You need to check if the printer is set by default, if printing is paused, and if offline mode is enabled.
Start Control Panel Hardware and Sound Devices and Printers
Double click on the printer icon. In the window that opens, open the “Printer” menu.
- Set As Default Printer.
Uncheck the boxes (if any):
- Pause Printing;
- Work Offline (Use Printer Offline).
Go to the properties (right-click on the icon, calling the context menu and select “Printer properties”).
On the General tab, click Print Test Page.
If the test page has passed, we print our documents. If not, read on.
Printer does not print. Solution to the problem
The importance and usefulness of the printer can hardly be overestimated. It is a must-have device that is often used both at home and in the office. In this article, we will consider the problem when the printer refuses to print documents, but at the same time you are completely sure that it is working properly.
So, your printer is turned on, charged and properly connected to your computer, but refuses to print. What is the problem?
First, you need to check the activity of several parameters. To do this, open the menu “Control Panel”. “Devices and Printers” and double-click on the name of the printer.
Next, a new window will open, in which open the “Printer” tab and make sure that there are no check marks next to the “Work offline”, “Pause printing” and “Stop print queue” items. If any, they must be removed.
Try to resume printing. If this method did not help to fix the problem, go to the next method.
Try restarting your computer. Oddly enough, but a simple restart can eliminate a lot of problems, including the operability of the printer.
If all of the above measures did not help to fix the problem, you need to go to a more radical method, which involves reinstalling the printer drivers.
For a number of reasons, a system failure could occur on the computer, as a result of which the printer drivers began to work incorrectly.
Before uninstalling the drivers, turn off the printer and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
To remove old drivers, go to “Start”. “Control Panel”. “Devices and Printers”, right-click on the printer and select “Uninstall device”.
Now press the WinR keyboard shortcut on your computer to launch the Run window, and enter the following command without quotation marks “Services.msc” in it. Click OK.
The “Services” window will open, where you need to find the “Print Manager” item, click once with the left mouse button and select “Restart Service”.
Now open the “Run” window again with the WinR buttons and enter the following command without quotes: “printui / s / t2”.
A new window “Properties: print server” will open, in which you need to go to the “Drivers” tab, select the name of the printer and select “Delete”.
The final step of uninstallation is to open the Run (WinR) window again and enter the following command without quotes: “printmanagement.msc”.
The Print Management window opens, on the left side of which expand the Custom Filters folder and then All Drivers. Click on the name of the printer first with the left mouse button to select the device, and then right-click and select “Remove driver package”. If an error occurs, it means that the drivers have already been removed.
In the same way, on the left side of the window, go to the “Print Servers” tab, expand “Printers” and uninstall the printer drivers.
This completes the driver removal process. The final touch will be a computer restart.
Now connect the printer to your computer and wait for the system to automatically install the necessary drivers. If the system itself does not offer to install drivers, you can always download them for free on the official website of the printer manufacturer for your specific model. Done!
Printer does not print. what to do?
- disconnect the power cord and reconnect it;
- reconnect USB cable.
If the USB cable is connected to the connector on the front panel of the system unit, then it would connect it to the rear panel. If you have a laptop, or the USB cable is already connected to the rear panel, then you can connect it to another connector.
Why won’t the printer print? Fast decision
Those who often print something, whether at home or at work, sometimes face a similar problem: you send a file to print. the printer does not seem to respond (or it buzzes for a few seconds and the result is also zero). Since I often have to solve such issues, I will say right away: 90% of cases when the printer does not print are not associated with a breakdown of either the printer or the computer.
In this article, I want to give the most common reasons why the printer refuses to print (such problems are very quickly solved, for an experienced user, it takes 5-10 minutes). By the way, immediately an important note: the article does not deal with cases where the printer, for example, prints a sheet with stripes or prints blank white sheets, etc.
5 most common reasons why a printer won’t print
No matter how funny it sounds, very often the printer does not print due to the fact that they forgot to turn it on (I often see this picture at work: the employee next to whom the printer is standing just forgot to turn it on, and the remaining 5-10 minutes are sorted out what’s the matter.). Usually, when the printer is turned on, it makes a buzzing sound and several LEDs light up on its body.
By the way, sometimes the power cable of the printer can be interrupted. for example, when renovating or moving furniture (very common in offices). Anyway. check that the printer is connected to the network, as well as the computer to which it is connected.
Cause of the wrong printer selected for printing
The fact is that in Windows (at least 7, at least 8) there are several printers: some of them have nothing to do with a real printer. And many users, especially when in a hurry, simply forget to look at which printer they are sending the document to. Therefore, first of all, I recommend that you pay attention to this moment carefully when printing (see Fig. 1).
Cause of crash in Windows, freeze print queue
One of the most common reasons! Quite often, a banal hang of the print queue occurs, especially often such an error can occur when the printer is connected to a local network and several users use it at once.
It also often happens when printing a “damaged” file. To restore the printer to work, you need to cancel and clear the print queue.
To do this, go to the control panel, switch the view mode to “Small icons” and select the “devices and printers” tab (see Fig. 2).
Next, right-click on the printer on which you are sending the document for printing and select “View print queue” from the menu.
In the list of documents to be printed. cancel all documents that will be there (see fig. 4).
After that, in most cases, the printer starts working normally and you can re-send the desired document to print.
Cause of missing or jammed paper
Usually, when paper runs out or is jammed, a Windows warning appears when printing (but sometimes it doesn’t).
Paper jam. a fairly common occurrence, especially in organizations where they save paper: they use sheets that have already been in use, for example, printing information on sheets from the back. Such sheets are most often wrinkled and you cannot put them in an even stack in the device’s receiving tray. from this, the percentage of paper jams is quite high.
Usually, a crumpled sheet is visible in the body of the device and must be carefully removed: just pull the sheet towards you, without jerking.
Important! Some users jerk the jammed sheet away. Because of this, a small piece remains in the device body, which does not allow printing in the future. Because of this, a piece that you can no longer cling to. you have to disassemble the device to the “screws”.
If the jammed sheet is not visible. open the printer cover and remove the cartridge from the printer (see Fig. 5). In a typical design of a conventional laser printer, most often, behind the cartridge, you can see several pairs of rollers through which a sheet of paper passes: if it is jammed. you should see it. It is important to carefully remove it so that no torn pieces remain on the shaft or rollers. Be careful and careful.
Usually problems with the driver begin after: changing the Windows OS (or reinstalling); installing new equipment (which may conflict with the printer); software failure and viruses (which is much less common than the first two reasons).
To get started, I recommend going to the Windows control panel (switch the view to small icons) and open the device manager. In the device manager, you need to open the tab with printers (sometimes called the print queue) and see if there are any red or yellow exclamation marks (indicate problems with the drivers).
And in general, the presence of exclamation marks in the device manager is undesirable. indicates a problem with devices, which, by the way, may also affect the operation of the printer.
If you suspect a driver, I recommend:
Cause there is a problem with the cartridge, such as out of ink (toner)
The last thing I wanted to dwell on in this article. it’s on the cartridge. When ink or toner runs out. the printer either prints blank white sheets (by the way, this is also observed with poor-quality paint or a broken head). or it just doesn’t print at all.
I recommend checking the amount of ink (toner) in the printer. This can be done in the Windows control panel, in the “Devices and Printers” section: by going to the properties of the required equipment (see Fig. 3 of this article).
In some cases, Windows will display incorrect information about the presence of paint, so you should not completely trust it.
When you run out of toner (when dealing with laser printers), one simple piece of advice helps a lot: you need to take out the cartridge and shake it a little. The powder (toner) will be evenly redistributed throughout the cartridge and you will be able to print again (albeit not for a long time). Be careful with this operation. can get dirty with toner.
On this issue, I have everything. I hope that you will quickly resolve your issue with the printer. Good luck!
You need to check that the Print Manager service is working and, if necessary, start it. Open the Control Panel. In the search box (top right), write “services” and select “View local services”.
Search for a service in the control panel (click to enlarge)
In the window that opens, we find the service “Print Manager” (Print Spooler).
In the opened window “Print Spooler Properties” on the “General” tab from the drop-down menu “Startup type” select “Automatic”.
Start the Print Manager service (click to enlarge)
Why does not the printer print from the computer if it is connected
Using a printer, you can output digital information to paper, but quite often it does not work correctly. A problem of this kind can arise with any printer, regardless of the brand and type of printing, therefore all the ways to solve the problem described in the article are relevant for almost any printer model, regardless of what OS the computer is running on.
In most cases, the problems that prevent the computer from detecting the printer are not serious and can be easily solved even by an inexperienced PC user. But if none of the methods helps, then this means that the breakdown is serious, or the printer has its own individual characteristics in operation (such models are extremely rare).
A common cause of printer inoperability is when the USB cable leaves the port. In this case, the computer recognizes the device as not connected. To fix this, you just need to reconnect the printer to your computer. Check the cord for damage. Sometimes it can break. Most often this happens somewhere at the ends of the cable. In this case, the problem can be solved by fixing the breakage points (for example, with electrical tape). If this does not help, then you will have to replace the cable.
Sometimes the printer refuses to print due to improper handling. For example, you put too many sheets in the feed slot and / or wrinkle them badly. For these cases, many models are equipped with special indicators on the case. Try to correctly transfer the sheets to the receiver, and the problem will be solved by itself.
Also, do not forget that the printer may run out of ink. If this is the case, then a special indicator on the case will light up, and when you try to print something, an error window is displayed or the device will work “idle”.
If the proposed options did not help, then there are two aLGorithms for the development of events:
- serious breakdown of the printer, i.e., it will have to be carried for repair or replaced with another device. Fortunately, this is rare.
- a problem with the software component. As a rule, these are out-of-date or remote drivers.
