The Printer Does Not Pick Up The Paper What To Do Epson

Paper

The paper itself may also serve as a prerequisite for the problem. For example, its poor quality or inappropriate density. Therefore, the first step is to make sure that you are using plain paper of the same size. Its density should be within 80 g / m². If the device does not capture photographic paper, then, most likely, it is SIMply not adapted for printing on such materials.

Oftentimes, the printer will NOT pick up paper from the tray due to mints, damaged, or torn sheets. Or they are folded unevenly. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to check the paper itself, carefully put it in the feed tray. Naturally, you need to remove all jammed sheets.

Try using a small amount of paper. About 10-20 sheets. Stack them neatly in a stack. You can even knock it on the surface so that the sheets lay tight and even. Then put paper in the feed tray and be sure to slide the paper guide to align the stack of sheets. If nothing has changed and the printer still does not start printing, then proceed to the next step.

The Printer Does Not Pick Up The Paper What To Do Epson

Possible Reasons The Product Won’t Pick Up Paper From the Tray

Today it is extremely difficult to do without printing techniques. And both in the office and at home. However, sometimes printers, MFPs, and other SIMilar devices can malfunction. One of the most common problems associated with paper feed, which the printer does not pick up well or does NOT pick up at all from the tray. What could be the reason for such a malfunction and how to quickly fix it? Let’s look at all this and find the answer to the question: “what if the device does not pick up paper?”.

Something got into the paper tray

Often, the device does not pick up paper for a SIMple reason. a foreign object has entered the tray. This can be a pen cap, pencil, paper clip, sticker, etc. This is especially the case in top-loading printers. Even a small staple bracket can destroy such a printer.

So we recommend that you visually inspect the feed tray and adjacent surfaces to make sure there are no foreign objects. They may be a prerequisite for the printer to stop picking up paper for further printing.

If you find a foreign body deep in the device, you can get it out with tweezers. Does not work? Then try to take the device in your hands, and then gently turn it over and shake it a little. Sometimes it helps, and the foreign object just falls out onto the floor. Just do not shake the printer too long or too hard, as it can easily break it.

To clean the input tray in the laser printer, you will have to pull the cartridge out of the device. Then examine it carefully. After all, it can also contain debris that interferes with the supply of sheets for printing. Then look inside the printing device. Debris in the form of pieces of paper can sink deep enough.

Software glitch

Let’s not forget that a printer is a rather complex technical device with its own control electronics. This means that a failure in the software part may SIMply occur. So try restarting your printer. Also, unplug the device for a while (about 30 seconds). Including, and a separate power supply unit, if available.

If this does not help, then you can resort to resetting the settings. For this:

  • Turn on the printer. Wait for it to be ready for work.
  • Then unplug the power cord. Better to pull it straight out of the connector on the back of the device.
  • If the manufacturer of the printer model is HP, Canon or Brother, then we leave the printer de-energized for 15-20 seconds. Otherwise, you will not be able to reset the settings.
  • Next, connect the power cable. In theory, the device should turn on automatically. If not, then press the corresponding button.
  • Trying to send some text to print. If the paper is still NOT seized, then, most likely, the reason for the printer failure is already more serious.

In addition, software errors are often observed in models with two (or more) trays, of which one is inoperative. Here, a SIMple reset will NOT help. In 90% of cases, they are fixed by reinstalling or updating drivers. Then the paper is picked up from both the upper and lower trays.

Paper feed problems

It also happens that all of the above actions and even replacing or cleaning the rollers do not give any results. The thing is that the paper feed units are worn out. This is often the case with the samsung scx 4200 printer (and other models in this series). For example, over time, the metal bar on the brake pad begins to retreat, a backlash appears in the bushings of the paper pick-up roller, or the tray mounts wear out. In total, a gap of a couple of millimeters is obtained. This is enough for an error to “pop up” on the display or the printer stops picking up paper.

How to deal with such malfunctions? There are several options:

  • Someone changes the tray mounts in places or puts new ones;
  • Others deepen them a little by placing a toothpick or a piece of plastic;
  • If there is no metal bar on the brake pad, then it is replaced with strips of metallized adhesive tape;
  • Metallic tape will also help with any looseness in the bushings. To do this, a couple of skeins of metallized adhesive tape are made around its base (along the movement of the coupling!). Then a little grease is added. The main thing is NOT to overdo it with the amount of scotch tape. Otherwise, during operation, the paper pickup clutch will crack or stop functioning altogether.

By the way, there is one more “sore” in canon printers. The paper sensor is often dirty in them. Its tasks include adjustment and control of the position of the flag, which rises when the sheet passes. Naturally, a jam occurs and subsequent paper feed is no longer possible.

Paper pick rollers

The fact that the machine does not pick up paper for further printing may be due to an internal problem. This is a problem with the pick-up rollers. Most often they just get dirty during operation. Largely due to poor quality paper or ink adhesion.

To clean the rollers you will need:

  • Cotton buds;
  • Clean, lint-free cloth
  • Water (purified, such as distilled).

It is not recommended to use various chemical cleaners and alcohol. But the liquid for cleaning rubber surfaces “Kopikliner” will do just right. If not, then limit yourself to water. Cleaning the rollers is quite SIMple:

  • Unplug the printer from the outlet
  • We wet the rags with water (or a copyliner);
  • We clean the surface of the rollers until dirty spots stop appearing on the fabric;
  • If any part of the rollers is far away, then use cotton swabs.

Try not to get a lot of moisture into the device. For easier cleaning of the rollers, you can loosen the clips slightly. On some models, the rollers are easily removed from the printer. In this case, the procedure will NOT cause any difficulties at all.

In addition, the pick rollers can and will wear out. This is another common reason why the printer stops taking sheets to print. Of course, you can replace them with new ones. However, there are other ways:

  • Move the roller a little, rotate it along its axis so that the more worn rubber surface changes places with the one where the wear is minimal;
  • Remove the roller and wrap its rubber part with electrical tape (just a couple of turns). It is necessary that the diameter increases by only a millimeter. Next, reinstall it. Due to this thickening, you can slightly extend the service life of this part.

True, all these are temporary measures. If you really notice increased wear on the paper feed rollers, then they should be replaced with new ones.

Other reasons

As you already understood, there are a lot of reasons why the printing device stops taking paper for printing. Often, some parts also fail. In the end, only a service center can diagnose the problem and fix it. However, sometimes the reason lies in the little things.

For example, epson does NOT pick up paper even when manual feed is on. Many models from other manufacturers also have this option. By activating it, users SIMply forget about it. What to do? It is enough to find the “print settings” item in the printer menu and select automatic paper feed.

Causes of Paper Pickup Problems for Epson Printers

Many of the problems that cause the printer to fail to pick up paper can be corrected without the need to disassemble the equipment and replace any parts. Before proceeding with more complex manipulations with the printing machine, you should exclude the presence of trivial malfunctions, which include (when printing on SEPARATE sheets):

  • There is a paper jam in the printer. All you need to do is look inside the tray or lift the removable top cover of the device. If wrinkled paper is jammed between the rollers (or anywhere else), remove it and continue printing.
  • The paper guide is not installed correctly. This is usually what causes the paper to jam in the printer. The solution is SIMple. fit the paper guide flush to the width of the paper stack.
  • The wrong paper is loaded in the printer. The surface of the paper sheets can vary in smoothness. If paper with a too smooth surface is loaded into the printer, the pick roller will SIMply slide (rotate) in one place. To find out if the loaded paper type is supported, read the instructions for the printing machines.
  • Too thick paper is loaded in the tray. In this case, the pickup roller will SIMply not be able to unbend to the position that is necessary to activate the rotating mechanism. The solution is to remove excess paper.

Common causes of problems when printing on perforated paper tape:

  • As in the previous case. the printer is jammed or the wrong paper is used, the stack of sheets is too thick.
  • The tape has come off the feed device. This mechanism is responsible for feeding paper into the printer. If the feed pins are NOT inserted into the perforations on one side of the ribbon, paper will not be printed. Here you just need to fix the tape or reinstall it.
  • The paper tape is not positioned correctly. For normal paper movement, it should be aligned with the printer. It should also be no more than 1 meter away from the tray, otherwise the tape will bend. This will make it heavier. the broaching device can damage the perforations or stop rotating.

Paper delight problems may be related to incorrect printer settings. This includes the following problems.

Incorrect printer mode

If the Printing Machine supports printing on both INDIVIDUAL letters and perforated paper tape, it must be switched to the Corresponding Operation Mode. To do this, SIMply switch the lever to the desired position. To work with single sheets, the lever must be set to the “Friction” position, to work with the tape. “Tractor”.

The paper feed roller is dirty

The roller is a rubber piece that fits over the paper feeder. Heavy dirt (ink or other dirt) will make the roller surface extremely smooth. Because of this, the paper may partially enter the printer or NOT be captured by the device at all.

A variety of solutions are used to clean the roller, including regular alcohol. In some cases, you can try to clean the roller without opening the printer (if the design of a particular machine model allows it). To do this, you can use a long, thin object with cotton wool, a sponge, or a small piece of cloth at the end. Cleans the roller at the moment when it is lowered to grip the paper (i.e., the user has to constantly send a document to print). The prepared object should touch the surface of the roller when it rotates. This procedure must be done several times.

If it is impossible to get to the roller, then you cannot do without opening the printer.

“Tractor”.

Epson printer does NOT take paper what to do

Possible causes:. The paper guides are too tight in the paper tray. too thick or too thin paper;. poor paper quality;. dust on the pick-up roller;. worn out gripper roller;. there may be a foreign object or paper remains.

Solution options:. try to print on a different paper;. try with your hand when sending to print whether the roller rotates, if not. contact the SC. wipe or replace the rubber band of the roller. will print on thicker paper (cardboard) and try to push through a foreign object possibly jammed (make an effort when the paper is captured ).

DOES NOT grab the print paper

Start typing and then see that the device does not pick up a sheet of paper? Many people face this problem, but it can be solved quite SIMply. If the printer stopped picking up printer paper, then you’ve come to the right place!

So why does the MFP NOT pick up paper? There can be many reasons for this. The most common of them:

  • The pick roller is worn out;
  • The quality of the paper is poor;
  • The guides are too tight in the media tray;
  • There may be a foreign object or paper debris;
  • Inappropriate paper weight; dirt on the media pickup roller.

What if the device does not pick up paper? Of course, the solutions to the problem depend on the cause. Options for its elimination:

  • Try printing on a different paper;
  • Examine the roller to see if it turns;
  • If the printer is crooked and does not pick up paper well, wipe or replace the roller rubber;
  • Start printing on heavier paper and try to push through any jammed paper that may have been jammed (use force when picking up paper).

Other hardware and technical problems

The normal operation of the paper pick-up mechanism is responsible not only for the feeder, but also for other electromechanical components of the printer. In any of them, a breakdown may occur, for the correction of which deep knowledge of the work of printing techniques is required.

Epson printers are considered one of the most reliable printing machines that do not cause any particular problems to their owners. Foreign object in the paper feed tray, how to identify it and what to do

If a foreign object enters the paper feed tray, the printer will take the paper obliquely, take the paper but do not pull it towards the printheads, or DO NOT pull it at all.

If the symptoms coincide, then you should carefully look into the paper feed tray, probably even with a flashlight, in order to try to find a foreign object that interferes with the free passage of paper.

If you didn’t see anything, then you should take a very thick cardboard, insert it into the printer’s paper feed tray, send a print job and help the printer to tighten this sheet of cardboard by hand. They are afraid not to stand, help the printer to stretch this sheet and perhaps with its help a foreign object will be squeezed out.

But sometimes there are cases when you have to disassemble the printer in order to remove various ropes or heavily stuck objects.

Epson inkjet printer: The main problems of the paper feed mechanism:

  • Most common. a foreign object has entered the paper feed tray
  • Rubber rollers in the paper feed are worn
  • The spring in the separation roller is broken, the printer takes several sheets of paper
  • Other rare and individual problems

Now let’s dwell on each point in more detail.

Epson printer does not pick up paper well, picks up several sheets. Replacing the paper feed rollers in Epson printers

Epson printers, like second-brand printers, have their own characteristics and problems with the paper feed mechanism. In general, the paper feed mechanism in Epson printers is one of the most reliable.

Rubber rollers in the paper feed mechanism are worn out, how to determine this and what to do

The feed rollers are erased if you print a lot on the printer, probably at least 25 thousand prints must be made so that the rubber rollers become unusable. This is a very approximate value, which depends on the printer model, this is the paper on which you print.

The new paper feed rollers are rough, you can feel it well if you feel it with your finger. The erased rollers become smooth and you can also feel this if you slide your finger over the roller (see Fig. 2).

Figure: 2

If the printer begins to feed paper poorly or skip it, then you should wipe the rollers with alcohol or a special liquid for washing THESE rubber bands. Most likely this will help for any long period and you can still print, but you should already be on your guard and be ready to replace the rubber bands.

To wipe the rollers with alcohol, you should be smart. Usually, a napkin is wetted with alcohol, substituted for the paper feed roller and a print job is sent so that the roller will scroll and wipe off into the napkin.

Please Note! Recently, I often meet paper feeding problems due to NOT high-quality photo paper. Rubbing the rollers with rubbing alcohol helps, but not for long.

If you decide to replace the paper feed rollers, it is not worth changing them one at a time, they are replaced in a set. the paper feed roller and the separation roller.

“Tractor”.

      The paper thickness lever is NOT adjusted

      Some Epson printers are equipped with a special lever that adjusts the machine’s printing on sheets of different thicknesses. When using thin sheets, while the lever is set to work with thicker paper, the delight roller will not reach the surface. To set the lever to the desired position, you need to know what type of paper is being used. However, you can try to switch the lever to different positions until the device starts to pick up paper.

      Having problems with the Star receipt printer or ticket printer? Instead, visit one of the following guides:

      My printer is paired with my iPad but won’t print.

      This issue can occur if the printer is disconnected from the iPad or is not enabled in the Printer Setting Utility.

      • In the Settings app on iPad, tap Bluetooth.
      • Check if “TM-m10” or “TM-m30” is listed as a connected device.
      • If the device is not connected, pair it with iPad.

      If the printer is already connected, go to the next step.

    • Check the Printer Setup screen in ShopKeep. To make sure the printer is on.
    • Functional check

      If the Epson Corporation printer does not pick up the paper (as well as the device of any other company), then first of all, you need to find out if the rollers responsible for this action rotate. It is possible that this is the problem. To check it is enough to send any document for printing and listen to the sounds that the device emits. After the rumble of the carriage moving the cartridge, there should be a rumble of the rotating axle.

      You can also see that the platform starts to “feed” sheets. If this happens, everything is fine, there was no software failure, the mechanical parts are intact, the contacts are working. If not, then all Further actions are likely to be meaningless. Regardless of why the device does not pick up paper, Samsung, Canon and other manufacturers advise you to contact a service center, since many modern models can only remove foreign objects.

      What to do if the product does not pick up paper

      It is convenient to have printing equipment at home. But sometimes various troubles happen to it, due to which the device ceases to perform its functions. One of the most common problems is that the device does not pick up paper. What to do in this case and how to find out what the problem is, and not by contacting the service center?

      Roller contamination

      Office equipment is a delicate thing, it is sensitive to various contaminants: dust, toner and ink deposits, etc. It is quite possible that this is why the device does not pick up paper. Xerox, HP and other manufacturers caution that customer self-repair will void your warranty. If its term has passed, and the design of the printer allows you to get to the rollers, then you can clean them yourself. If not, then it is better to take the device to a specialized service center.

      The cleaning procedure is SIMple. You will need a soft rag and cleaning fluid. The latter is sometimes replaced with gasoline for lighters. It is advisable to take a light rag, so it will be easier to control the cleaning process. It should not leave behind a lint, otherwise the whole procedure will lose its meaning. A cloth is moistened with liquid and the rollers are wiped until the last traces of dirt, dust, color scheme disappear. Rags can also be replaced with special wipes. They do NOT leave lint and remove dirt well.

      Trash inside

      One of the most common reasons for refusal to work is getting into the receiving tray of various small and not so objects. This is the reason why the device does not pick up paper, which is typical for top-loading devices. Stationery is especially common near the rollers. Not only a pen or lipstick, but even a small object such as a paper clip or a staple, forgotten on the sheet, can prevent the paper from being caught. Therefore, you need to carefully examine the feed tray. It is likely that the cause of the malfunction is hidden there.

      If a foreign body is found, then you need to try to remove it. There are two options. The first one. with the help of long tweezers, gently picking up the edge. The second is to turn the technique over and shake it lightly. Only this should be done carefully and not for long, since the object may collapse even further or the device will not withstand such treatment.

      Loss of elasticity

      The product will not pick up paper if the rollers are not soft enough. They are made of rubber, and it’s no secret that over time it becomes tough. In this case, you need to act SIMilarly to the previous paragraph, only instead of cleaning liquid, you need to use a restoring liquid. For a while this will bring the printer back to life, but sooner or later you will still have to change the rollers. By the way, there are tools that combine two functions: cleaning and restoring.

      Roller wear

      Perhaps this is the most difficult case, because there is only one 100% effective remedy. replacing aged parts. If for this reason the device does not pick up paper, it is better to have the technician repaired right away. However, if for some reason it is not possible to take the device to a service center and wait until it is repaired, you can try to return it to working condition. There are two options:

      • Roller offset. In some devices, only the part that faces the tray works more. The opposite is practically NOT loaded. As a result, the roller wears out unevenly. Therefore, you can try to turn it over so that the whole and damaged parts are swapped.
      • Increase in diameter. If the roller is evenly worn from all sides, then you will have to remove it from the axis and reverse it with insulating tape or tape. 2-3 turns are enough, no more necessary, because then the diameter will become too large. After such an impromptu repair, the must be put back.

      Both of these methods are not always possible to apply. And even less often they are effective. In addition, over time, thes will still have to be changed. The printer may pick up the paper, but every other time or unevenly. And in a few months it will still fail. Therefore, it is better to immediately replace the worn out parts.
