How to remove an HP Laserjet cartridge

Filling of the cartridge HP 17A (CF217A) for printers Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Pro M102, M130

HP 17A toner cartridge is used in Hewlett-Packard LaserJet Pro M102a, M102w, M130a, M130fw, M130fn, M130nw printers. In this series of printers, the consumables are divided into two parts. the HP CF219A drum cartridge and the HP CF217A toner cartridge. A drum cartridge (aka. Photodrum) contains an optical element. a photocylinder, and the cartridge is a container for powder. toner. The cartridge has a print yield of 1,600 pages and a drum cartridge. 12,000r. On the Ukrainian market, printing equipment, separate consumables can be found in Brother, Kyocera, Epson, OKI, Panasonic equipment.

The Hewlett-Packard Pro M102 series and all-in-one printer Pro M130 series are compact home or small office machines with a workflow of 1,500 pages per month (3 reams of paper).

CF217A Toner Cartridge and CF219A Drum Cartridge Powered by JetIntelligence, a range of print technologies including Anti-Counterfeiting Technology, Automatic Seal Removal Technology, Cartridge Authentication Technology, innovative Precision Black chemical toner and ColorSphere 3 sec. Lower melting point, Print Gauge technology with accurate resource estimation and cartridge life prediction.

However, HP 17A cartridges can be refilled. And for those who are NOT used to giving up easily, this instruction may well be useful.

This manual uses an original cartridge manufactured by Hewlett-Packard. Non-original toner cartridges (third party cartridges, such as BASF, Printalist CF217A-PL, DAYTON, PATRON HP-CF217A-PN-GL, NewTone NT-KT-CF217A, Static Control 01-SF217A, TenderLine TL-CF217A.) May differ in structure and be easier to disassemble.

remove, laserjet, cartridge

The cartridge must be removed from the printer first, and then the drum cartridge. Only in this order. The CF217A toner cartridge will be removed from the printer much more frequently than the CF219A drum cartridge as it has a 12,000 page yield. Note also that the printer must be turned on in order to get the cartridge, otherwise you will have to manually release the latches in the printer.

If you just bought a printer, just unpack it, do not rush to get the cartridges out of it. Turn on the power first and allow the machine to be ready, and then examine the consumables. In case of emergency, in the P.S. See information on how to remove the cartridge for the first time from the printer while the printer is off.

So, we will refuel the cartridge, that is, the element on which the inscription “17A”.

First of all, you need to remove the side cover from the gear side. In addition to the two screws that need to be unscrewed, the side cover is attached to the cartridge body with an inner rod.

The rod is plastic, it must be carefully broken. In the photo below, the attachment points on the inside of the already removed side cover and the side base of the cartridge are circled in red.

Now back to the still NOT disassembled cartridge. Using a flat screwdriver, you can pry off the side cover at the junction, near the edge of the metering blade and gently slide the cover, Using the screwdriver as a lever, to a characteristic click.

It is important to evenly distribute the force so as not to break anything unnecessary except for the connecting rod of the side cover.

Then you need to remove the magnetic shaft from the seat. The base of the magnetic roller on the side of the opposite side cover is pushed onto the bushing, therefore, using a knife blade, gently slide the base of the magnetic roller to the side, and then removing the shaft from the seat.

The HP 17A magnetic roller is more than just a metal sheath with a core. It is a metal shell with an outer sheath of a soft material that feels like a cross between rubber and rubber to the touch. Visually, this coating appears to be “rubberized”, although not as durable as in Samsung / Xerox roller developers. This coating is so sensitive to mechanical stress that it can be damaged in your hands if you press it carelessly. Therefore, we recommend that you do not handle or wipe the ego with anything. Remaining toner will easily crumble when you pull the magnetic core out.

There is a really magnetic core inside the metal shell:

After the magnetic roller the metering blade can be removed by unscrewing the screws on the sides. Please note that the thread in the screws is versatile. One screw with a right-hand thread, the other with a left-hand thread. The photo shows the direction when loosening the screws.

The dispensing blade in the HP 17A cartridge is metallic, not the silicone blade found in previous HP cartridges. It has a special specific shape of the edge, with a biconvex groove along its entire length. The HP 17A metering blades in our range do not have this groove.

Under the dispensing blade in the niche of the toner hopper there is a seal in the form of a curtain with a toner stirrer function. This is a modified receipt that is located inside the hopper in JetIntelligence cartridges, and not outside as in previous generations of Hewlett-Packard / Canon cartridges. If the shutter is blocking access to the compartment, it can be moved by rotating the side gears. We do not recommend getting rid of the shutter as it mixes toner by transporting it to the magnetic roller.

After refilling the cartridge, you can start assembling it.

When installing the metering blade, we recommend setting the hole level to 0.8. 1 mm, which will allow the toner to be evenly distributed over the surface of the magnetic roller.

The cavity of the shell of the magnetic shaft can be lubricated with conductive grease before installing it in its seat. It is sufficient to lubricate only the edge of the shell, not the entire cavity. You need to apply very little lubricant, without excess.

The magnetic shaft rod has a truncated shape on one side:

With this truncation, you must first get inside the bushing of the side cover, and only then push the shell of the magnetic shaft onto the bushing until it stops.

After installing the magnetic roller, you can put on the side cover and fix it with screws. The shank of the shaft shell also has a truncation, which must match the internal truncation of the shaft drive gear.

After assembling the cartridge, you can check that the toner is evenly applied to the surface of the magnetic roller. To do this, you need to scroll it by hand, rotating the magnetic shaft drive gear. If the toner layer is even, then everything was done correctly. Pay attention, do not rotate the shaft, touching its “rubberized” surface. You can only rotate the gear, and the opposite end of the magnetic shaft can only be held by its metal part, but not “rubberized”.

Now you need to replace the HP 17A chip with a new one. Pressed on the barrage, just slide the chip outward.

That’s all. Refills cartridge and ready to go.

P.S.

As promised, we show the first removal of the cartridge from the turned off printer. We remind you that you can do without this if you turn on the power of the printer. But if force majeure happened, if you bought a printer, unpacked it, and you were suddenly disconnected from the power, and out of boredom you hunt for cartridges to admire, then you will receive recommendations on this.

Under the clamps on both sides there are small bumps (circled in the photo below), which need to be slightly passed in the direction of the printer, towards the cartridges. Then the springs will set the latches in motion, and you will hear characteristic clicks. The clips will bounce off and the cartridges can be removed.

    Replacing ink cartridges in an HP printer

    Before removing the cartridge from the printer, you should turn on the device and open its cover to gain access to the consumables inside it. The easiest way to deal with the cartridges, which is equipped with laser printers, because they are one whole box with a gripping handle.

    So, to answer the question of how to remove the cartridge from the printer, you should pull it by the handle. The direction will depend on the rails on the sides of the printer body. It should be removed carefully without any additional effort. Otherwise, if you pull it out in the wrong direction, you may break not only this consumable, but the device itself. In addition, it’s not a secret for anyone that plastic is quite fragile.

    Replacing the laser cartridge

    To remove the laser cartridge, you need to open the printer cover. Under the cover, on the left you will see a hole in which the lever is located. You need to click on it, then spin the drum. Insert new toner into the empty space.

    When you lift the cover, the print cartridge cradle automatically extends. Each paint reservoir has a lock on the side. If you need to get out the cartridge, pulls the latch. To install new toner, just insert it into an empty slot, the latch should click.
    Attention, the cartridge must be unpacked before you want to install it. Otherwise, after unpacking for a long time, and not using it, it will lose its resource. Placement of the cartridge in the drum should occur immediately when you remove the protective cover. Avoid touching shaded parts as this may affect print quality.

    Replacing an ink cartridge

    Then lift the cover of the scanning device and secure it with the special stop. Then open the paper receiving tray.

    After that, you will find a compartment with cartridges. They can move while opening the lid. Wait for the cartridges to stop, but under no circumstances try to brake or hold the latch yourself, otherwise you may damage the printer. Also, try NOT to touch the printhead, otherwise you will have to seek help from the wizard.

    In most printer models, ink cartridges are in a special fixing box that closes at the top. Open it and, slightly pressed on the front part, lower the cartridge down and pull it out of the compartment. In the same way, if required, remove other cartridges. By the way, it is best to replace all the ink blocks at once, after which it will be necessary to align the printheads.

    How to install the cartridge back?

    The installation of the cartridge is carried out in the reverse order. Replacing the color cartridge is similar. After completing the installation of new cartridges, close the printer cover and run a test page. When it successfully prints, the replacement of cartridges can be considered complete.

    To refill the cartridge, we need the following tools:
    1. Phillips screwdriver;
    2. Nippers;
    3. Homemade awl;
    4. Paper or newspaper;
    5. Funnel nozzle;
    6. Toner.

    Homemade awl. Can be made from a regular awl, bending the tip 40 degrees. It will come in handy in those stages when the cartridge pins will be pulled out. It is used both for refilling the HP 1010 cartridge, and for refilling the second models of cartridges, where you have to pull out the pins. Therefore, we recommend acquiring these devices.

    The cartridge Q2612A will be refilled. For a detailed view of the cartridge, you can name it by the picture.

    The spring is removed first. Next, the protective shutter of the drum is pulled back, we hook it up with something, for example, a scraper or an awl, and then remove the spring. It is desirable to remember how she stood. If inserted incorrectly, it will start to rub against the drum unit.

    As in the picture, two screws are unscrewed that secure the drum cover.

    Remove the cover.

    Then we take out the drum, lifting it by the gears.

    With the help of an awl or a second grip, we pull out the loading roller, hooking it onto the metal here.

    The picture shows a hole inside the cartridge, a pin is pushed out through it, which holds the halves of the case together.

    This illustration shows the hole on the other side of the cartridge.

    An awl is inserted into the hole and the pin is pushed out.

    A similar procedure is performed on the other side of the cartridge. Be careful when rotating the cartridge; waste remains in the cartridge that could spill toner.

    Outside the cartridge, we hook the platypus (with pliers) pins, we take it out.

    We carry out similar actions on the other side. The cartridge is now disassembled into two halves.

    Take the waste toner half. Let’s consider several options. The drum shutter is removed, the screws are unscrewed, and the working off is shaken out, after which it is imperative to vacuum it. The second option is to gently vacuum through the gap between the squeegee and the toner collection. And the easiest option is to just shake out the mining.
