Scan2PDF. a quick way to scan multiple pages and save them as PDF
Recently, scanners have begun to appear more and more often, which not only do not have their own software for scanning (they install only the driver, and to work you need to use the standard Windows software), but also the physical button “Scan” on the body. This can make it very difficult to work with the scanner if you need to scan several documents at once.
Tip: If you do not have a scanner, you can use a digital camera or mobile phone for this. For the latter, there are special programs that transform photographed documents into a PDF file. You can learn more about this about Honor in the article “How to use a smartphone instead of a document scanner”.
If you need to scan, for example, a contract or any other document consisting of several pages, then in this case, scanning turns into a living hell. Not only do you need to start scanning each time through “Start”. “Devices and Printers”, but also for each individual page to set the same settings, which is especially inconvenient. But everything would be so terrible if not for the free Scan2PDF application, which does two useful things at once.
In addition to a convenient one-click scanning method without unnecessary queries, Scan2PDF can save all received images into one PDF document. In fact, you will get one book file with the necessary document or several documents, which are much easier to send by e-mail or put on the site.
When saving a scanned image in JPG, a very impressive file is obtained, which can be problematic or simply inconvenient to transfer without compression and processing. And if there are many such files, then the task becomes even more complicated. When creating a PDF, everything is much simpler, since a single document is formed that contains all the materials and does not take up much space. It can be quickly transferred over the network.
For example, I recently scanned two documents, each with one page. In JPG format, I got two files, each of which is 2.5MB. Yes, you could change the settings or process the files in the editor and get about 150Kb per file. But this is difficult and often inconvenient. In the case when I scanned using the Scan2PDF program, I received one PDF with a total size of only 340Kb.
On the whole, Scan2PDF is a very useful tool. Especially for those users who have to scan documents on several pages from time to time. Of the obvious shortcomings, I would note the absence of the Russian language in the interface during installation, although the Russian language itself is supported. It can be easily activated: go to the Options and select Russia in the Language block.
Another drawback of the utility is the inability to work with several documents in PDF at once. Only one document can be scanned and saved. If you need to save scanned copies in several files, then the paper must be divided into stacks and scanned in parts, saving each.
A small but feature-rich printing automation application that supports about 50 text and image formats. Among the supported files there is also PDF, so Print Conductor is perfect for solving our problem today.
How to scan and convert to PDF
- Open the program and click on the large button with the double file icon and an arrow to load the desired document into the print queue.
The “Explorer” window will open, in which you need to go to the folder with the document intended for printing. Having done this, select the file with a mouse click and click “Open”.
When the document is added to the program, select your printer from the “Select Printer” drop-down menu.
If necessary, you can customize printing (page range, color scheme, orientation and much more). for this, use the blue button with the equalizer icon. Press the green button with the image of the printer to start printing.
Print Conductor is also simple and straightforward, but the program has a drawback: the free version, in addition to the documents selected by the user, also prints a report on the work done.
Printing PDF documents
The print function is present in most PDF viewers. In addition to them, you can use applications that are print assistants.
How to print a PDF document
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
Among the features of the free program for viewing PDF, there is also the function of printing the viewed document. To use it, do the following:
- Run the program and open the PDF you want to print. To do this, use the menu items “File”. “Open”. Find the folder with the required document in the “Explorer”, go to it, select the target file and click “Open”.
Next, find the button with the image of the printer on the toolbar and click on it.
As you can see, nothing complicated. Despite the simplicity and convenience of the process, some documents, especially those protected by Adobe DRM, cannot be sent to print in this way.
As a result, we note that the options for printing PDF documents are not limited to the programs mentioned above: similar functionality is present in many other software that can work with this format.
Summing up, we can safely say that Panasonic has brought to the market an interesting product with an excellent price / quality ratio. The device is very compact, very simple and, most importantly, extremely affordable. The MFP is excellent for the role of a home generalist, and in this capacity will cause a reasonable interest. As I said, the KX-MB1500 is more correct to consider for work at home or in a small office. The lack of a network interface significantly limits the multi-user functions of the printer and scanner, which can affect the work of offices with intensive document flow.
The MFP has enough positive points to which a potential buyer should pay attention. these are compactness, good equipment, quick warm-up and quick start, quiet and rather Smart scanner, high print quality, ease of learning and operation. From what is somewhat confusing, perhaps, only the large, overloaded control panel. Its design gives the device an uncompromising office look and impacts the overall experience. At the time of this writing, the Panasonic KX-MB1500 could be purchased for less than 4,000 rubles, and for a laser multifunctional device, this price is very tempting.
bought a 3in1 mfp today, installed everything you need
the problem is this. the scanner refuses to work, “PC fault / busy” comes out, after each shutdown
only reinstalling firewood from the supplied disk helps. but every time distilling firewood is not an option either

The device is ready for operation within 10 seconds after switching on.
Since the KX-MB1500 does not have expansion components (card reader, flash drive slot, Wi-Fi module), its autonomous capabilities are limited by the copy function. But the MFP does this very well.
Copied text documents are of high quality and are difficult to distinguish from the originals. Documents with graphic elements also do not cause any difficulties for the device, but they look somewhat simpler (rougher). The copier has three copy modes “Text”, “Photo” and “Text / Photo”. Having experimented with them, we can say that the modes fit their description. However, sometimes it is necessary to reduce the contrast of the copy to avoid flooding the picture. In Photo mode, it takes 23 seconds for the device to make the first copy. Affected by the high scanning resolution. With the settings “Text” and “Text / Photo” the same operation takes only 10 seconds.
The Panasonic KX-MB1500 MFP is equipped with a full color CIS flatbed scanner with an optical resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi. (software interpolation resolution can be up to 19200 dpi). But here you need to understand that the interpolated image is a programmatically recalculated image, which is based on the original with the maximum optical resolution. Therefore, the scan speed in 1200 dpi mode will not differ from the scan speed in high resolution modes.
|1 min 46 sec|
The scanner is very quiet and pretty nimble. You can work with it through a computer and directly from the control panel. There are four scanning modes in the MFP menu: “View”, “File”, “E-mail” and “OPC”.
Work with documents is carried out according to the scanning modes. Scan Mode Preview. opens the document in the Preview window of Multi-Function Station. The “File” mode allows you to save the document in the “Panasonic Scan Files” folder, which was created during the installation of the device. In the “E-mail” mode, the mail client will automatically start, and the scanned document will be attached to a new message. The “OPC” mode will launch the character recognition program (software is not included in the package). The KX-MB1500 also allows you to scan multi-page documents and combine them into one file. To do this, you must select TIFF or PDF as the format of the final file.
Panasonic KX-MB1500 is based on a laser printer with a maximum print resolution of 600 × 600 dpi. The printer warms up very quickly and takes only 10 seconds to exit the first sheet. The MFP is equipped with a fairly large built-in feed tray that can hold 150 sheets of 80 g / m² paper. Above it is a single sheet-load out-of-order tray with media size guides for convenience.
The printer works with three types of cartridges. The first of them is the starting one. It is not for sale, it only comes with the device. Its capacity is about 500 pages (referring to ISO / IEC 19752). The KX-FAT400A7 (1,800 pages) and KX-FAT410A7 (2,500 pages) are official Panasonic KX-MB1500 toner cartridges recommended by the company for this product. Changing the cartridge is very simple. To do this, you need to flip the front part of the case, and just pull the cartridge itself. The replacement procedure is really very simple and even a child can do it. After installing a new cartridge, the printer needs about 10-15 seconds to be ready for work again.
The speed test (printing an A4 text document with 5% coverage) showed almost complete compliance with the declared speed. 17 pages per minute.
Printing a 30-page test document (with parameters: default margins, text typed in Times New Roman 10 points, headings 12 points) from MS Word 2003 showed an identical result. 17 ppm.
Printing a 20-page, simple PDF document containing small bitmap illustrations in RGB format and 10-point text did not make any changes. Same 17 ppm.
The print quality for a printer that has a maximum resolution of 600 dpi is pretty good. Letters and numbers are crisp and crisp in all Draft and Standard modes. The difference between the results is almost invisible. We read the text up to the fourth point. But upon closer examination, it is still noticeable that the edges of the letters in the “Draft” mode are rougher than in the standard. On their contours, you can notice a slight “ladder”, which adds some negligence to the document, which I noted above with the words “almost invisible”.
Toner Save Mode, which is enabled on the Print Quality tab, noticeably lowers the black density, leaving the same negligence in Draft mode. The text of the document turns dark gray, but we do not see the bitmap image. The printer copes with vector graphics without serious claims. Black density is clearly visible on a density scale from 1 to 100%, gradient streaks are distinct. The printer exhibits excellent, dense black solid area, and the maximum ruling is 100 lpi. For documents with graphic elements of a text editor, such possibilities are enough in abundance.
But the bitmap printing is not the strongest point of the Panasonic KX-MB1500. For text and office graphics of high resolutions and complex aLGorithms of rasterization is not required, but for the transfer of any realistic pictures, the capabilities of this printer are still not enough. As I noted above, speaking about copying, the image is not very expressive (simple) and uneven. On fills and transitions, the density “floats”, creating the effect of stripes. No tricks, such as adding to the main print mode the functions “Print fills” or “Print graphics in black”, the picture does not change, more precisely, these changes are practically invisible during normal viewing. Only a decrease / increase in contrast helps to improve the result. This function, in steps of ± 10 (20 positions), can slightly stretch the image, adding missing details to the “overexposed” or “sagging” fragments.
How to scan with a panasonic kx mb1500 printer
Laser multifunctional devices, once regulars only in offices and offices, somehow quietly and imperceptibly began to appear in our home. These, of course, are not at all those bulky and expensive “monsters”, but devices that inherited their versatility and readiness to solve a lot of diverse tasks.
A separate printer, a separate scanner, or even a fax on the bedside table, and a “braid” of wires to boot. a typical picture of recent times. But everything is changing, thinking about buying a printer for the home, many began to lean in favor of an inexpensive, versatile multifunctional device. The only question is which printing technology to opt for.
Today there are a lot of laser-type budget home devices. Their cost no longer scares, and the compactness of individual models even surprises.
Panasonic has been manufacturing laser printers and MFPs for several years. Nevertheless, speaking of the company’s printing devices, one is more likely to recall the legendary fax machines that print on thermal paper, and meanwhile, its arsenal has interesting and modern solutions.
MFP Panasonic KX-MB1500, which we will consider today, refers to compact type devices, focused on the work of small and medium groups. The design of the MFP is quite simple and unremarkable. A sort of typical office worker, in the best sense of the word. The KX-MB1500 model is the youngest in the line and does not have a built-in fax. The MFP is available in three colors: black, white and combined (white with a black front). The body of the device is made of high-quality plastic, all elements are carefully fitted, and the device itself is a typical candy bar.
The device is made according to the classical scheme, but has one very interesting solution, which made it possible to eliminate the receiving tray. Although it would still be more correct to say, hide and replace it at the same time. The small space under the scanner is used as a receptacle and can be increased in the case of intensive printing. To do this, it is enough to raise the front part of the scanner and fold back the stop. Quite a simple and very convenient solution that made it possible to reduce the height of the device by a couple of centimeters.
Another point to which I would like to draw your attention is the control panel. However, not everything is so simple here. On the one hand, we have before us a large functional panel with a two-line monochrome screen, a convenient navigation unit and a digital programming unit, a sweeping layout of controls with large signatures. Everything is convenient and close at hand, there are some pluses on the face.
But on the other hand, the panel is clearly overloaded and noticeably blocks the capabilities of the MFP itself. So, for example, the digital block located on the right side is actually just an add-on inherited from the model with a fax. KX-MB1520. If you look at the programmable functions of the device, you can see that more than half of the codes describe fax functions. Setting up a printer, scanner or copier is easier and faster to do from a computer or using the “Menu” and “Options” buttons on the panel itself.
According to its capabilities, it would be more correct to consider MFPs for working at home or in a small group, with a small workflow. This is indicated by the lack of network capabilities and the notorious fax, despite a decent monthly load. This means that it would be worth paying more attention to a design that takes into account the mood of the home environment. Its appearance should be more modern, versatile, without obvious hints at the place of its application. Alternatively, removing the digital block, revising the layout of the buttons and the design of the panel, you can get rid of the feeling of an office device. The shape of the body just disposes to this. But as they say, taste and color all have their own special opinions.
Completion and installation
- MFP Panasonic KX-MB1500;
- toner cartridge (starter);
- power cord;
- CD with drivers and necessary software;
- USB cable.
It is very rare to see a USB cable included with a printer. Of course, this is a trifle, but agree, pleasant. Now there is no need to solve this issue on your own, the manufacturer has already taken care of this.
It takes less than 5 minutes to install the KX-MB1500 into the system. The bundled disk contains all the necessary drivers and software for Microsoft Windows: 2000 / XP / Vista / 7. Installation of the device under Windows 7 went quite smoothly and did not reveal any software inconsistencies.
As a toolkit for working with MFPs, we are offered a fairly simple and convenient program Multi-Function Station.
The program window consists of four tabs: Scanning, Remote control, Utilities and Customization.
The “Scanning” tab has five customizable presets for working with the scanner, four of which are available directly from the menu of the device itself. Customizable presets greatly simplify the work with the same type of documents and, importantly, save time, avoiding monotonous repetitive scan setup.
Remote control serves as a software alternative to the digital programming unit of the control panel. In other words, the MFP setup codes can be entered remotely without going to the device.
Through the Utilities tab, you can query the device’s status and assess its readiness for operation, or launch the MFP viewer. This program has a small set of basic functions for editing scanned documents (selection of a scanning area, cropping, rotating, copying, combining several documents into one, etc.).
And the last tab is “Settings”. It opens access to the general settings of the device (with the choice of the path to the recognition program (OPC)), as well as the advanced settings of the scanner (with the choice of the path for saving documents when working with presets).
It is worth noting that Multi-Function Station is easy to learn, easy to use and intuitive even for an untrained person.
For Mac OS X users, things are a little more complicated. You cannot do without visiting the company’s website, since the driver that is missing on the disk will have to be downloaded from there. But that’s not the most unpleasant thing. The fact is that, alas, there is no full support for the KX-MB1500.
Choosing the Mac OS X operating system on the MFP support page, we get to the page of another model range. It can be assumed that this model was simply not included in the list, and the driver present on it is the same for all devices. It happens. But for those who managed to upgrade to Mac OS X Lion (my case), the troubles do not end there.
For this version of the operating system, there is a beta-only driver, which only supports the operation of the MFP printer. Like this. It remains to wait for the final version, promised by the manufacturer in early 2012.
“This software is the Beta version, you must install each driver manually.
Use this software at your own risk.
The formal version for these languages will be released in this site by Jan. 2012 “.
Driver Installation in Windows 10
So, you have downloaded the driver for the MFP from our website. To start the installation, you need to extract the driver. To do this, open the downloaded file and click “Unzip”. The driver will be extracted to the same folder where the archive was downloaded. You can adjust the final destination using the “Browse” button.
After unzipping open the Install file from the newly created folder.
After launching the file, you will be greeted by the main installer window. If you have little experience with similar software, we recommend choosing an easy installation.
The installer will make all the necessary preparations.
We accept the license agreement by clicking “Yes”.
In the connection selection menu, select the “Connect using USB cable” item. At this stage, you do not need to connect anything.
In the next window, you only need to mark a single checkbox and click “Next”.
If you have done everything correctly so far, you will be greeted with the I / O system configuration window. After a short period of time, it will change to the window shown below.
Most likely you will see the Windows Security window. Since the driver does not carry any malicious intent to your computer, we safely ignore all exclamations about security and click “Install”.
To complete the installation, you need to connect your printer to your computer and click “Next”.
A little more time will pass and the driver will be installed. Done, Panasonic KX-MB1500 driver has been installed successfully!
How to save an image to PDF
Similarly, a PDF file is created from a photo or picture. Open a graphic format file (png, jpeg, bmp, gif, tiff, etc.) in any graphic editor.
For this example, I will save a JPEG image to PDF. I opened a photo in the standard Windows Photo Viewer.
In the window that opens, among the list of available printers, you must select a virtual printer and image saving parameters: quality, number of copies, size, etc.
After clicking on the “Print” button, choose a location to save the file, give it a name.
Similarly, you can save a drawing, Word documents, Excel, etc. to PDF.
You can create a PDF e-book from images and documents by combining several separate files into one file.
How to save a PDF document
Now I will show the aLGorithm of actions using the example of the Universal Viewer program, which opens a large number of file formats. An open document can be of any electronic text format (txt, doc, docx, djvu, fb2, etc.).
I opened a file in the “TXT” format in the Universal Viewer (this format can be opened in Notepad, the steps are similar).
Next, in the “File” menu, you need to click on the “Print” item. You can do it differently: printing in applications is carried out using the “hot keys” “Ctrl” “P”.
In the “Print” window that opens, to select print properties, you must select a virtual printer.
To select a suitable printer, you need to click on the daw-shaped icon located opposite the printer’s name. Several options are offered here: Canon physical printer, virtual printer from (in Windows 10) and some other applications. I chose Microsoft Print to PDF virtual printer.
In the “Print” window, you can configure some other print settings: number of pages, number of copies, orientation, size, etc.
In the preview window, if necessary, configure other additional parameters. To start the process of creating a PDF document, click on the “Print” button.
In the Explorer window that opens, assign a name to the document, select a location to save.
This document will be saved on your computer in PDF format.
How to save a website page to PDF
With the help of a browser, the user can easily save a web page in PDF on his computer.
- Launch a browser on your computer.
- Go to the site, open the desired web page.
- In the browser settings, select “Print”.
- In the settings for printing, select the virtual printer. Google Chrome has a built-in virtual printer, so you can choose Save as PDF. It is possible to save the file to Google Drive.
- Click on the “Print” or “Save” button, depending on the selected virtual printer.

In addition, there are browser extensions that save website pages to PDF. To save the website page in a convenient form, without unnecessary elements, use the Print Friendly service.
How to save a file to PDF. 3 ways
Now I will talk about how to save a file as PDF on a computer. Many users are faced with the need to save documents in PDF format.
PDF format is often used for official documents, documentation, instructions, etc. Files in PDF (Portable Document Format) are easily transferred to other devices, as it is a cross-platform electronic document format.
The advantage of this format is that the PDF file looks the same on any device, in any operating system. All you need is a PDF viewer to display the file on your device. Modern browsers support opening PDF files directly in the browser.
PDF documents are created using a virtual printer, so saving the document to PDF is easy. To do this, you need to have a virtual printer on your computer.
After installing a virtual printer, it will be possible to save files and documents in PDF format on the computer, thanks to the print function, which is built into a large number of applications.
To create or save a file in PDF format, follow these steps:
- Open the file or document you want to convert to PDF in a program that can open files of this type.
- Send the file to print.
- Select a virtual printer from the printers suggested by the system.
- Adjust other print settings such as the number of pages stored, print quality, etc.
- Give a name to the file, choose a save location.
- Start the printing process.
- After finishing printing, get a PDF file at the output.
When choosing a printer to print, refer to the name of the printer. For example, physical printers that print the contents of a file on paper have designations starting with the name of the device manufacturer, for example, “HP”, “Canon”, etc. The virtual drive will have a different name (see examples above in the article).
Accordingly, when you select a real physical printer, the document will be printed on paper, and when you select a virtual printer, it will be saved in PDF format. Later, if necessary, the PDF file can also be printed on paper (saved in paper form).
Quite often, government agencies require PDF files to be sent. Keep in mind that the PDF file size can be large, so it makes sense to compress the PDF before sending it by email.
Next, we will look at examples of 3 ways to create a file in PDF format: saving a document, image, site page.
Conclusions of the article
In programs that open files of certain formats, using a virtual printer, you can save documents, files, website pages in PDF format on your computer.
A brochure is a multi-page document with the sheets arranged so that when they are folded in half, the pages are in the correct order. Staple booklets can be designed for duplex printing, where two consecutive pages printed on both sides are folded and stapled at the fold. The first page prints on the same sheet as the last page. The second page prints on the same sheet as the penultimate page, and so on. Each page is automatically centered on the sheet, and large pages are scaled (shrunk) to fit the printable area. As a result, after folding and stapling the sheets, a book with the correct pagination is obtained.
To print brochures, the printer must support automatic or manual duplex printing (printing on both sides of the paper). Manual duplex printing has two distinct steps: front side printing and back side printing. For information on printer support for duplex printing, see your user guide or your printer manufacturer.
Select File Print. then select your printer.
- To print pages from first to last, select All.
- To divide a large booklet into smaller groups, select Pages and specify the page range for the first group. Print each page separately.
To print specific pages on different paper or on a different type of paper, specify them using Sheets From / To. Click the Properties button. select the appropriate paper tray and adjust other settings as needed.
Select additional page processing options. As you set options, the preview image changes accordingly.
Determines which side of the paper is printed on. To automatically print on both sides of the paper, select Both Sides (the printer must support duplex printing). Select Front Side Only to print all pages to be printed on the front side of the paper. After these pages are printed, turn them over, select File Print again, and set to Back Only. Depending on the printer model, you may need to turn the pages over and reverse the pages to print on the reverse side.
If your printer does not support duplex printing, you will need to remove the sheets, rotate or flip them over, and reload them into the printer. The procedure depends on your printer model. You can change the settings in the Printer Properties section of the Print dialog box. For more information, see Duplex Printing.
Automatic page rotation within each sheet
The orientation of each page is determined automatically, adapting to the printable area.
Determines which sheet will be printed first and which will be the last. Acrobat determines which sheets should be printed. For example, if your document is 16 pages long, every fifth sheet will be printed.
If the printer is networked and other users can use it, then to prevent another user from printing their document on your pages before you print the back side, it is recommended to print the back side on paper from a different tray.
Print PDF files from PDF Portfolios
A PDF Portfolio consists of multiple documents combined into one PDF file. Combined PDFs in a Portfolio can be printed separately or all together. Documents are printed in alphabetical order, regardless of the order of the files.
Use Details view to rename a file or change the order of files in a PDF Portfolio. See Working with component files in the PDF Portfolio.
Scan2PDF provides all the tools you need to scan and save pages into a single PDF document. Software supports any device for scanning, no license is required.
After completing the installation process and opening Scan2PDF, for convenience, you can change the interface language to “Russian” through the “Settings” section.
Expand the “Scan” list and go to the “Select Scanner” window.
If the scan is successful, the pages you need will appear in the program window. There are three additional tools for material processing in the “View” menu:
- Page Properties. for editing content, including background and text;
“Images”. to open a window with added scans;
Open the “File” list and select “Save to PDF”.
Select a location on your computer and click the “Save” button.
The finished PDF document automatically includes all added pages.
The program has a high speed of processing files and allows you to create a PDF file from scanned material in a few clicks. However, in some cases, the number of provided tools may not be enough.
Scan to one PDF
Further instructions will allow you to scan several pages of documents into one file using a conventional scanner. The only thing you need is special software that provides the ability not only to scan, but also to save material to a PDF file.
In addition to the program discussed above, you can use RiDoc, a software that provides the ability to merge several scanned pages into one file. We have described in more detail about the features of this software in the corresponding article on the site.
- Following the instructions from the material on the link below, scan the documents by downloading and preparing the pages in the program.
Select the images to be added to the PDF file and on the top toolbar, click on the icon with the caption “Stitching”. If necessary, through the menu of the same name, change the basic parameters of the images.
After that, click the “Save to PDF” button on the same panel or in the “Operations” menu.
In the “Save to file” window, change the automatically assigned name and place a marker next to the item “Save in multipage mode”.
Change the value in the “Save folder” block to specify the appropriate directory. Other parameters can be left in their standard form by clicking the “Ok” button.
If the steps in the instructions were performed correctly, the saved PDF document will automatically open. It will consist of all prepared scans.
The only drawback of the program is the need to purchase a license. However, despite this, you can use the software for a 30-day trial period with access to all tools and without annoying ads.
Scan to one PDF file
You can scan multiple pages of documents in many ways, then save them in various formats for later use. In this article, we will show you how to save scanned material into one PDF file.
The considered programs are very different from each other in terms of functionality, but equally well cope with the task. If you have any questions about this instruction, write them in the comments.

Divides each page into black-and-white, color, and grayscale regions and selects a mode that preserves the appearance while highly compressed for each type of content. Recommended scanning resolution. 300 dots per inch (dpi) for RGB images and images in grayscale; 600 dpi black and white.
Color Scan / Grayscale Scan
When scanning color or grayscale pages, select one of the following options:
Applies JPEG2000 compression to color image content (using this setting is not recommended when creating PDF / A files; use JPEG format instead).
Applies ZIP compression to color image content.
Applies JPEG compression to color image content.
The scanner uses the selected Color / Grayscale or Monochrome. The choice depends on the options specified in the Acrobat Scan dialog box or in the TWAIN scanner interface that opens when you click the Scan button in the Acrobat Scan dialog box. (by default, the scanner application dialog box does not open).
When scanning black and white or monochrome pages, select one of the following options.
JBIG2 (lossless) and JBIG2 (lossy)
Applies the JBIG2 compression method for black and white input pages. Lossless compression is used for high quality settings; low values shrink the text more. Text pages are typically 60% smaller than CCITT Group 4 compressed pages, but the compression process takes longer. Acrobat 5.0 (PDF 1.4) and later compatible.
For compatibility with Acrobat 4.0, use a compression method other than JBIG2.
Applies CCITT Group 4 compression to black and white input page images. This fast, lossless compression method is compatible with Acrobat 3.0 (PDF 1.2) and later.
Adjusting the balance between file size and quality.
Rotates any page that is not perpendicular to the sides of the scan area to vertically align the PDF page. Select On or Off.
Paints near-white areas to white in a color or grayscale input image (but not for black and white images).
For best results, adjust the scanner’s contrast and brightness settings so that text on a scanned normal black and white page is dark gray or black and the background is white. Then, with Off or Low selected, the results will be better. When scanning a white document with a yellow tint or newsprint, select Medium or High to clear the page.
Removes grayscale dots that can reduce the compression ratio of JPEGs. cause moire and make the text difficult to recognize. Suitable for scanning at 200 to 400 dpi of RGB and grayscale images, for Adaptive Compression, and when scanning at 400 to 600 dpi in black and white images. Selecting On (Recommended) applies a filter to scan at 300 dpi (or higher) of RGB and grayscale images. Select Off when scanning a page with no illustrations or filled areas, or when scanning at a resolution higher than the working range.
Makes the text of the scanned PDF file clearer. The default (Low Quality) is suitable for most documents. Increase it if the quality of the printed document is poor and the text is unclear.

Configuring Scanner Preferences (Windows)
Select Tools Create PDF Scanner.
Select presets: Auto detect color model. Black and white document. Color document. Grayscale document or color photograph.
Click the Settings icon next to presets. Depending on the option selected, the Custom Scan or Change Preset Settings for.
To scan multiple files to PDF, select the Prompt to scan another document check box.
Click Save Settings. to save the presets, then click the cross button (X) to close the window.
Scanning from Acrobat accepts images in the 10–3000 dpi range. When you select Searchable Image or ClearScan under PDF Output Style, the output image must be at least 72 dpi. In addition, the resolution of the output image exceeding 600 dpi will be reduced to 600 dpi or less.
Lossless compression can only be performed with monochrome images. To compress the scanned image without loss of quality, select one of the following options in the Optimization Options section of the Optimize Scanned PDF dialog box: CCITT Group 4 or JBIG2 (Lossless) for monochrome images. If this image has been added to the PDF, you can save the file using the Save option; the scanned image remains uncompressed. When saving a PDF using the Save As function, the scanned image may be compressed.
For most pages, scanning in black and white at 300 dpi gives the best conversion results. At a resolution of 150 dpi, the accuracy of optical character recognition decreases slightly and the number of font recognition errors increases; at resolutions of 400 dpi or higher, processing slows down and file sizes with compressed pages increase. If the page contains many unrecognized words or small text (9 points or less), try scanning at a higher resolution. Scan in black and white whenever possible.
If optical character recognition (OCR) is disabled, you can use a resolution in the range of 10. 3000 dpi, the recommended resolution is 72 dpi or higher. Recommended scan resolutions for adaptive compression are 300 dpi for grayscale and RGB images and 600 dpi for black and white images.
Pages scanned in 24-bit color, 300 dpi, 8.5 x 11 inches (21.59 x 27.94 cm) are large (25 MB) images before compression. The system may require 50 MB or more of virtual memory to scan an image. Scanning and processing is typically four times slower at 600 dpi than at 300 dpi.
Avoid adjusting the scanner’s halftone and diffusion blending settings. It can improve the look, but it becomes difficult to recognize the text.
For texts printed on colored paper, it is recommended to increase the brightness and contrast by about 10%. If your scanner provides light filtering, you should suppress the background color using a filter or lamp. Or, if text is not suppressed, try adjusting the contrast and brightness of the scanner to clean up the scanned document.
If your scanner has manual brightness control, adjust it so the characters are legible and well shaped. If symbols are connected, use higher settings (brighter color). If characters are separated, use lower settings (darker color).
