Attention

Canon expects the user to replace the cartridge by using up the ink cartridge. Accordingly, the print head (PG) in Canon PG-445 is not durable. The resource of the head can be enough for 2-7 refills (depending on the quality of operation), then the nozzles of some colors begin to burn out or the electronics are completely out of order. In some cases, with a careful attitude, the inkwell can withstand 20-30 refills. In order to extend the life of the steam generator, do not allow the cartridge to dry out and empty, refuel it on time. at the level of 10%.30% (a completely empty cartridge may start to print imperfectly after the first refueling).

Instructions for refilling cartridges for the printer Canon PIXMA-MG2540

Canon PIXMA-MG2540 belongs to the budget class of the printer and MFP, with built-in printheads (hereinafter PG) in the cartridge. When users purchase printing devices at a relatively low price, after using up ink, they learn about the cost of new consumables and think about how to save on printing. One of the ways not to waste extra money is refilling Canon MG2540 cartridges at home.

The printer contains two ink cartridges, black and color Canon PG-445 and CL-446 ink cartridges. Using their example, we will show you how to refuel the Canon PIXMA-MG2540 printer yourself. For a successful refueling result, you need to make sure that the cartridges are working properly. The most common problems are a dry print head or an electronics failure. In the first case, it is necessary to clean the steam generator with a special flushing liquid, and in the second case, you need to buy a new one.
Refilling a Canon MG2540 cartridge with your own hands is not a complicated process, below we will show how this can be done. In a black cartridge, insert the needle through a single hole. In the color position of the colors in the cartridge you can see below, just as if you make a print on a sheet, then the color in the middle of the print is always at the top, and the colors on the left and right of the print are respectively of the print. (Figure 2)

  • We start refueling Canon MG2540 cartridges, we collect paint in the syringes, it is better to take 4 syringes and fill them with ink (Black, Magenta, Yellow, Cyan), you can use insulin 1 ml. or, as in our case, 10-20 ml. syringes.
  • Carefully remove the stickers from the top, if you have not done so before.
  • If you use insulin syringes, the needle can go into the factory hole for refueling, if you use others, then a 4-mm needle is needed. drill or utility knife to widen the hole.
  • We insert the needle of the syringe into the filling hole. It is not necessary to enter deeply, 10-15 mm is enough. (Figure 3)
  • Slowly inject ink until ink appears in the filling port, approximately 8 ml is needed. for black and 9 ml. (3 ml. in each color) for color, then pump the excess ink back into the syringe, it is always better not to add ink than to pour it over.
  • We fill in all colors and clean the surface of ink with a dry napkin.
  • Stick the labels in place (If necessary, it is possible to use an adhesive tape).
  • We make an imprint of the printheads on the sheet, they should be clear.
  • We install the refilled cartridges in the printer, we do the cleaning of the steam generator.
  • Pay attention to the contacts (Figure 4), they must be dry, if you install consumables with wet contacts in the printer, your electronics will burn out.
  • If you are refueling for the first time, then you need to cancel the tracking of consumables, to do this, press and hold the Cancel button (Red X or Triangle) on the printer for 15 seconds. After canceling tracking, your printing device will signal that the ink has run out, but it will print.

Choosing printer ink

How to choose paint for your Canon peripherals? First you need to decide on its purpose. If the printer is needed for the production of advertisements or signs that will be located in a place unprotected from weather conditions, then the most acceptable option would be pigment-type ink. Of course, they do not have an increased degree of brightness and saturation, but they are durable, do not fade due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation and dry quickly. The latter advantage can lead to printhead clogging.

Water-based ink for Canon inkjet printers is used for everyday purposes (printing documents or photographs). The resulting image has:

Water-based inks are used to print on a variety of paper types and sizes. But there are also some complications. First, water-based paint takes longer to dry completely than pigment paint. Secondly, it is powerless against ultraviolet radiation and high humidity.

Today, there are many manufacturers of inkjet ink. The difficulty is that each of them focuses on a certain modification of the peripheral device.

It is possible to find a suitable ink for Canon among InkTec or OCP products, and you must take into account the model of the inkjet printer. Correctly selected ink will guarantee trouble-free and high-quality printing, as well as contribute to longer printer life.

How to choose ink for a Canon printer and refill the cartridge

PC users need additional devices such as a printer. It is difficult to exaggerate the significance of the latter. The presence of such peripheral equipment at home imposes responsibility for its condition. The printer must be regularly refilled and cleaned of ink blockages.

Ink for Canon Pixma printer, MG2440

Canon’s inkjet peripheral equipment line includes models with a variety of feature sets. For example, there is Canon Pixma MG2540S, MP250, MG3640, MG2440 MFP, which are simultaneously used as a copier, scanner and printer.

Ink for Canon Pixma MG2540S printer: ink from OCP and Pushkink. Canon Pixma MP250 owner can choose CMYK CAN100, InkTec or WWM C11M. For the Canon Pixma MG3640 printer, you will need a set (4 colors) InkTec C5040-C5041, Super Fine SF-InkCanon100c. Ink for Canon MG2440 printer: OCP and InkTec C5040-C5041. When choosing ink, you need to focus not only on the brand and model of the printer. The type of cartridge matters.

Refilling an inkjet printer

Canon inkjet printers are quite popular among PC peripheral users. This is due to their low cost and widespread availability. But cartridge maintenance is quite expensive.

Therefore, many, instead of buying expensive original parts, prefer to reduce the cost of the printing process by refilling the cartridge with cheap ink. Unfortunately, this often leads to dire consequences. For example, printer malfunctions or poorly printed documents and photos.

The trade-off for cost and quality at the same time is to purchase the right ink or install a continuous ink supply system in a peripheral. Both will pay off in a short time.

In order to refill ink into a Canon printer, you need to prepare ink, a syringe and a needle. Next, you need to follow the instructions:

  • Preparation of the workplace. The surface on which the cartridge will be refilled must be covered with newspapers to avoid ink ingress. It is quite difficult to get rid of it later.
  • Removing the cartridge. Once the OS is fully loaded, you need to start the peripheral device. Then you need to open its cover, wait until the carriage and the printheads attached to it stop, pull out the ink device. To do this, you need to pull it slightly towards yourself.
  • Ink input. In a syringe (its volume does not matter) we collect 5-10 ml of paint. It directly depends on the volume of the cartridge. It should be turned over to the side where the printheads are. A needle is attached to the syringe, after which it is inserted into each of them with gentle smooth movements. Color printer fills with ink of multiple colors.
  • Reinstalling the cartridge. The part must be placed in the socket and pressed slightly. A click will indicate that the cartridge is fully seated. All that remains is to close the printer cover. All stages of refilling the cartridge are shown in the photo.

The ink counters in Canon printers are updated using a special program. The ink level sensor will reset its readings and promptly notify the user about the need to refill or change the cartridge.

Reset counter Canon Pixma MG2540S, MG2440

How to refill the Canon printer figured out, but what if after zeroing the device does not print? There may be several reasons:

Poor quality ink. If they are not original or incorrectly selected, then problems with the Canon MG2440 printer cannot be avoided. In this case, the situation can be corrected only by refueling the device again.

The counter was reset incorrectly. You can do it again:

  • by pressing the button of the control system (it shows a red triangle);
  • by installing General Tools (utility for resetting the counter);
  • by zeroing the sensor again.

The chips of the CISS cartridges are out of order. In this situation, only their replacement will bring a positive effect.

How to refill original cartridges Canon PG-445 CL-446, printers Canon PIXMA iP2840, MG2440, MG2540, MG2940, MX494

In this manual we will try to explain how to refill Canon PG-445 CL-446 cartridges,
These cartridges are used in Canon PIXMA iP2840, MG2440, MG2540, MG2940, MX494 printers

To refill these cartridges, you can use the following inks, it is also advisable to use the OCP RSL flushing fluid when refilling the cartridges

Before refueling, after you have just removed the cartridge from the printer, you need to prepare it for refueling and remove the sticker from it, which is located at the top of the cartridge.

After the stickers are removed from the cartridges, you can see the system of air channels and air holes through which we will refill the cartridges. You should not try to push the needle into these holes as it is, if you do this, the needle will go very tightly and pressure will build up in the cartridge during refueling, while ink will flow out of the print head. Therefore, before refueling, the air holes must be widened with a drill or awl. Drills 1.5-2mm are perfect, after you have drilled the hole, you can start refueling. On the starter black cartridge that you got with the printer, the air hole is located in this place

For drilling, I personally prefer to use a screwdriver with a 2mm drill bit

Likewise, you need to drill 3 holes in the color cartridge, then you can start refueling. The colors in the color cartridge are arranged as follows

After everything is prepared, we need to draw ink into the syringes for refueling. For a color cartridge, we only need 3ml of each color, for a black cartridge. 8ml. There is a sponge inside the cartridges, so do not be afraid that plastic crumbs will get inside the cartridge when drilling, when refueling, you need to pierce this sponge by about 1 cm, you will immediately feel it when you lower the needle into the cartridge.

After you have refilled the cartridges, you can stick the sticker in place

Before installing pre-filled cartridges into the printer, it is advisable to clean the print head of the cartridge using the OCP RSL flushing fluid, for this, turn the cartridge with the print head up and pour a little flushing fluid on it.

Then attach a folded toilet paper or napkin on top

Wait a while until the flushing liquid and ink from the print head are absorbed into it and wipe the print head

Well, that’s all, the print head is cleaned, the cartridge is refilled and ready for further use.

Also, after refueling, there are problems of the following nature. It would seem that we have refilled the cartridge, and the printer displays a message that the cartridge is out and refuses to print, and does not even pick up paper. No need to be scared, this is normal! Luckily, ink tracking can be turned off in Canon printers, and it’s easy enough! To do this, you need to hold down the STOP button on which a “triangle in a circle” is drawn and hold it for about 30 seconds after that the printer will stop swearing at the exhausted cartridge and continue printing. On all Canon printers, this button looks something like this

Canon pixma mg2540s printer printhead alignment

When you notice that the printer does not print very straight lines, or you are not happy with the print result for other reasons, you need to adjust the position of the print head.

Many people are probably familiar with the fact that when the ink is at a high level, the alignment pattern at the printheads may not print correctly. You can replace the cartridge with a new one that has a lower ink level. It is recommended that you calibrate the printheads to a new level of the printer before you start using it, as this will help you adjust the position of the printer after the installation is complete. During use, there is a possibility that the carriage will move, so you need to carelessly rearrange the printer and transport it to a new location.
Slowly synchronization may fail if the operation is longer than normal. On print, this appears to be a displacement of the text, mainly in the horizontal direction, and this will naturally be immediately visible, especially in the vertical directions of the table.

The encoder tape or positioning tape and the corresponding sensor are responsible for the position of the carriage during printing. The positioning tape is a transparent strip with lines printed on it, similar to the marks on a school ruler. When the carriage moves, the sensor located on it reads the markings on the tape, and the PG “knows where to print. If at least one of the divisions is smeared with ink or grease, the sensor does not see it and the carriage moves in the horizontal direction more than necessary.
