Steps for cleaning an Epson printer

There are two methods of head cleaning: hardware and manual. In the first case, you need to proceed as follows:

Through the “Start” menu open the “Devices and Printers” window;

Select the connected printer with this problem and open the “Print Settings” context menu by right-clicking on it;

In the “Service” tab, find the “Head cleaning” function and execute it.

Recovering Canon and HP Devices

How to clean the printer

How to clean the print head (PG) of an Epson printer

Forced cleaning with a syringe. All subsequent actions are recommended if you have technical skills. Set the PG in the position of replacing cartridges, Remove cartridges or CISS, Unplug the device from the network. Move the steam generator to the left to the middle, so that the rinsing falls on the foam sponge and does NOT drain onto the gears. Draw 2 ml of MM and 2 ml of air into the syringe (i.E. 50:50 air to flush ratio). Slide the free end of the tube over the PG needle. Press down on the syringe plunger by squeezing the air in it from 2 ml to 1 ml.

Attention! DO NOT push too hard, the Epson printhead has adhesive bonds that break under strong pressure! If the ink begins to leave the syringe, it means that the nozzles are partially clogged and it is recommended to push further before emptying the syringe, at the end of flushing in the syringe, and without removing the syringe, pull the plunger up, 2 ml, then press it all the way down, creating bubbles at the steam generator outlet. Such actions create the effect of cavitation at the steam generator outlet, enhancing the cleaning efficiency. Pump the PG with foam 10. 20 times, then I will dial again MM and air and push through the entire MM, trying not to let air into the PG, left 0.3 ml of MM in the syringe. Repeat for the remaining colors. Important! Ultrasonic bath syringe. From the name it is clear that this method will require an ultrasonic bath, into which you need to pour MM 5mm from the bottom. The use of MM in this case is of great importance. when it hits the surface of the internal parts of the steam generator, it minimizes electrical shorts, probably due to low electrical conductivity. Attention! I constantly monitor the amount of flushing into the bath, pump out the excess with a syringe, if the flush gets inside the steam generator, onto the surface of the printed circuit board, it will irreversibly disable it forever! We will NOT describe the removal of the PG here, look for the removal scheme in the corresponding section. Type MM 50:50 into the syringe with air, turn on the bath, lower the PG by 2-3 mm into the liquid, the PG did not become the bottom of the bath, keep the PG suspended in the liquid and We will pump it with a syringe, repeat for each color.

Perform quality control visually, lift the Epson Stylus print head from the tray, and carefully look at the nozzle section. When pushing with a syringe, you should see rain from the flush. A high-quality flushing is one in which the rain from MM consists of parallel non-“Oblique” streams, without gaps.

    If no improvement is noticeable after performing Deep Cleaning, turn off the product. Wait 24 hours, then perform the Deep Cleaning procedure again. If there are no signs of improvement, see the section “Ink is NOT delivered”.

    Solving problems with print quality of the printer after refueling

    The ink in the print cartridge periodically runs out, so it should be refilled to get quality documents again when printed. However, sometimes it happens that after installing a new cartridge or filling it up, the print quality, on the contrary, deteriorates. There are several reasons for this problem, each with a different solution. This is what will be discussed further.

    We solve the problem with the print quality of the printer after refueling

    The following methods, with the exception of the first, are suitable only for the owner of inkjet devices. If you have a laser printer in use, it is better to contact the service center to solve the problem of auto products, since the design of such ink tanks is a little more complicated, and the malfunction may also be in completely different components, only a professional can diagnose this.

    Disabling economy mode

    Periodically, users of intent either accidentally turn on economical or fast printing mode in the printer settings.     Cleaning cartridges

    Self-cleaning of the cartridge: work algorithm

    When using an inkjet or laser printer, it may be necessary to clean the cartridge. At home, devices are often used irregularly, but, despite this, they need proper care. Timely cleaning contributes to high quality printouts and extends equipment life. Do-it-yourself cleaning can be done hot and cold. In order to carry it out on time, you should know the first signs of problems with cartridges.

    Signs for cleaning

    The fact that there is a need to inspect inkjet printer cartridges is evidenced by a number of printing defects, the main of which are as follows:

    • On test prints, templates contain uneven or fuzzy lines;
    • During device operation, ink blots appear on the leaves;
    • One or more colors are missing when printing a check template;
    • Horizontal streaks appear on the paper when taking photographs and other color images.

    Poor print quality

    The considered defects are typical for different device models, for example, Epson, HP, Samsung, Canon. When it does not help to get rid of an unpleasant phenomenon, then it will be necessary to clean the device cartridges. There are several reasons why you need to do this regularly:

    • During downtime, it may happen that dried paint is in the nozzles, and it will need to be removed to remove blockages;
    • Dust from the air settles inside the printer, especially on units covered with ink. printheads, cartridges.

    For laser devices, clean up when replacing toner. At the same time, old paint and other contaminants are removed from the cartridge. The work is carried out using napkins, cloth or lint-free brush. It is important that the electrical contacts remain clean. Work is performed according to certain algorithms and does NOT require special skills.

    Software cleaning

    Many inkjet machines are equipped with built-in automatic cleaning programs. To carry it out, proceed as follows:

    • Open the control panel;
    • Go to the settings of the printing equipment;
    • There they select the required section. “Tools and cleaning the cartridge”;
    • Make a test printout of a blank sheet.

    If there is no function, then you can download the program from a disk or the Internet and install it. Then, in the print settings, select the “Maintenance of printers” section, then you need to open the print settings, start cleaning. In this case, you should follow the instructions of the program. Most often, the procedure must be performed repeatedly.

    When the software method did not help, then you can get rid of the problem in several other ways. For different models of inkjet technology, the algorithms are the same, only the way to access the cartridges is different. This may require a set of screwdrivers with different attachments.

    The scheme of work, regardless of the chosen cleaning method, is as follows:

    • Removing the cartridge
    • Soaking;
    • Flushing;
    • Drying;
    • Refueling;
    • Installation in printer
    • Course printout.

    Cleaning with detergent

    To implement the cold method, you will need to stock up on such available tools and materials:

    • Rubber gloves (medical)
    • Syringe;
    • Napkins (cloth) made of paper or cotton;
    • Clean water;
    • Pipette;
    • Special glass cleaner containing isopropyl alcohol or ethylene glycol.

    The whole process takes place in the following sequence:

    • Remove the cartridge from the printer;
    • Position it nozzles up (on a specially lined fabric)
    • The cleaning liquid is applied to them in a few drops using a pipette;
    • Wait about 10 minutes;
    • Then the nozzles get wet with a napkin, wipe them dry with a cotton cloth.

    Removal may require a screwdriver, depending on the model of the device used.

    The manipulations discussed above are not always enough. If the nozzles remain clogged, then the operation continues:

    • Take a small container;
    • Fill it with cleaning liquid, pour in approximately 3 mm layer;
    • Immersed in the nozzle;
    • Keep them in liquid for 3 hours,
    • Take out and wipe dry.

    After wiping the cartridge nozzles in the working position with a cloth, an ink mark should remain on it, which is a characteristic result of complete cleaning. As a container for the detergent composition, an ordinary plastic lid from under a can is suitable.

    Manual injection

    In order for the ink from the cartridge to get onto the paper, a set of certain mechanisms is used inside. The design is such that it is possible to manually push a certain amount of ink, which will allow you to clean the nozzles. There are 2 ways in total.

    Method 1 (hard)

    This method requires a regular syringe.

    • Find a small hole on the back of the cartridge. It acts as an air intake. It is necessary to insert a needle into it, put on an empty syringe. You need to insert just enough so that it rests. The part of the needle remaining outside should be measured.
    • Here is the end of the needle, cut off the amount that does not fit. Next, you need to take a small piece of rubber material and put it on the base of the needle. It will serve as a gasket and will not allow unnecessary physical impact on the plastic, which can lead to breakage.
    • Place the paper cartridge with the nozzles down. It will absorb any dye that should drip during cleaning. Reinsert the syringe, but with air, and slowly squeeze it out until drops appear on the nozzles.

    Now it remains to remove the allocated ink, and you can start printing.

    Method 2 (simple)

    To clean the cartridge using this method, you will need a rubber pad, which can be included in its kit (not all models have it). If it is provided by the manufacturer, then the sequence of actions is as follows.

    • The cover has a hole. You need to insert a syringe into it without a needle.
    • Now, with the syringe installed, it is placed on the cartridge.
    • Holding the hopper with paint on the table, and pressed the pad (it creates a kind of vacuum), you need to pull the syringe plunger towards you, pulling the ink out of the hole.

    This completes the cleaning process. All that remains is to make sure the ink does NOT leak. If there are any residues on the injectors, then they are simply removed.

    Prevention of malfunctions

    Any technique requires proper maintenance and operation, which helps to avoid many problems. For the printer to serve for a long time and without interruption, it is enough to follow these recommendations.

    • The area where the printing equipment is located should be kept clean. Wet weekly cleaning is essential as dust is the printer’s or all-in-one printer’s worst enemy.
    • Once a month, it is worth carefully cleaning the printer with a vacuum cleaner. This will collect dust and ink particles (in laser printers). Places wet from paint should be removed with a cloth.
    • Each printer has a software method for cleaning the printer head. How to start it can be found in the instructions for the device. This cleaning should be regular.
    • If the printer is in color, and most often only black text is printed, then it is worth conducting a test color print once a week. Otherwise, paint may dry out and clog the nozzles.
    • When refueling laser printers, experts recommend cleaning the waste ink hopper regardless of its fill level.

    When cleaning the cartridge, it is NOT required to do any complicated manipulations, but the procedure itself is quite laborious. The easiest option for independent work is to use the Special built-in programs. If none of the considered methods will lead to the desired result, then it is necessary to remove the contamination from the components of the technique involved in printing.
