How to Refill HP 123 Printer Cartridge

Refilling HP inkjet cartridges

First, let’s write general recommendations:

When refueling the cartridge, pay attention to its integrity, whether there are cracks and whether the conductive flex board is intact.

It is optimal to refuel immediately after the end of the ink in the cartridge, otherwise the cartridge will have to undergo a long cleaning process, which does not always give a positive result.

Do not leave the cartridge in the open air without a special container or bag (the main thing is that the bag does not touch the nozzles of the cartridge), otherwise the nozzles may dry out and then read point 2.

To refill, use the ink indicated on the cartridge. Or ask your ink dealer which ink is right for you.

Prepare your workplace. If this is your first gas station in your life, then it is best to do it on thick newspaper and if you have rubber gloves, do not be too lazy to put them on. Some inks are corrosive and will permanently imprint on your skin. Although you can wash them. If you have a container for carrying the cartridge, then you are in luck. it is a little more convenient with it. Buy a disposable 10-20ml syringe.

In most cases, it is recommended to seal the cartridge nozzles with tape, but I will immediately make a note, the tape is not necessary, it will only save you from excessive ink leakage. If you take a very good (sticky) tape, you can tear it off, then together with the protective film of the contact group and of course the cartridge will be damaged, so we will leave the tape at your discretion. If there is a container, insert the cartridge there.

Now let’s start describing the filling process itself.

HP 711

HP Designjet T120, T520 plotters use HP 711 cartridges. Today I will try to teach you how to refill them.

Let’s start. Here’s our ink starvation patient.

Filling of the cartridge HP 711

As you can see in the photo, this cartridge has a rubberized flap on top. It is through him that we will carry out the refueling procedure.

For this we need an ordinary medical syringe, but here a problem arises, the size of the syringe nozzle is larger than the hole through which we were going to fill it! But do not despair, we will not abandon our attempts and slightly improving the design of the syringe. For this we need a regular cotton swab. Take a stick, cut it in half and insert the resulting tube into the syringe nozzle. This case is simple and difficult at the same time, in the process we recall an anecdote about a military man and a tube of toothpaste, because nothing is impossible and it is possible to cram something that is not pushed. We believe in you!

As a result, you should get this kind of syringe.

Preparing the syringe for refilling the HP 711 cartridge

The hardest part is over and the process is reaching the home stretch. We collect ink into the syringe and carefully insert it into the valve. And with reciprocating movements we start refueling. In simpler terms, we need to slightly press the syringe so that the ink enters the inside of the cartridge and immediately pull it back to release the air. The ink will flow into the cartridge, and the air will remain in the syringe itself. For clarity of the process, I recorded a short video that will show how this happens in practice. I advise you to use gloves as the ink is pigment and it is not washed well, it is NOT washed from clothes at all, so take action. Although, if you like us are a real Jedi.

Okay, jokes aside, watch the video and refuel. I shot with one hand, so I apologize for the quality of the shooting.

I advise you to pour about 30 ml of ink into it. Actually, that’s the whole procedure, if you have any questions, then welcome to the comments on this article or video.

All of these cartridges are of the foam type, the refilling process is quite simple:

Carefully peel off the sticker 2/3 of its length and fill in 10 ml of ink through any of the open holes with a syringe with a needle. Fill the HP132 cartridge only into the hole located directly above the cartridge nozzles into it only foam rubber in this part and its volume is only 6 ml, be careful because You could damage the cartridge.

Glue the sticker in its place (if it does NOT stick anymore, it’s okay, it is only decorative), place the cartridge on the napkin with the print head down for 5-10 minutes.

If the cartridge leaks it can be used. If the cartridge prints several lines, then we drive it a little or use a special cleaning utility available through the printer properties.

HP 22, HP 28, HP 57

Carefully peel off the sticker and through the opened holes with a syringe with a needle, pour 4-5 ml of ink of the corresponding color (see Photo). Be careful when pouring into the hole located directly above the cartridge nozzles as You could damage the cartridge.

Open the hole at the bottom of the cartridge. If it is covered with a ball, press on it until it falls inside. If with a rubber pin. pull out.

Load ink into the syringe if it was not in a special tube with a syringe tip. Typically, the cartridge fits from 25ml to 42ml.

Pour in through the hole you just opened with ink from a syringe.

Next, you need to seal the hole TIGHTLY. This can be done with a special rubber band or a ball from the kit, a self-tapping screw is also suitable, the main thing is that it tightly closes the hole. If there is nothing, you can seal it with tape, just before that, degrease the surface, I think you didn’t want to go over your printer later.

Place the cartridge on a stack of napkins and wait 5-10 minutes for the excess ink to drain and the pressure inside the cartridge returns to normal.

There are several refueling options. We offer you in our opinion the best.

Place the cartridge with the contact pad down and make 3 holes in it as shown in the photo. Holes can be made with a knife, drill, gimbal, awl.

Pour 6 ml of ink into the holes from a syringe with a needle (see the photo for the colors).

Cover the holes with tape or tape. For greater security, the edges of the holes can be greased with superglue.

If the cartridge leaks it can be used. If the cartridge prints several lines, then we drive it a little or use a special cleaning utility available through the printer properties.

HP 14, HP 20, HP 26, HP 29

Seal the holes on the bottom and top of the cartridge with tape. If there is a container, insert it there.

Open the hole in the corner of the cartridge cover. If it is covered with a ball, press on it until it falls inside. If with a rubber pin, pull it out. If there is no hole at all, then we take a drill.

1.5 mm and drill a hole, while it is necessary to do this with the lid down, so that no debris gets into the cartridge. Some refueling kits have a special grommet for THESE purposes.

Load ink into syringe

20-30ml, if they were not in a special tube with a spout like a syringe. Then, using a syringe, we pump ink into the prepared hole. Insert the needle not very deeply (no more than 1 cm), otherwise you will damage the cartridge.

Next, you need to TIGHTLY seal the corner hole. This can be done with a special rubber band from the kit. Some tighten the screw and fill it with glue. The easiest way is to glue it with tape, just before that, degrease the surface, I think you didn’t want to go over your printer later.

Remove the tape from the holes. Flip the cartridge upside down. Typically, the refueling kit includes a small enema for pumping air into plastic bags inside the cartridge, but go for a regular one. You need to pump a little air (5-10 ml) through the hole in the top cap. Usually you will see ink coming out of the bottom center hole, make 2-3 ducks. Turn the cartridge over, if ink leaks do a couple more strokes.

Shake the cartridge lightly, nozzles down. Just for heaven’s sake, over your trousers. If the ink flows like a river, then something is wrong. Did you do everything right? Leave two minutes of cartridge nozzles on the paper. If ink is leaking from them, then you are NOT pumping air. If everything is fine, wipe off any remaining ink from the nozzles with a tissue. Do NOT use alcohol to clean.

If the cartridge leaks it can be used. If the cartridge prints several lines, then we drive it a little or use a special cleaning utility available through the printer properties.

We separate the cover. This can be done with a knife along the seam, with a hammer (put the cartridge on the edge of the table), pliers. If the cover is badly damaged, it’s okay, it is decorative. Underneath you will see a transparent plastic divided into three compartments. Each compartment has a hole.

Take a syringe with a needle and pour 5-7ml of ink into the hole with the appropriate paint (see Photo). There is a sponge under the hole that will absorb the ink. If you see paint sticking out of the hole, stop, you’ve overdone it.

After you have filled in all the colors, you need to put the cover back. We usually stick it with tape.

If the cartridge leaks it can be used. If the cartridge prints several lines, then we drive it a little or use a special cleaning utility available through the printer properties.

Place the cartridge with the nozzle down (see photo).

Make a small hole in the top cover. The hole can be made with a knife, awl, thin screwdriver.

Fill the cartridge with ink of the corresponding color, black 15-25ml., Color 12ml.

Close the hole with tape or electrical tape, after degreasing the surface.

A chip is installed on cartridges of this type, unfortunately it cannot be reset to zero, but having two sets of cartridges you can refuel them one by one. The printer will swear at the warranty, but will print.

If the cartridge leaks it can be used. If the cartridge prints several lines, then we drive it a little or use a special cleaning utility available through the printer properties.

How to reset (reset) HP cartridges 121, 27, 28, 56, 57, 21, 22

Everyone knows that HP 27, 28, 56, 57, 21 and 22 cartridges can be refilled with a simple syringe or refill kit. At the same time, most users turn off Difficult over the ink level (usually, for this, it is enough to click “Continue” in the next printer messages about the empty cartridge) and print.

However, the ink tanks 21, 27, 28, 56, 57 can actually be simply reset to zero and the ink level will then be displayed. It is worth noting that in fact information about the level of filling of the cartridge is stored in the printer. It remembers how the last 4 installed cartridges were used by ID. identifier. At the same time, if you make the device believe that 4 different cartridges were installed in it one by one, it will “forget” the ID of your refueling of the cartridge and will perceive it as new.

Attention: if the device does NOT report an empty cartridge, but in case of a malfunction, zeroing will not help. Chances are, buying a new ink bottle will save you.

Way 1

So, placing the cartridge on the table with the print head facing you, contacts up.

The picture below shows the cartridge contacts. Cover the one shown in the figure in green with a piece of tape. Be careful, only one contact should be glued!
Insert the cartridge into the printer. Click “OK” in the message box that appears. Print an internal printer test and then remove the cartridge again.

Cover one more contact (any of the ones shown in the picture in blue, purple or red), without removing the tape from the first contact. Then insert the cartridge into the printer, click “OK” in the message box and print a test page. Then remove the cartridge again.

After that, remove the tape from the first sealed contact, insert the cartridge into the printer, and wait for it to recognize it. Then take it out, remove the tape from the second contact, wipe all contacts with alcohol and return the cartridge to its place.

For the printer, these manipulations will look like 4 different cartridges inserted in succession and it should recognize the cartridge as the 5th in a row and new (after all, information about its identifier will be lost). The ink level should be 100%.

Way 2

If nothing works, you can try the second method.

The sequence of actions at the beginning is the same as in the first method. Cover the contact marked in green, turn on the printer, print the test. The difference from the first method is that without removing the adhesive tape from the green contact, glue three more, marked in red in the figure, and insert the cartridge into the printer, print the test. Then peel off all the tape, wipe the contacts and insert the cartridge into the printer.

How to check if the printer sees a new cartridge ID

Let us remind you that for everything to work out, every time you install a cartridge with sealed contacts, the printer should see a new identifier. To check this, take a close look at the nozzle test.

In the last text line from the top (before the black bar), there are two “entries”: left and right. These are the cartridge IDs. Make sure they change after each re-sealing of contacts.

Reset counter on HP 121 cartridge

On the HP 121 cartridge, you can also simply trick the ink consumption counter. To do this, glue the upper left contact marked in the figure.

We insert the cartridge. We take out the paper from the receiving tray. Press simultaneously the I (Enable) and X (Cancel) buttons. The printer will try to print the report. But since there is paper, the paper out indicator will light up. Press the button (X) (cancel), the indicator “there is paper” will go out. Insert paper and send one letter to print.

After the cartridge is installed in the printer, it will be determined as 100% full. After the counter has lowered the ink level to zero, peel off the tape from the contact and the level will be 100% again. You can do this as many times as you like.

How to refill the HP printer cartridge yourself

Printer ink is one of the very expensive things that you will have to work with if you set up your home office. DO NOT be surprised by the following situation: you took dozens of pictures with your new digital camera, downloaded them to your computer, printed just a few, and soon the ink cartridge ran out. Their consumption is always very large, and nothing can be done about it.

This article provides instructions on how to refill your HP inkjet cartridge yourself instead of buying a new one. This can save you a pretty decent amount.

We buy materials. Preparation for the process

Place the purchased ink set, a roll of paper towels, and some clear tape on a large, flat work surface (table or board). Remove the empty cartridge from the product. Be sure to close the cover or fuse while you work with it.

Put on disposable rubber or plastic gloves before handling paint. Take a paper towel and fold it in half twice. Work constantly on a paper towel to avoid leaking ink onto the table. Place an empty cartridge on it.

Before refilling an HP print cartridge yourself, read the instruction manual that came with your ink kit to learn how to refill your specific capsule type. This article provides general instructions only.

Look for the refill holes on the top of the cartridge. You can feel this indentation by rubbing the label with your fingers. Some cartridges have multiple holes, but only one of them always leads to an ink reservoir that can be refilled. This hole will have a sponge in it.

Use a sharp pencil to pierce the refill hole at the top of the ink cartridge. Alternatively, you can remove the top label with a knife or screwdriver (see the user manual supplied with the kit for a diagram of these locations).

Typically, in addition to black, three ink colors are included: cyan, magenta red, and yellow. Follow the installation instructions using the insertion hole for each color, or push a toothpick into each hole to identify the colors. It also happens that the marking on the cartridge of the device is sometimes erroneous, and you can accidentally refill the wrong colors in the ink capsules. This happens when users are trying to refill a cartridge for the HP 650 printer by themselves (and similar models).

Filling process

Insert the long, needle-like end of the ink bottle into the correct hole deep enough to penetrate the bottom of the cartridge. It is important to do this in such a way that the air does not kick in and does NOT create foam when refilling the cartridge. An air will prevent ink from reaching the printheads, and the cartridge may NOT function.

To properly refill the HP 655 print cartridge yourself, add ink slowly and smoothly. Watch the filling process carefully so as not to overflow. Stop quickly as soon as you see some ink oozing out of the hole. DO NOT let go of the bottle, RELEASE the air slowly by squeezing some ink back out of the cartridge (before removing the needle completely).

How to refill an HP printer cartridge yourself: complete the process

Thoroughly wipe the cartridge contacts with a paper towel. You must completely eliminate dirt and drips on its surface.

Cover the hole with a small piece of clear tape. This works much better than the sealing points included in the prime kit. Make sure there is NO ink leaking from the top holes at all (this is what you need to use transparent tape for).

Checking the correct filling

Repeat all of the above steps for each ink color to fully prime the HP printer cartridge yourself. After you fill in all the colors, blot very well (do not wipe or press) the cartridge printhead with a folded piece of paper towel. This process will likely need to be repeated several times. Do this until the paint stops oozing, mixing and the towel pack. Stop this process only when you have 3 pure color traces.

If a paper towel shows discoloration or no ink is produced at all, blot the printhead with a wet cloth and then dry. Repeat this several times until ink starts to emit.

Install the cartridge into the printer. Remember that you should never, under any circumstances install a leaking cartridge.

Print Test Files immediately to make sure ink is emitting properly. We will print a small number of different pages, preferably photos with bright shades.

Useful Tips

DO NOT worry that you DO NOT test or inspect the Refueling Kit you have purchased. It is worth the effort and is unnecessary. If you ruin a cartridge by your own actions, you can always buy a new one. In any case, you should try to refill the cartridge for the HP printer yourself (122), as if the outcome is favorable, this will significantly reduce your costs.

After you refill the cartridge, it should weigh the same as new parts. Overcrowded in excess of the norm can fail much earlier than its term. These inkjet printer parts use sponges to store the ink, and when overfilled, you wet the top of the sponge causing ink to flow upward, away from the print port.

Another helpful tip

And, finally, you can use another method if everyone else has failed: find a used or simpler printer for sale for less than a new cartridge. It comes with one new cartridge (or two: black and color). If you manage to do this, you will have a new device with 1 or 2 cartridges for less than the cost of one new PARTS. Printer companies often sell them inexpensively, planning to profit from future cartridge purchases is a well-known marketing ploy. Use them to use up ink, and then look again at what is more profitable to buy.

Ink must NOT thicken and dry

DO NOT let your ink cartridge dry out. Check and replenish it periodically to keep it in working order. Try NOT to leave it unused for very long. Print something at least once a week. This will help the product last longer, even if you have to refill the HP printer cartridge (178) earlier.

As a last resort to buying a new cartridge, you can always try to revive the old one. Take a clean syringe, remove the plunger and insert the syringe into the cartridge. Place the open top of the syringe over your mouth and blow hard enough. This can help push poor quality or thick ink to the printhead. Be careful NOT to allow ink bubbles to form at the top of the cartridge. Then blot the end of the cartridge nozzle with a paper towel. Repeat as needed several times. This method can enhance the convenience and ease of use of refilled cartridges.

If ink still does not come out of the cartridge during printing, use a syringe to inject one or two small drops of a special solution (a mixture of ammonia and distilled water in equal parts) deep down into the cartridge. This will help dissolve the formed ink clot.

Finishing touch

If only one of the colors is difficult after installing the cartridge, remove it from the printer and recheck the tape covering the fill holes. Pick it up and stop, while straightening a strip of duct tape.

After refilling the printer cartridge, the print head will gradually wear out. As a rule, this procedure can be repeated NOT more than 10 times.

How to refill a cartridge for an HP printer?

Despite the fact that modern technology is simple to operate, it is necessary to know certain features of the equipment. Otherwise, the equipment will malfunction, which will lead to breakdown. Products of the Hewlett-Packard trademark are in great demand. In this article we will tell you how to correctly replace cartridges in printers from the above manufacturer.

How to take out?

The popular manufacturer Hewlett-Packard (HP) produces two types of office equipment: laser and inkjet models. Both options are in high demand. Each of them has certain advantages and disadvantages, which is why equipment of various types remains relevant. To safely remove the cartridge from the machine, you need to know how it works. The workflow depends on the type of printer.

READ  How To Delete A Print Queue On A Printer

Laser technology

Office equipment of this type works on cartridges filled with toner. It is a consumable powder. It should be noted that the consumable is harmful to the health of people and animals, therefore, when using the printer, it is recommended to ventilate the room, and the refueling process itself is carried out by professionals and in special conditions.

The work is carried out according to the following scheme.

  • First, the equipment must be disconnected from the mains. If the machine has recently worked load until it cools down completely. The room where the equipment is installed should have optimal humidity and temperature. Otherwise, the powder paint can get lost in a lump and completely deteriorate.
  • The top cover must be carefully removed.
  • If done correctly, the cartridge will be visible. It must be carefully taken in hand and pulled towards you.
  • At the slightest resistance, you must carefully inspect the compartment for the presence of foreign objects. If you cannot reach the cartridge, you must remove the special securing latch. It is located on both sides of the cartridge.

Note: if you are going to carry a consumable, it must be packed in a tight package and sent to a dark box or separate box. When reusing an removed cartridge, it is important to be as careful as possible and grasp the edges of the cartridge when removing it. It is recommended to protect your hands with gloves.

Inkjet equipment

Printers of this type are often chosen for home use due to their more affordable cost.

Now let’s move on to the procedure itself.

  • Be sure to unplug the printer and wait until the equipment stops completely. It is advisable to let it cool completely.
  • Open the top cover of the printer carefully following the instructions for use (some manufacturers provide user tips on the cabinet). The process depends on the specifics of the model. Some printers are equipped with a separate button for this.
  • Once the cover is open, you can remove the cartridges. By gently pressing until clicking, the consumable must be taken by the edges and removed from the container. If there is a holder, it must be lifted up.
  • Do not touch the bottom of the cartridge when removing. A special element is placed there, which is easy to break even with the slightest pressure.

As soon as the old elements are removed, you can start installing the new ones. You just need to insert them into the tray and gently press on each cartridge until it clicks. Now you can lower the holder, close the lid and use the equipment again.

How to refuel?

You can refill the cartridge for the HP printer yourself. This procedure has certain features, which must be familiarized with before starting work. Self-refilling is much more profitable than replacing old cartridges with new ones, especially when it comes to color equipment. Consider the scheme of refueling consumables for an inkjet printer.

To refill the cartridges, you will need:

  • Suitable ink;
  • Empty paint containers or cartridges that need to be refilled;
  • A medical syringe, its optimal volume is from 5 to 10 millimeters;
  • Thick rubber gloves;
  • Napkins.

Having collected everything you need, you can start refueling.

  • New cartridges must be placed on the table, nozzles down. Find the protective sticker on them and remove it. There are 5 holes under it, but only one, central.
  • The next step is to draw ink into the syringe. Make sure the paint is compatible with your equipment. When using new containers, one container will require 5 milliliters of ink.
  • The needle must be inserted carefully and strictly vertically so as not to break. There will be little resistance in the process, this is normal. As soon as the needle hits the filter located at the bottom of the cartridge, you need to stop. Otherwise, this element may be damaged. Lift the needle up slightly and continue inserting it.
  • Now you can start injecting the pigment. It is recommended to do the job slowly. Once the ink is poured from the syringe into the container, you can remove the needle from the cartridge.
  • The holes on the printing element must be re-covered with a protective sticker.
  • The refilled cartridge must be placed on a damp or thick dry cloth and left for about 10 minutes. Wipe the print surface gently with a piece of soft cloth. This completes the work. The ink container can be inserted into the printer.

The process of refilling laser equipment cartridges is complicated and hazardous to health, therefore it is highly discouraged to carry it out at home. To charge the cartridges with toner, you need special equipment. It is better to contact specialists.

How to replace correctly?

It is necessary not only to remove the cartridge correctly, but also to supply a new printing element yourself. Installation Will take just a few minutes. Most models from Hewlett-Packard use removable ink cartridges that can be purchased separately.

Installing Paper in the Printer

The official manual from the above manufacturer states that before installing a new cartridge, you must insert paper into the Corresponding Tray. This feature is due to the fact that it is impossible not only to change the containers with paint, but also to align the paper, immediately proceeded to print.

The work is done like this:

  • Open the printer cover;
  • Then you need to open the receiving tray;
  • The mount that is used to fix the paper should be pushed back;
  • Several sheets of standard A4 size must be installed in the paper tray;
  • Fasten the sheets, but do not clamp them too tightly so that the paper pick-up roller can rotate freely;
  • This completes the work with the first type of consumables.

Cartridge installation

Before purchasing a cartridge, be sure to check if it is suitable for a specific equipment model. Find the information you need in the instruction manual. Also, the necessary information is indicated on the official website of the manufacturer.

With the right accessories, you can get started.

  • To get to the desired holder, you need to open the side of the printer.
  • If an old consumable is installed in the device, it must be removed.
  • Remove the new cartridge from the packaging. Remove the protective stickers that cover the contacts and nozzles.
  • Install new parts, placing each cartridge in its place. A click will indicate that the containers are placed correctly.
  • Use this diagram to install the rest of the consumables.
  • Before starting the equipment, it is recommended to perform a calibration, run the function “Print a test page”.

Alignment

In some cases, the equipment may not correctly perceive new cartridges, for example, incorrectly determine the color. In this case, you need to align.

The procedure is as follows.

  • The printing equipment must be connected to the PC, plugged into the network and started.
  • Next, you need to go to the “Control Panel”. You can find the corresponding section by clicking the “Start” button. You can also use the search box on your computer.
  • Find the section titled “Devices and Printers”. Having opened this category, you must select the equipment model.
  • Right-click on the model and select “Printing Preferences”.
  • The user will see a tab called “Services”.
  • Find a feature called “Align Cartridges”.
  • The program will open an instruction with which you can set up office equipment. After the end of the work, it is recommended to reconnect the equipment, start it up and use it as intended.

Possible problems

Users may experience some problems when replacing cartridges.

  • If the printer indicates that the Installed Cartridge is empty, you need to make sure it is seated securely in the tray. Open the printer device and check.
  • Reinstalling the driver will help solve the problem when the computer does not see or does not recognize office equipment. If there have been no updates for a long time, it is recommended to reinstall the software.
  • If streaks appear on the paper during printing, the cartridges may be leaking. Also, the reason may be clogged nozzles. In this case, you will have to hand over the equipment to the service center.
