How to use?

When choosing a laser printer, many users are most often looking for models with a low price tag, but at the same time they expect high reliability, high-quality printing and low-cost maintenance, including low costs of consumables. The Pantum P2500W model has just such a set of characteristics that compete well with eminent European and American brands.
In it, the manufacturer places a strong emphasis on the ability to self-refill cartridges at home, as well as on the wireless printing function. The latter can come in handy when quickly printing documents directly from your smartphone. How all this actually works, I will tell you in the review below, but for now, briefly about the filling and capabilities of the device, declared by the manufacturer.
Print speed and quality
The manufacturer claims a very high print speed for a printer of this class. Tests have confirmed this. pages fly out of the printer like a machine gun. True, the output of the first page after sending the document to print turned out to me not in 7.8 seconds, but in 23 seconds. Perhaps the manufacturer has its own method of timing. 20-page text took about 1 minute 10 seconds to print (average 3.5 seconds per page), which is slightly slower than the stated 22 pages per minute.
Printing a photo wirelessly from a smartphone was absolutely no problem and was carried out directly from the Google Photo app. The print time of the picture was about 25 seconds from the moment the print job was sent.
To improve the convenience of wireless printing, the manufacturer offers a special mobile application Pantum Mobile Print Scan, in which the user immediately sees documents of various types and pictures sorted into folders. Adding a printer to the app requires scanning a QR code that can be printed by simply holding down the Wi-Fi button for a long time. An image stuck to the top of the printer or to the outside of the paper output tray does not work. You can also add a printer manually through scanning in the wireless network application.
The quality of document printing in Pantum P2500W turned out to be beyond praise. Text and images are printed clearly, without torn edges, and toner powder is printed tightly and does not crumble. The documents come out clean, without stripes and phantom copies. By default, the density is set to 600 dpi, but in the settings you can also set the value to 1200. At the same time, the visual quality of text and photos does not differ much, although letters and images become slightly darker with denser printing.
It is a pity that the manufacturer did not provide an option for this model with economical printing with a resolution of 300 or even 150 dpi. It would be possible to save a lot on toner. Although, if you go to the “General” tab in the printer properties, click on the “Settings” button at the bottom, then in the window that opens, open the “Layout” tab and click on the “Effect” button at the bottom, a window will open where you can check the ” Saving Toner ”. The font on the printed document will become faded, but the toner may not be wasted.
Appearance and controls
The printer turned out to be surprisingly compact. in terms of area on the table it takes up a little more than an A4 sheet, and its design is well thought out. The only thing that upsets is the rather thin plastic of the case and paper holders. The same applies to the upper tray, the hinges of which are not reinforced in any way, because of which they can easily break. Also, the side guides of the paper feed slot do not work correctly. They have a special lock that can be unlocked by just slightly raising the bar where they are located. Without this trick, it will not work to push them apart.

The starter cartridge is already inserted in the printer (to save space in the box), but there are a few simple preparations to use to use it. First of all, it must be removed from the bowels of the printer, and for this you need to open the top cover, pull out the transport spacer and gently pull up on the cartridge handle. It sits tightly enough in the cradle, so you have to make a certain effort, after which the cartridge will surely slide out along the special slide.
According to the instructions, first of all, you need to pull out the tape located on the side, slightly shake the cartridge horizontally left and right, and then carefully remove the protective paper from the Lenovo drum, being careful not to touch it with your fingers. Then the cartridge can be installed back into the printer.
For a laser printer, the main consumable material, apart from paper, is the toner and the drum cartridge itself. If the latter has a rather large resource, then toner runs out very quickly during intensive printing. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, the cartridge supplied with the printer will last for 1600 pages with a 5% text fill rate (obviously, the toner resource that can be refilled is indicated, how much of the drum unit is indicated). And a monthly printer resource allows you to print up to 15,000 pages.
To find out what resource remains with the cartridge and how many pages have already been printed, you need to wake the printer from sleep mode, for example, by printing one page on it, then insert 5 pages of paper into the tray and hold down the Cancel / Continue button until printing starts. A test page and information on printer yields, cartridge yields and printer network settings will be printed.
The test showed that 318 pages with a single photo and about 40% text fill consumed 29% of the starter cartridge toner, and the total toner yield forecast was 514 pages. When printing documents with less text filling and without images, you can focus on the number of about 600-650 pages (the manufacturer claims a resource of 700 pages).
What to do if you face paper jam (Pantum M6500NW/M6506N/M6506NW/M6600NW)
So that the user does not have to frequently go to the workshops for refilling the cartridge, this model provides for the possibility of self-refilling using a proprietary spare parts kit, which, in addition to a 700-page toner bottle, includes a special chip. It is this element that counts the printed pages with the analysis of the percentage filling, stopping printing at the quantity assigned by the manufacturer. A separate bottle of toner 65 grams costs about 110 rubles (excluding shipping), which, I think, is quite inexpensive.
How the printer works and prints
When you press the power button, the printer takes about 20 seconds to enter the operating mode. The sound of the start-up of the cooling turbine and the operation of the motors is quite quiet and does not hurt your ears. Until the printer is connected to your home Wi-Fi network, the corresponding light on the control panel blinks. When the printer is fully ready for use, only the bottom light blinks.
The capacity of the Passport Tray is 150 sheets. For the sake of experiment, I placed all these sheets in it, and there was still free space up to the stops. Even when the tray is full, pages are picked up by the feed mechanism with confidence, without gaps, which is commendable. But, in duplex printing, when the printed sheets are already curled down, the page capture often does not occur.
Paper exits to the upper double folding tray, but due to the high heating temperature of the sheets, they neither bend or stack evenly, nor do they tend to fall off it, shifted by subsequent output documents. To avoid this, it is best to manually hold the paper in the receiving shelf at least at the beginning of printing.
During printing, the printer itself practically does not heat up, and hot air is blown out from the back. But the paper itself heats up to about 50 degrees during prolonged printing, which raises the suspicion of excessive heating of the laser unit with a large print volume (more than 30 pages). However, the test print of 50 pages of text in a row was successful, which indicates the high reliability of the printer’s cooling system.

In order for the printer to correctly detect the cartridge, it is necessary to replace the cartridges ONLY WITH THE PRINTER ON. The following happens: the printer DISPLAYED the MESSAGE “out of toner” OR “replace the cartridge”. This information is written into the chip of the cartridge and into the memory of the printer.
When you remove the used cartridge, the connection between the cartridge-printer is broken and the printer goes into the cartridge replacement mode; when installing a new cartridge, the printer installs the cartridge. recognizes it, (determines whether the cartridge model corresponds to this printer or not), determines its resource and other data.
All this information is written to the chip and printer memory. After that, the printer is ready to print. If the replacement took place with the printer turned off, then the following occurs:
The printer issued a message “no toner” or “replace the cartridge”. this information is recorded in the cartridge chip and printer memory: the printer turns off and the cartridge changes, but the printer does not know this. it is turned off! “Asleep”. When turned on, the data is verified printer-cartridge.
These data must be consistent with each other. but they don’t match. The printer does not know that the cartridge has been replaced (! It was turned off!), This is a failure for it. glitch, call it what you want, and he tries to restore everything by writing information from his memory to the chip. And a new chip, without printing a piece of paper, becomes already used.
The second way is to “kill the chip”. After installing the cartridge in one printer, rearrange it in another. This is especially true for HP. Under the guise of improving the software, changes are made to the printer-cartridge communication protocol for printers of the same model. Therefore, if information about the installation of the cartridge by one printer was entered into the chip, in another it can already be defined as empty and, again, this information will be written to the chip.
In the future, work may not block, but the cartridge will already be defined as “not an HP product” with all the ensuing consequences and inconveniences.
Therefore, we STRONGLY recommend that YOU pay attention to the section “replacing cartridges” in the user manual for the respective printers.
The chip for the cartridge is a kind of passport. As in the passport of a citizen of Ukraine, it contains variable and unchangeable data. For example, unchangeable: date of birth. date of production, full name the brand of the cartridge; the series and number of the passport. the serial number of the cartridge, here the color calibration data can be compared with the 5th column of the Soviet passport.
And changeable data: place of residence with the date of registration. serial number of the printer, with the date of installation of the cartridge in the printer; pasting photographs with the achievement of a certain age. toner remainder (the remainder of the cartridge life). There are other variable data. the number of pages printed, the date of the last use of the cartridge, the end of the toner reached (in general, I don’t want to compare this). But, the thought is clear?!
And as popular wisdom says: without a piece of paper. you are a stateless person. What is a “person of statelessness”. this person is deprived of the support of the state. So it is in the printer. there is the right chip, there are support programs for post-stabilization and print improvement, and other delights of life. There is no chip or it is not the same. if this is a “democratic” HP, then you can work, but all sorts of harassment is possible. If “totalitarian” Samsung. well, of course.
What are we doing? If HP. we use “democracy” as much as we can (so as not to increase the cost of refueling), while refusing the “benefits of a developed civilization”, for example, from information on toner consumption and supporting programs. What if. for example, Samsung. we fix the passport. chip or issue (put) another.
But getting a passport is not enough. you need to know and be able to use it, for example, not to give it to a drunken janitor or an illiterate policeman. For a start, it’s not a bad idea to find out what they are going to do with him. How many ordeals and suffering people endure because of the errors of the indicated (and not indicated) persons. So it is here. the efficiency of the cartridge depends on the literacy and awareness of the consumer.
The state has a strictly defined procedure for working with documents. And it depends on this order how an individual citizen will enjoy the support of the state. The same is in the printer. the program for replacing the cartridge is strictly defined. And the performance of the cartridge depends on how it is performed.
A bit of theory. The printer does not print, the monitor “has run out of toner. Replace the cartridge. ”Open the cover. the monitor“ open cover ”. We take out the finished cartridge, thus opening the contacts between the cartridge chip and the printer’s contact pad. The printer enters the cartridge replacement mode. Now let’s consider the situation of replacing the cartridge in the turned off printer. The printer is turned off. the aunt of the passport officer is asleep. Quietly, in order not to wake up auntie, we change the cartridge. We turn on the printer. we will be aunt. Every time you turn on. turn off the printer, the cartridge is initialized, so to speak. “passport mode”, where the clicks and their correction takes place. So, they woke up the aunt. she verifies the data. She does not check the unchangeable part. well, she does not guess about our trick, considers us to be literate, able to read manuals and product passports and use what we have read. But in the variable part, she sees a discrepancy with the archived data. But the archives are state documents. And in accordance with them, she makes corrections in her passport. And then you have to prove that the elephant is a non-borer.
P.S. if the chip is defective or from the wrong printer. there will always be an inscription “no cartridge” or “insert a cartridge”. Only “democratic” HP can issue. “not an HP product” and even then not always. If the cartridge is recognized, but says “no toner” or “0% toner replace the cartridge or as described above.” unambiguously, the installation of the cartridge in the turned off printer. But the chip has already been used, and not every chip can be restored.
Features of printing in the autumn-spring period On the street, marvelous weather. “the charm of the eyes”, which are very critical for us. Sudden changes in humidity and temperature lead to poor performance of laser cartridges. We remind you of the observance of the rules for the operation of their printers, especially where it concerns temperature conditions and humidity (this is spelled out in the manuals and passports for the product (imfu printer)).
Some cartridges do not have a chip, therefore, it is possible to track toner consumption in them only conditionally. by the number of printed sheets. In the autumn-spring period, you need to be prepared for possible seasonal problems. These problems recur every year with laser printing. With a decrease in temperature, and as a result, a change in temperature
and humidity in rooms, contributing to the dampness of the paper, the toner consumption during printing increases, and accordingly it takes more work.
In the waste bin, the toner is not evenly located, but is concentrated near the drive. gear wheels and cartridge gears (there is the greatest vibration). Scattering of toner may occur at this location due to accumulation and vibration. It is also possible that a problem such as adhesion of toner on the dispensing blade in a wet environment of the paper may occur. In this case (when toner adheres). there is a suspicion that the toner in the cartridge has already run out.
It should also be borne in mind that the quality of the plastic of a modern cartridge is far from what it was before. The share of recycled plastic in housings has now been increased by the manufacturer to 35-45%. This affects the wear resistance and rigidity of the housing. For the user, this is fraught with the fact that in the conditions of the “autumn-spring syndrome” increases the likelihood of toner spills.
How to deal with it?
First of all, it is necessary to understand that MULTIPLE remanufactured cartridges cannot work as new by definition. Print paper, if possible, should be kept in a separate drawer with a tight-fitting lid to avoid it becoming damp and use only as much as necessary for printing.
The cartridge must be periodically removed from the printer and shaken horizontally in order to distribute the toner evenly throughout the entire volume of the cartridge. With the start of the heating season, these problems will decrease as the humidity in the premises will gradually drop.

When an emergency at work, everything flies up and down: either tea accidentally spills on the keyboard, or you hit the monitor with your elbow threatening it to fall off the table, then the “hungry” printer will stealthily take and “swallow” the annual report at the most inopportune moment. Everything would be fine, only you can hardly explain to the chief and the checking authorities that the technician is to blame for the delay. Is it an excuse that the printer chewed the paper, you, alas, do not know how to pull it out? In this case, it remains only to fix it as soon as possible. And you can do it like this.
8 easy steps to solve the problem
The very first thing is to cancel the printer’s printing. To do this, in the system window, which shows the progress of printing, click the “Cancel printing” or “Cancel”.
If the printing process is not displayed in the form of a special window, it does not matter. In this case, use the Windows settings. To do this, on a PC with Windows 7, click the “Start” button and select the “Devices and Printers” tab:
The system will automatically suggest a list of printers that can be accessed on your computer. Find the desired one and click on its icon with the right mouse button. In the proposed menu, select “Open print queue”:
Next, in the window that opens, we look for the printed document and cancel its printing.
- We turn off the printer. To do this, simply pull the cord out of the network. In principle, you can do without this step, but, as they say, God protects the one who is careful.
- Now you can go on to inspect the paper jam. Depending on the model, the printer cover:
- move it to the side;
- open from the back.
In this case, proceed in the same way as when you insert the cartridge into the printer (new or used after refueling).
- We pull out the cartridge and carefully check the “insides” of the printer for foreign objects. Is there a missing paper clip, a piece of old paper, a splinter from a broken mug that you accidentally dropped on the printer in the morning? If such or similar items are still found, then carefully remove them from the printer using a cotton swab. There is no need to rush. If the printer is “clean”, the better, the less likely that any of the parts has been damaged.
- In principle, half of the work is over. The most important thing remains. to pull out the jammed paper. Depending on where she is stuck and you have to choose a method:
- paper wrinkles occur immediately after the start or in the middle of printing. In this case, the best option is to gently, without unnecessary movements, pull it towards the reverse print. Simply put, where the paper was inserted, we pull from there;
- paper is jammed at the end of printing and some of the printed text has already appeared. If this is your case, then also very carefully and carefully, just like a baby during childbirth, pull the paper towards you from the exit side when printing.

In any case, wherever the paper is jammed, you do not need to push it back. It is unlikely that this will work out.
What if the paper is “accidentally” torn? Cry crocodile tears. It’s a joke, so far nothing really terrible has happened. At least until you got inside the printer with a sharp knife.
In this case, we take tweezers (the one that is stored in a women’s cosmetic bag is quite suitable) and IMPORTANT we wrap it with adhesive tape, duct tape or electrical tape from the sharp end, so that during the “repair” from the “master” it does not turn into a “lomaster”. After that, as carefully as possible, again, without unnecessary jerks, we take out pieces of torn paper. One and all. In principle, it’s okay, really?
- After the heroes of the rescuers have removed the jammed paper, it is best to clean the rollers of the printer. In this case, we take a clean napkin, dip it in clean water (moisten, do not bathe) and gently wipe the rollers. In principle, if the urgency of the repair is off scale, you can skip this stage, but the print quality can be useless.
- It’s almost done. It remains to return the cartridge to your workplace and close the printer cover.
We turn on the printer to the network, load new paper and print the desired document.
