next, you need to configure the network discovery settings. Enabled network discovery will allow you to interact with your computer on the local network, while disabled, will block this feature. It’s good to be able to toggle this setting for security reasons. This is done as follows:
- Right-click on the network connection icon in the tray (bottom right corner of the screen).
- Select “Network and Sharing Center”.
- To the left of the main window, you should select “change additional parameters”.
This is already enough if the computers are connected with cables through a router. But if they are directly connected, a number of additional settings should be made. We do the following:
- Press the WinX keyboard shortcut.
- Select the item “Network Connections” in the list that appears.
- We select the connection to the network through your device and calling the context menu by right-clicking on it.
- Go to the “Properties” device.
- Next, open the properties of the component (TCP / iPc4)
- And we set the settings as in the image below, taking into account that the last digit of the IP address should be different for each computer on the local network.
Thus, we have created and configured a local network via a network cable. Computers share each other’s files and printer, which will serve our purposes.
If you still have questions about creating such a local network, you can watch this.
How to join a Windows 10 homegroup
If in the same local network there is a computer from which a homegroup was previously created, other devices automatically detect it and offer to join. To implement your plan you should:
- Open the properties of the shortcut “My Computer”.
- Compare the value in the “Workgroup” line with the one indicated on the first PC. If it matches, no further action is required. Otherwise, proceed as follows:
- In the menu on the left, they will name the line “Additional system parameters”.
- On the first tab, name “Change”.
Enter workgroup name.
Set the categories of files and devices that will be shared.
Enter the previously obtained cipher.
Named by the button “Finish”.
The connection to the Windows 10 homegroup was successful. The computer was added to the local network and can be used to access “shared” files.
Since at the time of connecting or creating users, it can mark only standard directories, it becomes necessary to add arbitrary folders to the local network. The action is quite SIMple:
- Press RMB on the selected folder.
- In the context menu, hover over “share to”.
- They will be named according to one of two options:
- “Homegroup (view)”. other users can only View documents located in the directory.
- “Homegroup (view and change)”. full access to files with the ability to edit and delete them.
The folder will now appear in the shared list. To deny access, you need to repeat the described steps and select “Make unavailable”.
You can view all the folders to which access is possible in the explorer, using the side menu. It is enough to name it under the “Network” section and select one computer from the list. the system will show the public directories located in its memory.
How to create a homegroup in Windows 10
The initial setup process does not differ on all Windows, starting with the “seven”. At the same time, the instructions will be relevant until Windows 10, version 1803. In later editions, the “Homegroup” has been removed from the functionality (the ability to exchange files has been preserved. more on this below).
- Visit “Control Panel”, set the display mode to “Icons”.
- Find and open the “Homegroup” section.
Now you can start creating your homegroup. This will require:
- Repeat steps 1-2 of the previous list.
- The system will scan the network, if the “local” is just being created, a message will be displayed about the absence of a home group. At the bottom of the window, click the “Create.”.
Mark files and devices to which access will be made. Own directories can be added later, but for now only those suggested by the system are displayed.
Windows will complete the configuration. At its end, the password will be displayed, which is used to connect the second PC. it should be written out on a piece of paper.
The condition for connecting other computers is the presence of installed Windows 7, 8 or 10 (in version 1803), as well as connecting to the same network via Wi-Fi or cable.
The name of the working group can be changed to arbitrary. The main requirement is that it must be the same on all PCs. Detailed change instructions are provided below.
Setting up a homegroup on a Windows 10 computer
The Windows operating system has a function that allows you to establish easy access to files for viewing or moving them. Also, devices included in one local network get the ability to remotely control printers, faxes and other equipment. In this article, we will tell you how to connect to the Windows 10 homegroup. Additionally, we will touch on the topic of deleting the section in question from the operating system version 1803 and higher.
Removing a homegroup in version 1803
Starting in version 1803, creating a homegroup in Windows 10 is not possible due to the removal of the partition from the system. After sharing the documents, you can view their contents only by entering the local IP address. Microsoft developers themselves offer users to switch to distributing documents through the OneDrive cloud or the “Share” function (for more details, see the article on the official website).
Troubleshooting common problems
At the time of creation or after completing the connection process, users may experience problems. Among the possible reasons stand out:
- Different times on computers. It should launch the application “Run”, copy and paste the command “control / name Microsoft.Dateandtime”. If necessary, the time is synchronized with the server.
The user has created a homegroup on several computers at once. To delete, you need to go to the Corresponding section of the control panel, then mark the exit option. Responsible services are disabled. To check their operability and to turn on, you need to use the “services.Msc” command in the “Run” application. Then check the status and startup type of the services:
The materials presented in the article will help you understand the question of how to set up a homegroup in Windows 10 and connect to it. All computers included in the network should be set to the same workgroup name, and in the parameters set the shared access to documents. Adding the second and all subsequent machines is done by entering a password, which was generated on the first PC. It is important to take into account that the desired section in the control panel may NOT appear if the operating system version is 1803 or higher.
Equipment setup. PC connection via Wi-Fi.
This connection option is especially suitable for connecting a laptop to a laptop, since the latest Wi-Fi module comes as standard. To connect ordinary computers, you will have to buy USB Wi-Fi adapters. Them apiece. After connecting the adapters and installing the drivers, you need to put automatic IPv4 settings on both devices. To do this, go to “Control Panel” = “Network and Sharing Center” = “Change adapter settings” (or press the WinR key combination and in the Run window type the command ncpa.Cpl).
Got into network connections, you need to find the “Wireless Network” icon and name it with the right mouse button. In the context menu that opens, select the Properties item. The “Wireless Network” properties window will open. Double-click the left mouse button on the item “Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4)”:
We put the checkboxes “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. Now on one of THESE PCs you need to create a wireless network. To do this, you need to open the command term with administrator rights. In Windows 7, you need to type the phrase “Command Prompt” in the Start menu and, by right-clicking on the icon that appears, select the Run as Administrator menu item. In Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, this is easier. press the WinX key combination and select the “Command Prompt (Administrator)” item in the opened quick launch menu:
Now, in the Windows command line, we type the commands: 1. Create a wireless network nastroisam.Ru with a password of 87654321 with the command: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode = allow ssid = nastroisam.Ru key = 87654321 Network name SSID and password. you can use yours as you wish. 2. Start a wireless Wi-Fi network with the command: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
After the wireless network is created and launched on another computer or laptop, you need to go to “Wireless networks” (SIMply by clicking on the network icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar), where you should see the created wireless network, name it with the left mouse button and click the Connect button.
Enter the network security key:
And to the request to search for devices on the network. click Yes.
In the computer on which the Wi-Fi network is created, the IP address will be 192.168.173.1. The IP address of the second devices will be from the same subnet. You can see the addresses in the network connection information:
By the way, this method of connection is good because you can connect 3 or more computers or laptops through it and even distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi.
How to connect a computer to a computer. over the network, over Wi-Fi and over USB.
Now almost every apartment has a computer. someone has an old man who is used to access the Internet or as a typewriter. And for someone it is a game monster with gigabytes of RAM and terabyte hard drives, storing a huge amount of information. Over time, one more computer or laptop of one of the family members may be added to it. Or one of your friends has brought to you his laptop with a hundred gigabytes of movies that need to be urgently transferred. It goes without saying that you can easily copy such a volume on flash drives or disks. The question arises: how to connect devices to each other? Another common case is when you need to connect them to give both of them access to the Internet. Of course, if you have a Wi-Fi router or a SIMple network switch (switch) in place, the solution to this problem is SIMple. connect both computers to the router or switch and work. over, a smart router will distribute the IP address itself and then everything will go like clockwork. And what to do when there are no network devices at hand, but you really need to connect computers. I will give 3 ways to configure such a connection without using a Wi-Fi router or switch.
Connecting computers via USB.
On the second. we register the IP address 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0:
After THESE manipulations, both PCs must be visible through the network environment.
Connecting a computer to a computer via a network LAN cable.
This is the easiest and cheapest way. A network card has been integrated on all motherboards for 10 years already, and now it is very difficult to find a computer or laptop without a network card. To connect, we need a network LAN cable of the length you need, crimped in a special way. the so-called crossover. In SIMple terms. there are 2 ways to crimp a network cable. forward and backward (crossover). Direct is used to connect to a router, modem, or switch. The reverse is for connecting computers to each other directly over the network. This is what a network cable looks like, compressed as a crossover:
Got into network connections, you need to select Local Area Connection and name it with the right button. In the context menu that opens, select the Properties item. The Local Area Connections properties window opens. Double-click the left mouse button on the item “Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP / IPv4)”. On the first PC, we register the IP address 192.168.1.1 and the mask 255.255.255.0:
On the second. we write the address 192.168.1.2 mask 255.255.255.0:
The devices should now be reachable by IP addresses and visible in the network environment.
How to access a computer over a network.
To log into one computer from the second, you need to open Windows Explorer and name the address twice for the term. We delete the contents and write: \\ IP-addresses That is, for example, to access the first PC connected via a cable using the first method, you must enter \\ 192.168.1.1. And to access the second one. so \\ 192.168.1.2:
If, when trying to access, the device is not available, then you need to open access over the network on each of them. To do this, go to the “Network and Sharing Center” and call the link “Change advanced sharing settings”:
The Advanced Sharing Options window will open:
Here, for all networks, enable Sharing and disable password protection. Save the changes and try to access the computer over the network again. If it is still unavailable and the error “Windows cannot be accessed \\ 192.168.” is displayed. check if the Guest Network Access Policy is enabled. To do this, press the WinR key combination and write the secpol.Msc command in the open line:
The Security Settings window opens. We select the section “Local Policies” = “Security Settings”:
In most cases, these steps will help resolve problems with file sharing on one computer from another computer. If these actions did not help, do not despair. There is another very good way to exchange files between computers without the hassle of sharing. The HTTP File Sharing. HFS program will help us with this. You can download it here. link. It works without installation. That is, we just download and run. This window will open to you:
On the left you can add files that will be available for download. To do this, you will need to name it with the right mouse button in this field and select Add Files. And then you see the history of access to your open files. On another PC, we SIMply launch an Internet browser and in the address bar we SIMply write the IP addresses of the computer on which the files were opened. It looks like this:
And then just click on the desired file and download it.
P.S. To open access to connected devices on the Internet. this article will help you.

Adsl-modem td-8616 and Wi-Fi-router Dir-615, The problem is that on the td-8616 the LAN light is on only when this modem is connected to the computer’s built-in network card (Atheros). When I try to connect it to a switch (Acorp) or to another network card or to Dir-615, this LAN light refuses to light up. Although for a long time I calmly connected this modem (td8616) to the switch and everything worked, but now it is “friendly” only with the built-in network card of the computer.
I connected computers via Wi-Fi, but it always shows (limited), and during network games there are a lot of glitches, how to fix !
And with the second method of connection, the Internet is needed or just set up the distribution, connected and you can counter it like on a LAN without wires?
Yes, you can. Internet connection is not required.
On a laptop (windows 8.1) I set everything up, the second computer (windows 7) sees this network, but when it tries to connect, it says that it could not connect. Please tell me what the problem is?
Many thanks. Wonderful infa. And 100% working))) I could not configure for a very long time. But after reinstalling Windows and thanks to your site, everything worked out!))
A USB cable with a chip is NOT a cable anymore, but a whole device. So it should have been written.
Cool. Thanks! Through the second way to allow access to the Internet?
I don’t understand how to create a local network
Connecting two PCs in the first way, and the problem is that one of them does not have Internet Protocol version 4. Maybe it is SIMply called differently. How to be?
May be referred to as tcp / ip
Useful article. I will consider for the future that this is possible. thanks
Good afternoon, I connected my laptop and pc via wi-fi, everything is ok. But on the next day, you will have to suffer from the command line again, I would like to configure it once and connect immediately next time?
You can put the network startup command in the bat file and hang it at startup, or use a program like ostoto hotspot.
Tell me how to set up FTP connection Golden Interstar HD FTA with a computer
Hello! At the dawn of my computer illiteracy, I watched the guys install the system from computer to computer. By connecting them with a cable. I assume that with LAN-boxes. Is this option possible? How do you do it? One of my old computers started to fail. when reinstalling the system, when everything is formatted and it becomes necessary to see the medium (disk, flash drive). HE CAN’T see the MEDIA! In services, this is. Naturally, they don’t fix it, but they also DO NOT explain how to get around it! And they somehow easily get around this problem (for me 🙂 Maybe you have such an article how to do it (install C. From computer to computer) or you can. Somehow, fix the brains on the hard drive? Thank you for your patience!
Hello. Apparently it was a network installation. And from what media did you try?
