How to clean a Canon, HP, Lexmark (and similar) printer cartridge?

  • Run head cleaning, print some high-density images, then let the printer stand for 10-15 minutes.
  • Do a nozzle test. If the printer prints the template as expected, go to the next step. Otherwise, repeat the cleaning of the steam generator after 30-60 minutes and return again to this point. But if after 3-5 cleanings there are no improvements, go to more complex cleaning methods.
  • Pour the cleaning liquid out of the cartridge, and immediately refill with ink without drying out. If you want to rinse the cartridges (this is not necessary, the cleaning liquid from the walls will simply dilute the ink a little), then you can rinse with distilled water, then blow everything with air and dry it. Attention: At this stage, you can take a second syringe and first pump out the remaining ink from the PG.

  • pump in a little cleaning agent (just a little), just do not press hard, otherwise you run the risk of flooding the SG contacts;

Important: When detaching the tube from the fine filter, be sure to squeeze it firmly with your fingers to prevent liquid or ink from leaking onto the print head.

  • carry out this operation with each fine filter;
  • reassemble the printer and perform software cleaning of the print head.

To verify the result of the work done, complete the procedure with a nozzle test. If it does not help, but shifts in the positive direction are visible, try flushing the Epson print head again. Attention: We do not recommend removing a thin long train. It is very difficult to install it back, even complete disassembly of the printer does not always help.

  • the screws that hold the printhead in the printer carriage are unscrewed (usually only three screws);

Then the print head can be flushed in a variety of ways. The first, the most popular, consists of the usual pumping of cleaning fluid:

  • Take two syringes and put small pieces of the medical dropper tube on them;

Important: When disconnecting the tube from the fine filter, be sure to squeeze it tightly with your fingers so that liquid does not leak and flood the print head.

  • fill the second syringe with a cleaning agent, connect its tube to the filter and distill the liquid through the print head (this must be done over a container);

Caution: When distilling the cleaning agent, do not press hard on the syringe plunger, so as not to create excessive pressure and depressurize the print head.

  • perform the procedure until gaps no longer appear on the wall of the flushing liquid coming out of the print head nozzles;
  • reassemble the printer in the reverse order, do a deep cleaning of the PG, and perform a nozzle test.

If the nozzle test is successful, you can safely send the printer to work. If there are minor problems, try cleaning the mouth guard, parking, pump and diaper of your Epson printer. In turn, if the clogging is too strong (this will still be revealed at the stage of washing the print head), then you need to resort to the second method:

  • Pour a little cleaning liquid into a small container with a flat bottom (literally a millimeter);
  • place the print head there;
  • connect the syringe to the fine filter;
  • pull the syringe plunger towards you and try to push the liquid through the nozzles of the head.

If the liquid starts to move, this indicates that some nozzles have been cleared of dirt. Now you can try to combine the procedure with the previous method, or pour the cleaning agent into the container again, put the steam generator there and leave it for several hours (you can overnight). After some time, you need to repeat the procedure for flushing the print head.

Please note: If nozzles of only one color are clogged, then you can make a so-called “sandwich”, only the other way around. Turn the printhead over, nozzles up. Cut a piece of napkin slightly smaller than the base of the printhead. Moisten it with a cleaning agent and apply to the nozzles that could not be pierced by other methods. Leave it like this for a while. Then try again to flush the print head of the Epson printer.

In general, the process of flushing the print head can take from one hour to two weeks (depending on the degree of clogging). If, in the end, it was not possible to pierce the nozzles of a certain color, you can try to completely disassemble the Epson printhead and clean each part separately. However, this method should only be used as a last resort.

It is worth noting that the method of cleaning the Epson PG, separated from the printer, is the most effective, since it allows you to visually assess the condition of the print head, as well as to additionally identify other dirty areas of the printer. How to dry the Epson print head

When flushing the print head of an Epson inkjet printer, a situation may arise where liquid spills onto the contacts or the print head IC. Place a piece of cotton wool between the fine filters so that the escaping drops of ink or liquid do not spread over the entire plane of the print head. When disconnecting the syringe tube from the filter, remember to pinch it so that the contents do not spill. Also, when soaking the print head nozzles, do not use a large amount of cleaning agent; a couple of millimeters will suffice. Also, never use an Epson ultrasonic printhead cleaning.
